Milton Keynes Fox Posted 10 August 2012 Posted 10 August 2012 http://www.northstan...252037-Beckford Edit: Beaten Hope so anyway, get him off the wage bill and leaves us with a more sensible number of strikers. Definitely, Waghorn is much better.
Mark_w Posted 10 August 2012 Posted 10 August 2012 Definitely, Waghorn is much better. I didn't say that, but Beckford certainly isn't two or three times better as their reported wages would suggest.
MGLCFC Posted 10 August 2012 Posted 10 August 2012 Don't get me wrong I'm not denying it, I went to Shrewsbury and I'll be going to Sunderland tomorrow, and I accept that he hasn't had an amazing pre-season. But you're judging him on that, a pre-season...? You know when I said I think he's being written off to early, yeah that's what I mean. No Mark, I'm judging him on a combination of things. A very good first season, a decline in seasons 2 and 3 and no evidence in pre-season to suggest that he should be considered before Nugent, Beckford, Vardy, Futacs and Schlupp who have all looked better. However, should he get his chance I sincerely hope he takes it and proves me wrong. He will get my full support as I know he desperately wants to do well.

Sorry it's just that you completely avoided my assessment of the last three seasons because, 'We need to look at the present, pre-season'.
yorkie1999 Posted 10 August 2012 Posted 10 August 2012 Really enjoying yorkie1999's contribution to this thread. Yeah well you try sitting in 35 degrees at 10 at night getting pissed on raki watching a crap animation team trying to act a crap varsion of mama Mia and you'd realise what a load of old bollocks this thread actually is
Guest ttfn Posted 10 August 2012 Posted 10 August 2012 I didn't say that, but Beckford certainly isn't two or three times better as their reported wages would suggest. Waghorn is also 22(?) and Beckford 28. Waghorn's performances for us have been poor since he signed permanently, but I'm far more inclined to give time and the benefit of the doubt to a guy who: A) works hard for the team and creates chances for others B) has the potential to develop Than I am to certain other of our centre forwards, particularly given the comparative goal returns of the two. Yeah well you try sitting in 35 degrees at 10 at night getting pissed on raki watching a crap animation team trying to act a crap varsion of mama Mia and you'd realise what a load of old bollocks this thread actually is .

TrentFox Posted 10 August 2012 Posted 10 August 2012 Fair play to you Mark. You're defence of Waggy is relentless. What is it about the player that makes you believe he's still got a major role to play at City. Most posters seem to think he's very average? Nice post Col. Most "un FT" to seek clarification rather than just lambast a poster for daring to think differently. Top stuff.
5waller5 Posted 10 August 2012 Posted 10 August 2012 First Season - Very good under Pearson. Second Season - Played mainly on the wing or brought on with little time to make an impact. Third Season - Injured practically all season, still managed 2 league goals in his 6 starts which isn't really that bad. Not saying he's deffinetly going to be amazing for us, but I think he's being written off too early and based on two seasons where his chances were limited. Two seasons of abject failure .... he didn't get in the side because he wasn't good enough and everytime i remember him being given a chance he'd come on, and defy all the odds, and actually look less threatening than steve howard. He's shocking. He's had plenty of time to improve and hasn't. Get rid.
5waller5 Posted 10 August 2012 Posted 10 August 2012 hope its BS sell to a rival would be crazy Selling to a rival would be great business - they waste their money, we gain it. We buy a player worth giving a squad number to as he may just be worth a game.

