marko Posted 7 November 2012 Posted 7 November 2012 This is all getting a bit stupid now. Tottenham have had this chant forever and a day. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20244204 Mods, I'm not sure if this article has been posted in another topic, but please delete if overlooked it.

Voll Blau Posted 7 November 2012 Posted 7 November 2012 Great gesture from the club to stick up for their fans in the way they've worded that statement. They're spot on too, it's all about the intent behind the word. In this case the intent is crystal clear.
Guest Bilo Posted 7 November 2012 Posted 7 November 2012 I love how the Association of Black Lawyers pretend the notion of black people using the N-word to refer to themselves is unthinkable. Clearly they haven't listened to any rap for the past 30 years. It's in no way antisemitism, it's the absolute opposite. The fact they call themselves the Yid Army shows they are not only accepting of their image of having many Jewish fans, but damned proud of it too. What could possibly be wrong with that?

Nail on the head! I wonder if that clown will be going to the police to report members of the music industry?! I somehow doubt it. This clown Peter Herbert is in danger of undoing a lot of hard work that's been done by various bodies over the last 20/30 years to eradicate racism.
Yojoe36 Posted 7 November 2012 Posted 7 November 2012 I sense football chants won't exist in 5 years if the do gooders get their way. All this "abuse" crap is going to go overboard to the point that just signing will be deemed to be causing public distress.

There have been all sorts of abusive songs over the years (this isn't one ofcourse)...are those lawyers going to complain about every club?

I contacted him to ask why he had highlighted and made such a big deal of the Clattenberg incident yet had not really got involved in the Chelsea monkey fan or the ballboy Lee Croft incident. The silence of his response has been deafening.
Corky Posted 7 November 2012 Posted 7 November 2012 Seriously? They use it as a defence tactic to the chants they receive. They are not glorifying anti-semitism.
marko Posted 7 November 2012 Author Posted 7 November 2012 Incredible. No words anymore. Here's some for you - Peter Herbert is a massive f***ing tw@!
Carl the Llama Posted 7 November 2012 Posted 7 November 2012 If the ones that I know are any indication, Jews are the most inwardly racist people I've ever met. I'm always avoiding making any offensive statements only for one of em to crack out a holocaust joke. This obviously doesn't mean it's ok for me to do the same, but if they love making fun of their traditions and their historic 'misfortunes' more power to em. Why should this one guy ruin it for them? Re rappers it's not their use of the n word that annoys me (see above logic), it's the narcissism, misogyny, and the promotion of guns and violence that tends to make up the lyrics that gets me. I still listen to rap (MF Doom, J-5, Luda...) but I remove all the songs that match the previous descriptions whenever shuffle brings them on. Needless to say my rap library has vastly diminished.
21st Century Fox Posted 7 November 2012 Posted 7 November 2012 David Baddiel's original campaign... and a counter-argument.... http://harry-hotspur.com/2011/04/tottenham-hotspur’s-jewish-supporters-why-baddiel-is-wrong/
acooling08 Posted 7 November 2012 Posted 7 November 2012 If we started chanting 'Paki's Paki's' through pride at our high Asian population at games it wouldn't be acceptable. Don't see the difference between the two.
Guest Bilo Posted 7 November 2012 Posted 7 November 2012 If we started chanting 'Paki's Paki's' through pride at our high Asian population at games it wouldn't be acceptable. Don't see the difference between the two. It's very different to that though isn't it? I'm pretty sure we did throw back a bit of P*kis nonsense to a set of fans a few years ago though, might have been Leeds. We went 1-0 up and started singing '1-0 to the Pakistan,' shutting them right up in the process.
21st Century Fox Posted 7 November 2012 Posted 7 November 2012 If we started chanting 'Paki's Paki's' through pride at our high Asian population at games it wouldn't be acceptable. Don't see the difference between the two. Kind of a good point. I think the difference is the time it's taken to reappropriate it and the word in this case though. There's a real split between Jewish people about the offensiveness of the term Yid. Some older people still find it deeply offensive because of the past memories tied to it as an insult, whereas some younger people think less of it (possibly due to the reclaiming it in this way). It's a tough one, it's kind of a shame to sanitise that part of a clubs culture completely, like Ajax did with their Jewish connections.
RonnieTodger Posted 7 November 2012 Posted 7 November 2012 It seems fashionable to make a non-story about "racism" now. Strange how after all these years, it's 2012 that sees the word "yid" make the news.

The exact sentiment of every single one of my spurs supporting mates. We live in a weird ****ing country.
AdamN Posted 8 November 2012 Posted 8 November 2012 This clown Peter Herbert is in danger of undoing a lot of hard work that's been done by various bodies over the last 20/30 years to eradicate racism. Exactly this. Spurs fans chanting about themselves has got absolutely NOTHING to do with any of the reports/cases of racist behaviour in recent months. Absolutely fuck all. I'm sure in his head he thinks that banning this chant is one tick towards completing his Anti-Racism Checklist, but in reality all it'll do is piss Spurs fans off, give ammunition to those who think that every anti-racism measure is "PC gone mad" and alienate the people who'd like to support his overall cause. I, for one, am all for doing everything possible to eradicate racism from football, but I can't help but think that he's just being a fucking moron.
Nick Posted 8 November 2012 Posted 8 November 2012 Be like rugbty maybe? There have been all sorts of abusive songs over the years (this isn't one ofcourse)...are those lawyers going to complain about every club? I heard to the tune of 'she'll be coming round the mountain' last Saturday.... "I'd rather be a Saville than a Saint" Which was uncomfortable in non segregated areas
Manwell Pablo Posted 8 November 2012 Posted 8 November 2012 If we started chanting 'Paki's Paki's' through pride at our high Asian population at games it wouldn't be acceptable. Don't see the difference between the two. Of course you don't You're a moron
Mack Posted 8 November 2012 Posted 8 November 2012 This Black lawyers association has found a highly lucrative new type of work and they are like a dog with 10 dicks. 'Quick! someone said Yid.. Grass' Ca ching........
indierich06 Posted 9 November 2012 Posted 9 November 2012 What does everyone think about this? http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20262698 I personally think it should be stamped out, it's just not acceptable in this day and age really. If there were a team out there calling themselves the 'n****r army' and chanting stuff about that every game, the authorities would come down on them like a ton of bricks. Why is some racism seen as less offensive than others?
