Guest Col city fan Posted 27 November 2012 Posted 27 November 2012 What you've described Millwall as would definitely define a good side in this league. I quite rate Jackett and other than their fans I quite like what Millwall are doing - stuck with a manager ages, worked on something for ages and it's finally coming into place. Very similar side to Leeds though, just cannot see us getting anything there, sadly. Sorry Dan, I didn't make miself clear. I don't think Millwall are a good footballing side. I think we are a better team at getting the ball down and playing nice football. But absolutely Millwall are currently playing to their strengths. And I do agree they have consistency and have taken their time. Finally, in Wood, Keogh and Henderson they have a strong strike force in this division. Better than ours I'm afraid.
Legend_in_blue Posted 27 November 2012 Posted 27 November 2012 In terms of footballing sides, you can count them on one hand in this league. It's all about finding a way to break down 11 men behind a ball and/or matching sides that make it an non-footballing exercise.
L4EV Posted 27 November 2012 Posted 27 November 2012 Lets remember Leeds needed a penalty to win the game even with ourselves sounding poor. That speaks volumes, so we shouldn't stick the boot in too much as Elland Road is a tough place to visit on a Tuesday night especially with the whole club buzzing from the good result on Saturday and the take-over situation. We'll bounce back. , We haven't won at ER on a tuesday night in years, except in the league cup
Kitchandro Posted 27 November 2012 Author Posted 27 November 2012 Sheff weds are rubbish mate. It's not a good example to use. When we go away to Millwall, for example, I'd not start King. I'd see how the game was going then introduce him if we needed to. The problem I think we have is I'm not a big fan of James and we don't have a tough midfield. So if we didn't start King, who would we start? All this talk about Millwall being a good side is rubbish imo. They aren't.. What they are is well organised, physically tough and nasty and have a couple of good strikers. I don't want to see us completely over run in the middle like we were there last season. Derby.... I ain't bothered about. I'd be surprised if we don't win convincingly. Leeds aren't exactly riding high either. Huddersfield are a decent side and we bossed them with King and not one of those midfielders you describe. A more physical option would be nice but it's not easy to say which specific games you'd start such a player in with foresight.
Bluetintedspecs Posted 27 November 2012 Posted 27 November 2012 I think it is very sad that a 1-0 defeat and below par performance away to Leeds has created a thread full of vitriol and overreaction again. Yes it is disappointing as a fan when your team loses but FFS get a grip. Defeats are as inevitable in this league as the strange results that happen week in week out, look at tonights for example. We are doing fine and still sit in 4th place, anyone can level criticism or reasons for the defeat using the benefit of hindsight. It's not about the result tonight now it's all about how we respond on Saturday. If NP thinks we need a striker come January I am sure he will conduct this business and be identifying targets now based on the money possibly received from outgoings too! In the meantime he will rightly give the opportunities to our existing strikeforce to form partnerships and deliver!
J.Lisemore Posted 27 November 2012 Posted 27 November 2012 Just got back from the game, basically...both sides were awful (Leeds were probably worse) and 1 kick decided the game. Penalty? I dont know. Oh and by the way 10/10 for Peltier's playacting.
Danno Posted 27 November 2012 Posted 27 November 2012 Not really physical, but when King and Drinkwater are closed down rapidly they struggle massively, happened vs Palace aswell. Think playing 4231 with Knockaert behind the lone striker would create a bit more space for them both..
Benji Posted 27 November 2012 Posted 27 November 2012 Just got back from the game, basically...both sides were awful (Leeds were probably worse) and 1 kick decided the game. Penalty? I dont know. Oh and by the way 10/10 for Peltier's playacting. Was an incredibly poor game. Penalty looked stonewall though, just a silly naive tackle that didn't need making.
