I am Rod Hull Posted 11 September 2012 Posted 11 September 2012 Its a spin-off from ozleicester`s "animal rights" thread. I think I could change my meaty diet to a vegetable one and to prove it I will try to abstain from eating any meat for a week. Does anyone else fancy giving it a go? sign up and put your names down for the trial starting on Monday 17th of this month (I`v put Monday as a start because people might have their Sunday joint already). Recipes from full time veggies will be gratefully received as long as they don`t involve quorn....
Guest MattP Posted 11 September 2012 Posted 11 September 2012 Personally can't think of anything worse but good luck to anyone who goes for it! To balance it out I'll eat twice as much meat on the week it happens.

I love my roast lamb, chicken fajita, bacon butty, liver and onions, etc, etc, but is there a way to enjoy food without meat? I think so.

I think I could do a few days but like you say, missing the Saturday morning breakfast or more importantly the Lamb/Beef joint on the Sunday Roast would kill me.

Guest MattP Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 Surely you could go one weekend without? I could, I can't see it happening though.I'd have to leave the house all day.
21st Century Fox Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 I eat vegetarian every other day, so I think I'll give this a miss Working out with a vegetarian protein source sounds an awful lot of hassle. Good luck to all who attempt it, here's a couple of good vegetarian recipes; http://www.bbcgoodfo.../superveg-pasta http://www.bbcgoodfo...falafel-burgers (I was a vegetarian for 10 years until I was about 15, that was enough for me I think).
FrankieADZ Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 good luck to you. I certainly couldn't do it, partly cause I'm medically not allowed to eat most vegetables......& also the fact I can't not have bacon. lovely bacon
cambridgefox Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 I might give this one a miss,I do have 2 days that I do not eat meat due to my mum feeding the kids ,so I just have baked potatoes on those days, but I love MEAT.
Monk Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 I'm mostly vegetarian, sometimes eat meat at a nice restaurant and certainly not fussy about it, but I don't keep any meat at home. Protein isn't really a problem as most people get much more than they actually need anyway. In the longer run, animal protein is much worse on your kidneys. To be honest, once you have got used to a few replacements it's not so bad. We eat a lot of: Falafel Chick pea currys Mousakkas using quorn mince Bean Chillis Tofu stir frys etc

We eat a lot of: Falafel Chick pea currys Mousakkas using quorn mince Bean Chillis Tofu stir frys etc The only problem being, protein from plant based products doesn't digest as easily, so you have to consume more protein than what a meat eater would. It's fairly easy if you eat eggs, milk, cheese but I know some vegetarians who don't and rarely eat a wide variety of foods that contain protein so they miss out on a lot of amino acids. Most vegetarians are pretty good with their diet but anyone who's starting this should really look at what foods need to be included to meet their needs. Not that I can imagine a great handful on here care too much about their diet anyway .
Dr The Singh Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 I often enjoy veggie food but prefer meats except in the punjab where the veg is so naturally tastey, so the majority in punjab i eat Veg. In the UK Veg taste drab!!

That being said, the highlighted above is a cracking suggestion and is pretty darn tasty (speaking from first hand experience)
Daggers Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 I'm vegetarian, I only eat vegetable and soy protein. And tuna. And bacon.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 Done it for about 9 days a few months back, got a bit boring. There is some good vegetarian dishes out there but i'm a really basic cook and it's a lot easier to cook steak and some salad than it is a stuffed eggplant or similar. Plus i really do love my meat
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 That would please a lot of people Moosey
MooseBreath Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 That would please a lot of people Moosey Being pleased about my death would be unfair on the all the other people whose deaths could have pleased you.
Zingari Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 In the spirit of compromise I think all veggies ought to eat meat for a week . It can't be all one way giving .
Daggers Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 I would rather die. I knew you loved to nosh on a piece of meat but I didn't know how much.
Zingari Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 Will i have to stop putting on preparation H if I agree to this scheme . I just looked at the ingredients and it's got shark's liver in it . Who the fook first thought it was a good idea to put a shark's liver up their arse ?
Captain... Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 My diet is largely pescatarian, the odd bacon/ham sarnie, or curry a month, but other than that mainly fishy fodder. No problems with veggie food, just spice the crap out of it, but it is never quite as filling or satisfying.
MooseBreath Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 Nothing quite as satisfying as being filled by a big chunk of meat
Alexikokopops Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 I went vegan for a month to win a crate of beer and did Ramadan for three days to win two burritos. However, as much as I love food challenges I'm going to give this a miss for two reasons: 1) it's far too easy. Meat is fantastic but so are vegetables. Next 2) I have a system with my housemate where (during the week) she cooks and I wash up because she finishes work a lot earlier than me. I'd have to cook for myself when I got back from work. NO DICE.
