Wasn't there an urban legend that Marc Almond from Soft Cell had his stomach pumped once because it was full of semen. He's the man to get to the bottom of this.

Yes there was.

Apparently.

So, let me get this right, in this thread you can cite any number of homophobic or racist words to your hearts content with impunity?

"Oh yea, we used to say 'haha, who's the little sambo?' Why can't we say sambo now? It's not fair, sambo is a great word"

Get a fvcking grip.

You missed the antisemitism, that deserves a special mention.

i had heard that when I was younger but I think it was bullshit.Good idea if you want to gain weight, think of the calories.

Just looked it up,it was a myth used against about 10 music stars over the years.1 pint and 9 different people.Correct me if I'm wrong but that's......let me do the math.......1 ninth of a pint per person in 1 evening, makes my tea spoon look piss poor.

Best delete the history before the kids get up!

my mate wa round last night and read this and nearly shat himself laughing, and went into the reasons why ,if it was directed at my post it wasn't anti semitism and fondly remembered the coin throwing at school and why he should have had the money,he also went into great detail of why they get the tag of misers due to interest to Christians in the mid ages and they all take the piss themselves for it.He has also told me not to apologise if it was my post you were referring to.

Bender as in all day drinking or gay man ?

I'd hate to say "I'm going on a bender today" and and everyone get the wrong idea about me being a heavy drinker !

As in Gays.

I still use bender to describe drinking sessions that stretch to days.

The same thing has gone round that was the reason for the death of Stephen Gately.

Might not be true but would explain how quickly they got him buried and the lack of reason ever given for a young man dropping dead.

Using Jew as a verb is pretty offensive, hence why you don't tend to hear people say out of their teens. The whole Jewish usury thing is where the majority of historic antisemitism is born from, think Shylock. I remember a good example of the term being casually used in the Conan O'Brien documentary where a kid who can't get a ticket meets him outside a venue and uses the word Jew as a verb to describe his displeasure at ticket prices without realising that Conan O'Brien is half Jewish himself, it's really awkward.

... one of the funniest yet cringe-inducing moments is the exchange between O'Brien and a young Canadian fan who is expressing his disappointment with a venue in rather anti-Semitic terms.

O'Brien seems rather stunned by the remarks, and the kid doesn't seem to understand that using the word "Jew" as a verb is offensive. When O'Brien responds that maybe he should dispense with the anti-Semitic language, the kid answers with "I love Mel Gibson," digging his hole even deeper.

No one's looking for an apology but don't kid yourself that it's not casual antisemitism. There's probably a good reason it's in a thread for words no longer used.

yes , we used to call him the "okey bloke"

Is there any explanation for the term? I tried to look it up and came up with nothing.

it's something to do with an Italian expression ice cream sellers used to use similar to the English " stop me and try me one"

edit ;

just found it

"oh che poco"

"oh che poco"

They were called Hokey-Pokey men because they often shouted “Ecco un poco†in Italian which means when loosely translated, “Here’s a little piece.â€

i'd have thought the "oh che" would be there to tally with okey

that's what it says here but it's only wiki :D

I'll see your Wikipedia and raise you one

Before the invention of ice cream cones, ice cream was often sold wrapped in waxed paper and known as a hokey-pokey (possibly a corruption of the Italian ecco un poco - "here is a little").[2] An Italian ice cream street vendor was called a hokey-pokey man.
