Dan Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 I've done it a few times. I'd say I feel confident of England getting through about a third of the potential groups I had. Doesn't bode well at all.
The Doctor Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 If you've got some spare time on your hands this might be fun predicting the groups and then 2nd round. http://ultra-zone.net/2014-FIFA-World-Cup-Group-Stage-Draws Germany, USA, Algeria & England. Random scored the groups and England and Algeria got through, Spain and Brazil out in the groups.

ozleicester Posted 28 November 2013 Posted 28 November 2013 Just did the simulator (how good are Groups A & B?!) Group A: Brazil Japan France Italy Group B: Spain Mexico Chile Netherlands Group C: Argentina Australia Ivory Coast Bosnia Group D: Belgium Iran Ecuador Portugal Group E: Germany Costa Rica Algeria Croatia Group F: Switzerland USA Cameroon Russia Group G: Uruguay Honduras Nigeria Greece Group H Colombia South Korea Ghana England Teams in italics are teams I think will go through. Then simulated them through to the group stage and made sure they finished top 2 in their group (Brazil, Spain, Argentina, Belgium, Germany, Russia, Uruguay, England as group winners) Knockout stage: Brazil vs Netherlands Argentina vs Portugal (Messi vs Ronaldo on the world's biggest stage, not planned!!) Germany vs Cameroon Uruguay vs Colombia Spain vs Italy Belgium vs Australia Russia vs Croatia England vs Greece teams in bold who I think would progress Quarter Finals - bold to progess Brazil vs Argentina Germany vs Colombia Spain vs Belgium Croatia vs England Semi-Finals Brazil vs Germany Spain vs England Final - winner in bold: Brazil vs Spain Obviously it all depends on who will be drawn against each other in the groups. But the final winner remained the same for me. Would take this in a flash. The Aussies would knock over Belgium then get annihilated by Spain, however they would kick lumps out of them in the process, leaving Spain with a 2nd eleven to be beaten by England in the Semis. this of course would lead to a Brazil - England final, which we would lose on penalties

StanSP Posted 28 November 2013 Posted 28 November 2013 I might do the simulator again tonight and see how different it is!

Guest MattP Posted 30 November 2013 Posted 30 November 2013 Article here on the rankings. Because you lose points for playing (even beating) low ranked opposition, had Holland not played a friendly against Indonesia in 2010, they would have taken he eighth seed instead of Switzerland. Got to give it to Sepp, he must have had every maths whizz in Luzern working on that. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-25134584 Chile would be ranked eight as well had friendlues been discarded and it been on competitive games.
Guest Posted 3 December 2013 Posted 3 December 2013 As much as I wanted France knocked out I have to admit that they ran rings around Ukraine. I don't know if it was due to the poor pitch or just a terrible mindset but Ukraine never played in their little triangles, they never even played positively. Maybe the ref was a little influenced by the crowd too but The French team have been playing a get in your face defensive game alongside an incredibly positive attacking offense. If only their strikers could score they'd be knocking in 6 or 7 a game. The two midfield changes for the second leg were fantastic, Cobaye and Valbeuna were exceptional but I'm sure their lower center of gravity on an atrocious pitch helped. Now I've got to hope that England knock them out of the finals.
Super_horns Posted 3 December 2013 Posted 3 December 2013 Pots are confirmed (well sort of) Might be a change or two to the "pots" in due course. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/25206040
MC Prussian Posted 4 December 2013 Posted 4 December 2013 If you've got some spare time on your hands this might be fun predicting the groups and then 2nd round. http://ultra-zone.net/2014-FIFA-World-Cup-Group-Stage-Draws Got Chile, Japan and Croatia in our group (B). England would have to face Colombia, Ivory Coast and Iran according to my random draw. Not too shabby, eh?
Lionator Posted 27 December 2013 Posted 27 December 2013 Any tips for late this year yet guys? Brazil will be very hard to stop. They have everything on their side.
Dan Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Brazil will be very hard to stop. They have everything on their side. Except having a worse team than Argentina (IMO) Honestly this Brazil side is one of the poorest I've seen. It's still a strong side but how many of this lot will be mentioned when the Brazil legends are being discussed? I'd hazard a guess of around 0. Maybe Kaka.