sdb Posted 27 November 2012 Posted 27 November 2012 Impressed by Leeds - pressed for 90 mins and didn't let us play. Not sure if long ball was our game plan or that we just reverted to it after a nightmare first 3 mins, but 1st half we were woeful. De Laet commited to a silly challenge in the 1st min which led to the pen, and gave Thomas the confidence to run the show for an hour. Schlupp made a silly foul the next minute. For the rest of the half we were shell-shocked. Only Waghorn and the centre halfs were any good. Dyer did nothing (i'm a fan btw). Seemed to play centrally for most of the game - saving them from our biggest threat and exposing Schlupp. Vardy needs to be benched and to come on only when a game is won to build confidence. Futacs changed the game. I love NP but if he's trying to ship him then I think his judgement is wrong in this case.
sdb Posted 27 November 2012 Posted 27 November 2012 And I agree about DD and King in the more physical matches - they suffered big time, ducking out of so many challenges and basically being given the run around by players no better than them.
Jimmy1992 Posted 27 November 2012 Posted 27 November 2012 Clean sheet means alot for us. Top 3 points. Roll on Huddersfield!!
Nod.E Posted 28 November 2012 Posted 28 November 2012 Not overly concerned in terms of the season, but very, very p*ssed off. I don't get to go to many games so it's extra frustrating to have to watch that. Never have I seen a side start time wasting with 35 minutes to go. Not just that, but unsporting behaviour, and there were no yellows for it and a measly 4 minutes stoppage time? I could not believe it. We had a good 10 minute spell at the start of the second half during which Waggy should have bagged (not slagging off Waghorn, he was one of the brighter sparks and his shot off the bar was a great effort.) If he scores that it's a different game. As it is, he didn't, and fair play to Warnock - he sensed his team were on the ropes and disrupted the play with a couple of subs and had clearly got the message to the ball boys to walk like they'd just been shagged by the biggest b*stard in the stadium when retrieving the ball, and it stopped our rhythm. I thought to myself okay, fair enough, we'll get our chance, but we just didn't. You know when you're on Fifa and the guy isn't a good player but he gets a goal and passes it around the back for the rest of the match? Well it felt exactly like that, and although I didn't leave something in the back of my mind knew we wouldn't score - we never do in such instances. Aside from my frustrations, and on to the players. I don't usually like to criticise individuals for their shortcomings, but here goes: Full backs. Both Schlupp and De Laet were awful today. Not necessarily technically, but mentally terrible. Their decision making was some of the worst I've seen in a long time. De Laet just looks like he plays without thinking sometimes. Just want to give him a smack and tell him to ****ing think about it. As for Schlupp his positional sense was all out tonight. They could have scored a lot of times if they'd have picked out the free winger that he constantly left. In fact if he was better at staying onside he would've had one. As for the penalty it was absolutely senseless. Ridiculous challenge. I like Schlupp but I think it's time we bring Konch back in now. He was looking very sharp before his injury. As for De Laet I'm not sure. He does look good going forward, although when there's no one to get on the end of his crosses that seems somewhat pointless anyway. We have 4 forwards in Nugent, Waghorn, Futacs and Vardy. Are any of those what you might call a poacher? I don't think so. Vardy hasn't looked a convincing finisher, whereas the other three aren't out and out strikers, more your second striker type that are more likely to hold up the play or score goals from in and around the edge of the area. We desperately lack a Mackail-Smith type. However I have to say I was very impressed with Futacs tonight. Looked fairly mobile for the big man that he is and held the ball up exceptionally well, and was unlucky not to score with his effort. I'd start him ahead of Vardy off tonight's evidence. I'm just annoyed because of the 3 games I've been to this season I've managed to fit in both of the games in which we've failed to score! Maybe I should just stay away and leave you lot to it! On the bright side, there is no chance Leeds will finish above us this season. I suppose it's a compliment to our ability that they were time wasting for the majority of the second half off a 1-0 lead at home. Onwards and upwards. Oh, and that cost me in excess of £50. Money well spent
harpendenfox Posted 28 November 2012 Posted 28 November 2012 Grim. Five hour drive from Hertfordshire on account of the M1 pig incident. Missed the first 20 minutes. After 30 minutes there was only one team in it, but it never felt like we would score. Think we missed the Nuge big time. Feel sorry for Vardy who now appears devoid of confidence. Hope Nuge is fit for Saturday. We're fourth, and have the potential to get much better. Oh and my hotel room in Leeds costs less than my ticket. And one or two of our fans are seriously angry people who need to chill a bit if they're to avoid cardiac arrest. There will be better days.......
