21st Century Fox Posted 24 October 2012 Posted 24 October 2012 So EDL marchers probably actually want to convert to Islam? The KKK had fetishes for Black women? This could get deep. I think it's more to do with denying who you actually are rather than something you want to be. But I'm sure many KKK wouldn't turn down Beyonce or Naomi Campbell. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Burros It's not universal but it happens.
Guest MattP Posted 24 October 2012 Posted 24 October 2012 Hitler was Jewish? And a Homosexual, gypsy, disabled Trade Unionist. The Doctor Posted 25 October 2012 Posted 25 October 2012 Excellent ! Then maybe ...... brewer = 'pint maker'; radiographer = 'failed doctor'; pilot = 'stewardess shagger' ?? I thought that was a psychiatrist.
Vacamion Posted 25 October 2012 Posted 25 October 2012 I thought that was a psychiatrist. Are you a scientologist?
Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 25 October 2012 Author Posted 25 October 2012 Critics be it Art TV Film Food Music etc, those who think they can, hear, see or taste things other mere mortals cannot, thay are of the misguided opinion that their thoughts are far superior to everyone elses.

Captain... Posted 25 October 2012 Posted 25 October 2012 Critics be it Art TV Film Food Music etc, those who think they can, hear, see or taste things other mere mortals cannot, thay are of the misguided opinion that their thoughts are far superior to everyone elses. There is a theory that artists are unable to self criticise or lack empathy in some ways and so are unable to see their work as others do, it is not that they think their work is superior they just believe that it is as important to other people as it is to them. I really should follow this up with a quote from Nietzsche o Freud, but I don't really know any.
Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 25 October 2012 Author Posted 25 October 2012 I can follow up my pretentious critics post with a quote by the great Alan Partridge though, he explains things far better than I can- All this wine nonsense! You get all these wine people, don't you? Wine this, wine that. Let's have a bit of red, let's have a bit of white. Ooh, that's a snazzy bouquet. Oh, this smells of, I don't know, basil. Sometimes you just want to say, sod all this wine, just give me a pint of, mineral water.

flowwolf Posted 25 October 2012 Posted 25 October 2012 No-one should have to go through that, I had to sit in economy on the way back from the US....terrible experience. I always sit in economy even though I can more than afford to go first class every time. the reason is obvious although from a humble background I now move in somewhat higher circles and being in that upper echelon it is easy to forget what life is like at the shit end of the stick. So to keep my feet on the ground every tenth flight I take I buy a first class and a second ( economy class ) ticket, then halfway through the flight I pop down to my economy seat and have a look at what I'm missing. It seems the right thing to do.

I was with you until the last line, then you kinda lost me, but yeah, I never travel anything other than the cheapest, even on expenses, I got laughed at for taking an easyjet flight, but it was more convenient for me than travelling 6 hours earlier with BA. When you have been down at the bottom, you appreciate money a lot more when you have it, and don't spend it frivolously just because you can.

Captain... Posted 25 October 2012 Posted 25 October 2012 Deep words from a guy who has previously admitted that he basically walked into a £100k job without putting any effort in whatsoever Nice to see your paying attention, but I've not always been earning that amount, before that I was living in Spain, spent 2 years teaching English where I earnt probably about £15k in 2 years, then another year earning 1200 euros a month for 8 months, plus a few private classes, not a lot to live off, had to watch what I spent, before that I was on a decent wage, before that I was on fvck all, was unemployed for a while literally having to borrow money to survive. Not denying I'm paid well now, but I don't know if it will last, or whether it will all come crashing down, not going to spend lavishly now just because I can, I drive my parents old car and make sure I am putting enough away for a rainy day.

Fair play, always nice to hear about success. Not saving is one of my regrets, always spent whatever I had. Had a great time but I know I'll look back in the future and think how stupid I was, I once paid $1,500 for a shot of whisky in a very upscale bar. Absolute madness when looking at my financial outlook now.

Absolute madness when looking at my financial outlook now. Don't think for one minute I'm not having a great time, and haven't seen and done a lot more than most,* I just have a good grasp on the value of things, and an openness to roughing it to allow me to do all I want to, example being going to Poland last summer for the euros, stayed in a ropey hostel for about a fiver a night, sharing a dorm yet we met some fantastic people in there got breakfast and airport transfer thrown in. Also had the chance to get more tickets 300 euros for the Spain Ireland match, but we decided against it, if we didn't already have tickets for Spain Croatia, or we were Irish it would have been worth it, but in the end we got smashed on vodka and apple juice instead. *just plain old brag

Captain... Posted 25 October 2012 Posted 25 October 2012 What do you do now Captain if you don't mind me asking? It contracting, so technically self employed, but as I have all expenses covered by the client and have no real overheads, what I get as a daily rate I extrapolate out as a wage, and pro rata, if I work 5 days a week every week of the year it works out as a six figure sum. But I don't, such as at the moment where I am currently on a bit of down time before the next project kicks in.
