I asked Susan Whelan tonight whether she was able to disclose the answers that the club gave to these 4 questions, but she said it remains confidential. I did try though, sorry!

What a load of utter shit. This is 100% a fan issue and they are talking about it as if they are keeping nuclear weapons secrets stashed away. Did you ask why, CD?

If the FL had wanted it to remain confidential they'd never have made it public they were conducting the survey in the first place. The club are so scared of upsetting the uninformed and ignorant minority who continue to stifle the campaign it's untrue.

Not heard much for a while on this but seems as though the Welsh Assembly are making progress.

Stumbled on this at lunch today from the Westminster debate. Is that Susan Whelan on the left? Had been told by the Club she was there but being honest I never truly believed that she was.

Yes, it is her.

Excellent work Wales.

Politicians from across the spectrum yesterday joined forces at the National Assembly for Wales to back Football Supporters' Federation (FSF) calls for a safe standing pilot. Assembly Members voted 26 to one in favour of the motion with 20 abstentions.

The legislation relating to standing isn't a devolved power, so the Welsh Government is unable to "opt out", but it gives a mandate for supportive politicians to lobby the Sports Minister, Helen Grant MP.

Assembly Members will now deliver an open letter to the Sports Minister urging her to introduce a pilot scheme in Wales and to remove legislation that unfairly stigmatises football fans. Both Cardiff City and Swansea City support the FSF's Safe Standing Campaign.

The ‘Individual Members Debate’ was being tabled by Assembly Members Andrew RT Davies, Ann Jones, Bethan Jenkins, and Aled Roberts following a visit by the FSF and the Safe Standing Roadshow to The Senedd in June.

Davies, who hosted the recent event, says that the time is right for the UK Government to look at the issues again with a view to amending the legislation to allow for the introduction of a limited trial of safe standing areas.

The motion proposed the National Assembly for Wales:

  • Notes the overwhelming appetite amongst football supporters for the introduction of safe standing facilities;
  • Calls on the Welsh Government to work closely with sport associations and regulatory authorities to promote safe standing at sports stadia in Wales;
  • And calls on the UK Government to consider the introduction of a pilot of safe standing in Wales.

Watching the video now. The first bloke, Mike Hedges, is a fvcking disgrace.

Interesting that the first three people to support it are women. I thought that they would be discriminated against by safe standing...

Celtic say they are extremely disappointed that plans to install safe standing areas at their stadium remain on hold following a meeting of the Safety Advisory Group.

The Scottish champions were hoping to be given the green light to remodel areas of Celtic Park to accommodate spectator standing.

But Wednesday's meeting of the SAG, which was chaired by Glasgow City Council, has passed responsibility over to the Scottish Government although Celtic say the government have told them that such a decision should be made at local council level.

Over the past couple of seasons Celtic have carried out research to help further their proposals to reintroduce spectator-standing which was banned following the Taylor Report which was set up to investigate the Hillsborough tragedy of April 1989 when 96 Liverpool fans died during their FA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest.

A statement from Celtic said: "We do not understand the rationale for today's decision and in an attempt to seek clarity on this matter, we have requested a full written explanation for the judgement made.

"Once this has been received we will be in a position to communicate further with our supporters.

"We are extremely disappointed and concerned that approval could not be given at today's meeting to grant permission to install rail seating at Celtic Park, designed to allow safe standing by supporters.

"The club has provided substantial and detailed information in support of this proposal over the past two-and-a-half years and has made every effort to address comprehensively all issues raised by the SAG.

"Today's decision has been made despite the club also providing the requested additional information from an independent stadium safety expert, Dr Steve Frosdick.

"Surprisingly, we have been informed by SAG that this may be a matter for the Scottish Government, and yet we have previously been told by the Scottish Government that this is a decision which must be taken locally at council level.

"Spectator-safety at Celtic Park is of paramount importance and we believe the proposals we have made would significantly enhance safety at matches.

"This is a vitally important spectator-safety issue. It is also an opportunity for Glasgow and for Scottish football to lead the UK in this area."

Cant believe you found that in the paper. How amateurish they printed it sideways.

But on a serious note. I can only see this being a bad thing. As soon as 1 incident happens the Health and Safety buzzkills of this world will jump straight on it.

Here we go again

Anyway, another misleading headline.

No one is asking for the return of terracing FFS

So what? If it picks up speed and gets implemented then it is a good thing. H&S busybodies can huff and puff all they want, they'll need proof that this 'incident' was serious enought and wouldn't have happened with no standing.

It's safe standing and it's been a thing in Germany for ages now, no 'incidents' as far as I'm aware. Ignorance of the issue is something that will help prevent this from happening and you appear to be one of the contributors to that.

How do newspapers get away with these false headlines.Imagine on the back page saying "Leicester thump Chelsea at the bridge" then reading on to find out we've lost 4-0.Utter morons.

Some folks *really* need to do a bit of reading once in a while.

With some of the hysterical responses folks would think we were calling for stands made of barbed wire to be introduced.

Nice to get it onto the political scene at last which is where we need it to be. Not expecting the Lib Dems to force the issue if they're in a coalition again but this has to be seen as progress.

That's all the other side is really.

Arrogant as it may sound, the opponents of safe standing all seem to have their ideas based on a misunderstanding of what's being proposed. There's no real discussion to be had whenever this topic comes up, it's just a case of explaining why they're wrong.

No need for the reaction regarding kingcarr21 post... I don't think he was criticizing the idea, I just think he meant it would be a bad idea due to the people that overreact health and safety. In that instance, I do agree. You know what these folk are like.

Do take a few minutes to complete this survey if you can. Run by the Conservative Party so it might just get listened to if we're lucky.

People who don't support Safe Standing need not bother.

PS - Seriously though, if you don't think Safe Standing is a good idea have a read through this thread or have a chat with someone about it. I'm convinced pretty much everyone would support Safe Standing it if they fully understood what was being proposed.
