Shrewsbury Match Exhortations

Didn't Chelsea lose to an MLS XI the other day? Not sure that Di Matteo is going to be sweating massively over it. Disappointing result but August 18th is when it really counts, judge the team then. These games at the moment are all about fitness & trying combinations out, nothing to worry about massively so far.

Pearson has successfully lowered expectation, which IMO is a good achievement.

12 months ago we were going to be "walking the league", I for one am glad that this sentiment has been echoed by few this pre-season. Nigel is building a team to achieve promotion, whether it be this season,or in 2 seasons time, the club is certainly in better shape.

We have a squad which for the large part could be together for the next 5-6 years, but still contains a variety of experience and youth. This also includes the management and even the owners, what people fail to realise is that NP is still inexperienced compared to many, and will continue to improve along with this club.

Getting this club to the Premier League and sustaining ourselves there is not a quick-fix, and NP and i also believe the owners know this. NP is investing in youngsters who clearly have talent. Even though it is widely argued that Steve Walsh is the mastermind behind these signings we must remember it is NP who decided that he would be hired as part of his backroom staff.

NP may have his faults:

- he is still young and naive, most likely the reason for his love with the 4-4-2.

But with all his faults you can argue he has reasons for the decisions he makes. Playing players such as king, gally and wellens along with a 4-4-2 formation has been met by many fans with disgust. But, the last time he was here it was this which our success was built upon.

When NP 'came home' last season it was not clearly as straightforward as people believe. He had a squad full of players he had never met, and did not know. He probably could not communicate with some as easily as previous managers (abe, gelson etc.), and certainly did not know their abilities. He continued to play the likes of king/wellens/gally because at least he understood what he would get out of these players.

This season and for part of last he has clearly made signings to solve these problems. He bought in marshall to help gally, he helped bolstered the midfield to support/replace wellens and king with the likes of drinkwater and james, then replacing howard with futacs.

Yes, some of these players e.g. king and gally have been playing this pre season but that is what happens with a 22-25 man squad, they all need to be fit. So to say NP will pick the same players again is a joke, especially when 22 players have been now given a full 90 minutes each.

All us fans want to win every game, but a loss in pre-season can be a positive. Players need to understand what losing feels like to be determined to win and be successful, i would be much more worried if we had an unbeaten pre-season, because you could guarantee with our luck we would attend the first game of the season under 'delusions of grandeur', and get hopelessly outplayed.

NP is no mug. I for one will be there when we play Peterborough, a game of extreme importance. But what we need to do is show the players how much this club means to us. We cannot just attend games and stand and clap. We need to hear the roar we so often have heard before. For any fans out there thinking of not following our team because of 'Pearson style of play' should not be considered leicester fans. The only style of football fans want is winning football.

We are not as big as we believe we are, if Bolton, Blackburn and Wolves perform to their potential this season, you already have your top three.

Promotion is not essential, but progression is.

Get behind the lads, the management, the owners. Its the only way we will ever achieve anything at this club we love.

I wouldn't class Pearson as a young manager, he's 49 in August. I reckon he's smack bang in the middle of his managerial career

If we won 5-0 the team would be hero's and promotion would be certain. Lose 2-0 and some people sound like were going to be relegation contenders.

Kasper has got to get used to De Laet and Whitbread in front of him also James, Vardy and Futacs need match time to get used to how the team play.

This is what we need:

We spent all of last season waiting to gel. Personally people need to think that it was only our second game of the pre season today and from what the players have said they have been running their bollocks off so are probably a little jaded.

I expect that the proper ball work to start from now and they should be lokking more like a team over the next couple of games. Some people...

Nine out and ten in since the end of last season.

Thanks to those in this thread who have made generous comments about Town today. Nigel Pearson is a Town legend and so I hope you do well under his management. :)

Well you've done a lot more business than I thought you had and more than I would have thought necessary given your promotion. Were the nine out squad players, youngsters or first teamers? Same question for the ten in and are they considerably better than what you already had?