He's shocking. He's had plenty of time to improve and hasn't. Get rid. No misused by Sousa (Played almost soleley on the wing), and not rated by Sven (He got like 5 minutes at the end of each match hardly enough time to make an impact). Then last year he was injured, but still managed a couple of goals in the few games he played, not that bad. It would seem that Foxes Talk's mind has been made up on a player the majority raved about during his loan spell because of one season when he was poorly used and one season where he was injured. It really is dissapointing that our fans are so fickle as to write off a 22 year old because of two seasons which he failed in because he wasn't really given a chance to succeed. But then I guess the same has been done to Andy King by posters on here who have decided he is in fact now rubbish because of one injury hit season. I know that this is how most on Foxes Talk work, and know that I can't say anything that's going to change that but it is dissapointing that talented young players are dissmissed on here and average strikers who are already well into their prime (Yet not even managing double figures in the Championship) are seen as gods who can do no wrong because it's just that Player A/B/C who we don't like didn't offer them enough tap ins. The second Jermain Beckford arrived as a high reputation player who scored goals for massive Leeds in league one, he was always going to be seen as an incredible goalscorer at this level, I believed he would as well but too many refuse to acknowledge that he has not been, some like Babylon and Col City Fan have at least acknowledged it while saying he could still go on to get the goals for us, but others try to cling on to cup goals and hitting the woodwork so that they can paint him as some messiah. While two years out of the limelight because of injury and a lack of oppertunities can turn 'a true Blue Army hero' into a player who is mocked on here because they aren't some 20 goal a season monster, well newsflash neither is Jermain Beckford, whilst I hope he does go on and score freely for us next year, I must admit that the attitude of many on Foxes Talk baffles me at times. If we're stuck in the Championship in two years time you'll soon change your minds, because that's what happens on Foxes Talk, Wellens was brilliant according to Foxes Talk once, now he's a hilarious joke for you to all use as your mid-season scapegoat, Beckford's a hero to you now, like Waggy and Wellens were a few years a go, but I'm sure you'll all change your tune after he has taken £30,000 a week from the club for another two years if we've gone no further, and people wonder why none of our players stick around for any length of time (That Conrad Logan must have something wrong with him).

You may want to use paragraphs to make it easier to read next time. I don't write off Waghorn because anyone else does - I'm sure even you can see that I'm not easily influenced by the majority opinion and don't mind stating mine if it agrees or disagrees with the majority. It's quite simple for me. Yes - I like Beckford. Why?? Because he's a good player. In my eyes he has pace, good skill (sometimes a poor first touch others a decent one), good feet and a good shot. If he hits form he'll be a very important player for us. He excites me to watch and i think he'll score if he gets a chance. Yes - I don't rate Waghorn. Why?? Poor first touch, awful shot, runs around like a headless chicken and doesn't strike me as having a brain. In form he looked dangerous - which was when he was on loan, but don't forget how desperate we were for a striker at the time. He doesn't excite me and i don't think he'll score a goal when he gets a chance. There are 11 available shirts, 2-3 for strikers and I wouldn't waste one on someone that I don't rate. Nor did Sousa, and nor did Sven coincidentally. It doesn't even seem the NP is that keen. I don't care how old they are, i don't care how much they cost, i don't care how much they are paid. I don't care what anyone else's opinion is - this is mine ..... Waghorn is a good sell.
Guest Col city fan Posted 11 August 2012 Posted 11 August 2012 Is this the how to drag something out to silly pages cos there is literally nothing else to talk about thread?
Bilbo Posted 11 August 2012 Posted 11 August 2012 What else do you want to talk about then, we've got a week till the start of the season, we're not going to sign another 30 players This is the TWITTER thread, if you want to discuss BECKFORD do it in the BECKFORD thread.
Fox92 Posted 11 August 2012 Posted 11 August 2012 hope its BS sell to a rival would be crazy I never get these comments... What are we going to do if Brighton are the only club to bid, for example? Hold out for the chance of Juventus or Lincoln bidding? The same with Peltier. Some people said we can't sell to a Championship rival, but Pearson has two options.. Keep a player at the club that won't play yet we're still paying his wages, or accept a bid from the only club bidding (regardless of whether they are a Championship rival or not), get his wages off of the books to free up finances, make a profit on the transfer fee itself and give opportunities to other players.

Debating it is pointless really as there isn't any solid evidence to back up either of these points.
