You can't knock Pearson..we are 4th in the league

However, I want to make 4 points:

- King isn't effective in certain games... we need a physically stronger midfield for some games.

- We need another goal-scoring striker - not an all-effort striker, but one scoring goals.

- We don't start away games well.

- If we don't sort these issues out, we wont get top two

IMO.

Col, could you let us know before hand what games King shouldn't play in and when we should play a DM. If you could list out all the teams now that would be great, rather than actually coming on after and constantly pinning a loss on the midfield. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Picking up on a common theme in the match thread, I think it's a bit of a myth that we've been outbattled this season, a lazy conclusion that people when we don't win because Drinkwater and King aren't overly strong, physical players. There's no real evidence this season that we get outbattled.

The early away games against the likes of Blackburn and Wolves we clearly could/should have won and recent games against more physical teams (Bolton, Sheff Wed) we've not really done any differently to the less physical teams (Forest, Watford).

We've created enough chances in pretty much every game this season and how many could you honestly say we've been the worse team due to being outbattled?

Spot on... there are several people who need to pin it on that at all costs to try and prove their own points I'm afraid Fez.

Funny how when we lose, all the haters, doubters and biggest critics come out of their closet, yet when we're on a winning streak, the same negative army remains completely silent.

flowwolf, accessory, I'm talking to you.

Admit it - you're just in for the kicks.

Not great but move on and put it into perspective we are 4th and not in a great run like others around us. However as I mentioned in a post yesterday I do think the lack of quality up front may cost us automatic promotion, and I said may!! due to the money available next season in the premier league this is a massive season to be promoted and I would hate the playoff lottery.

onwards and upwards

If you look back Babs I predicted losses away to both Watford and Leeds. At least I think I did?

Mi memories going..

And I have said when I wouldn't play King.

Millwall away for example.

That's a game I'd rather see Neil Danns in the centre with Drinkwater, than Andy King.

I can understand why you might want a more physical player in there against Millwall, but Neil Danns? Really? He's energetic and dynamic, but he's not really a physical player at all. Couple that with the fact that he's a terrible passer of the ball, he's poor at retaining posession and he's a god awful tackler and you're asking for trouble.

Agreed, Danns is no alternative to King

Oh f.f.s., why the hell did I travel for this one. In a word our performance was woeful. I actually felt embarrassed coming out of the ground, wearing my City shirt. Leeds were poor, but they certainly deserved to win.

Not Danns, he is never coming back.

What about Wellens?

Back again like clockwork, as soon as we lose a game. I'm surprised you weren't jumping for joy as you left Elland Road, you usually like to relish in our defeats.

Genuinely disagree with you. I arrived 15 minutes late due to the M1 pig incident, and yes, for the first 10 minutes we looked disjointed and rather poor. But from the half hour mark we settled, and whilst we never played well, we should have drawn at least. Take out the penalty and the tip over from KP and Leeds barely threatened. Indeed in the second half they were barely in our third of the pitch.

We were average. Not poor, not good. I thought Waggy played well, and if his cross shot had gone in rather than hitting the bar I suspect we would have won. Vardy looks bereft of confidence, and needs a spell on the bench. I didn't really notice Marshall. I suspect for Saturday Konchesky will replace Schlupp, Knoackert will return for Marshall, and Nugent (or Futacs/Schlupp) for Vardy.

Yes it was a very disappointing evening, but there is plenty more to come from our team. If we can keep within 5 points of the top, the decisive period will be late January to early March. If we put together a five or six match winning run then, my guess is we will be automatically promoted

I think we need to buy more and more players until we end up with last season's system of having a million unhappy players fighting for one position. We'll probably be able to keep them happy by paying them all a ridiculous amount of money though.

Yes, because there is no middle ground at all.

The choice is:

A. Sign a million players

B. keep faith with Waghorn (blazes over)

I just wish there was an option;

C. Sign one decent striker, a quality CB, and one midfielder .......

Just a shame we can't consider that option as a possibility.

Well seeing as we don't need a centre back or a midfielder, I wouldn't consider that option.

Thats the thing we need to stay in touch but also start pulling away from midtable. I think December is massive, and if we're in a strong position by the end then we'll do well. Im getting fed up of managers and opposition fans saying how good we are but not translating it into results. NP really has to sort the away form out, we've already lost more away than West Ham did last season

It's a shame that option D isn't possible then!!!!

It is possible, it's also possible as a result of that, that Matt James is unhappy with becoming fourth choice, same with Vardy, same with Sean St. Ledger and they start to cause problems.

We've already got 4 decent strikers, 2 quality CB's (You could argue 3) and a strong midfield, so I don't think option C will help us too much even if all three players have the right attitude and their capture doesn't unsettle other members of the squad.

Well signing a better striker would definitely help us in that scenario.

He said we should sign 'one decent striker', do you not think Nugent, Vardy and Waghorn are decent strikers?

I don't think he's implying we don't have one decent striker, just that we need to sign one.

Sheff weds are rubbish mate. It's not a good example to use.

When we go away to Millwall, for example, I'd not start King. I'd see how the game was going then introduce him if we needed to.

The problem I think we have is I'm not a big fan of James and we don't have a tough midfield. So if we didn't start King, who would we start?

All this talk about Millwall being a good side is rubbish imo. They aren't.. What they are is well organised, physically tough and nasty and have a couple of good strikers.

I don't want to see us completely over run in the middle like we were there last season.

Derby.... I ain't bothered about. I'd be surprised if we don't win convincingly.

If Millwall are a poor side how have they had such a long unbeaten run which we cant manage

I didn't say Millwall are a poor side?

I said I don't think they are a good footballing side.

They are tough, physical and well organised. With a better strike force than many in the division.

That's why they are doing well IMO.

And my point remains. Go there with King and Drinky in a 4-4-2 and I think we'll get turned over.