Of the nine, four were released and the other five were offered contracts but all chose to go elsewhere. Two to PNE, one to Swindon, one to Rotherham and the other to Port Vale. Those five were all first team players, keeper, two centre backs, one centre midfield and one striker.

It's a bit of a mixed bag in terms of those who have come in, I'd say Chris Weale is a step up from either of last seasons keepers and we're now stronger in centre midfield than we were at the end of last season with Luke Summerfield and Asa Hall in there alongside Matt Richards who has real quality. Centre backs is a bit of an unknown area but the lad we've brought in on loan from Reading, Michael Hector who played yesterday, is very highly rated and looks a big prospect for the season ahead. Similarly Paul Parry from PNE looks a very good signing. Up front we're still looking one short with only youngsters as back up to the two lads who scored yesterday.

But only on a pay per view basis...............oh the rumours

Is that for his image rights?

Some of the stuff in here is laughable.

But it is a bit concerning that we played awfully too (from what I've heard), the result doesn't bother me.

It's a fitness test I guess, boost the players fitness and then work around the team.

People who actually want Pearson gone because of this are serious jokers and simply cannot be considered serious "fans", I seriously can't understand why some people do it.

Pearson needs to be judged on League performances befor January, if we are in the top 6 in mid-November then we have to stick with Pearson its rong to question him after pre season games because some of the players have only just came back and are not up to fitness or match pace yet. even if we chop and change again doesnt mean anything, we never stick with our managers and its probley about time we did.

I don't want Pearson gone because of this game, I want him gone because this game was a continuation of what has gone beforeand what I believe we'll continue to see. I don't believe that Gallagher, Dyer and Wellens (when fit) will be on the bench.

I didn't want him back and have yet to see anything that would remotely make me consider changing my stance.ike of

Why my having a differing opinion to that held by you makes me less of a 'serious fan' I fail to understand.

My dislike of Pearson's tactics doesn't stop me wanting my team to succeed and I hope I'm proved wrong.

He'll always be appreciated for giving me back my pride in my club, I just don't think he's the right man for the job.

I do agree with you as usual.

I DO NOT want to see a bloody midfield on the opening day comprising King and fookin Gallagher!!!

Gallagher maybe.

But a fit and in form Andy King would be one of the first names on my teamsheet.

Fair enough mate.

I think we done Kingeh to death to be fair

All opinions innit...

It was a friendly. Get over it. I'd be more worried about the 40odd games that actually count towards getting to where we want to be. Pearson is the right man to take us forward.

It's one friendly, our second of pre-season and there's another 3/4 to go, before we even play a single competitive game. How can you possibly say we're still making the same mistakes until you've seen us make them when it matters, I'd much rather we made our mistakes and learned from them now than before it's too late.

I disagree about the team too, whilst I agree even one of Gallagher/Dyer starting would be pretty concerning (let alone both), it's clear we have intentions to get more players in, I expect another 2 signings from us, at least.

I think this post makes what I said about "serious fans" wrong about you in-particular, I just cannot take people seriously as Leicester fans who genuinely base this result as a reason to get rid of him, before we've even really done anything at all, I'm absolutely convinced some people just want us to fail and almost race to see who can criticise the first, it's an absolutely hideous mentality.

I wouldn't want Pearson gone bar an absolutely appallingly bad start, which I'd say the last two seasons which lead to early sackings were.

How can people question NP's managerial ability because they think he's going to play Gally, Wellens and Dyer. First of all we have Ben Marshall who is obviously going to be starting, and he has strengthened CM, plus we've got a lot of the transfer window to go and probably will see another winger come in. Personally I don't think us starting those three would be the end of the world, but still you can't judge Nigel Pearson on a potential mistake he hasn't made yet.

Last year was not an awful start, it was bad enough to justify Sven's sacking, and given the money we spent we should have done better, but it isn't comparable to us under Sousa.