J.Lisemore Posted 28 November 2012 Posted 28 November 2012 Was an incredibly poor game. Penalty looked stonewall though, just a silly naive tackle that didn't need making. Didn't look a clever challenge really. I actually feel sorry for Schlupp, his positional play is pisspoor but the guy is a striker, he's played left back for 5 minutes. We've got Konchesky on the bench who is arguebly the best left back in the league.
Captain... Posted 28 November 2012 Posted 28 November 2012 What I mean is Leeds had a game plan to stop us playing and it worked. We can be a devastating side going forward but we obviously weren't today. The early goal didn't stop us passing it, Leeds did, and some of our players had off games. But if we hadn't conceded early then they would have had to do more than just stop us playing, and left a few more spaces to exploit.

And many of our other fans. Despite not actually being there, I felt like I could see what I was going on because I was at the Charlton, Wolves and Watford games and it was practically a carbon copy of those, except we didn't score. Feel bad for all of the fans who went especially the people facing an even longer journey afterwards. But they sounded superb at times tonight and it's shit nights like this that can make the away wins even sweeter!
Guy Posted 28 November 2012 Posted 28 November 2012 I'm not trying to be negative but I don't think that is true anymore. Their home form is not very good these days and the ground is half empty. They lost 6-1 there the other week. Yes, indeed. I don't know the precise stats in that game but I think Leeds were down to 9 men v Watford which probably explained away their negative five goals difference! Last season at home though they leaked goals like a tea strainer, seven against Forest, 5 against Blackpool, hell we even won there with the last clumsy kick of last season with that goal from the Greek sounding lad - he who's presumably still about?! My Leeds mate said Tuesday is usually a cursed night for them at Elland Road and meaning certain defeat - so it's doubly disappointing thay they've lain that so called curse to rest against us!

I just cannot see how we will get anything there. It's sad that we can't work our way around any seriously physical side (that isn't a complete joke like Sheff Weds), I actually think we kind of lack a plan B at times. Millwall will be top 8 I reckon. Many wrote them off but they've been progressing quietly for years, I've got a lot of respect for them. In terms of footballing sides, you can count them on one hand in this league. It's all about finding a way to break down 11 men behind a ball and/or matching sides that make it an non-footballing exercise. Very true really. This league's an embarrassment in a way, don't get why everyone is so content with shit football, it's not impossible to play nice football as well as winning. It's a sad state that shit like QPR under Warnock could boss this league.
ozleicester Posted 28 November 2012 Posted 28 November 2012 Disappointing (if unsurprising) result. Leeds are a better side than their table position would suggest and with that cvnt in charge their results will improve. I wouldnt be surprised to see them in the top 8 by seasons end. Elland rd is a shitty place to go at any time and get a result. Based on reading the reports here and online, we werent "bad". Never mind onward and upward, December is a HUGE month for us i can see us picking up 18 points from the 6 games...ahh, nothing wrong with being positive is there?! edit - Just seen the picture special... ... Theyre here...theyre there..theyre everyfvcking where...empty seats..empty seats.... Do Leeds have any fans?
accessory Posted 28 November 2012 Posted 28 November 2012 Warnock did a job on us. Pearson overloaded the side with youngsters and they were found out. We missed Konchesky and Nugent badly. If we play that midfield at Millwall and Hull we will get the same results. King has been a liability for the past three seasons because opposition managers (including Warnock and Jackett) know full well that when the going gets tough, he goes missing. He is not and will never be anything more than an average Championship midfielder. We have to finish in the top 2, because neither this side or this manager has the mental strength to survive the playoffs - especially with the very high stakes this season. Our pitiful away record bears this out. A record of 3 wins out of 10 simply is not acceptable in a league as weak as this. The outcome of the season depends on how much we can keep in touch with the leaders during the next five weeks and then wheel and deal in January. Some more deadwood needs to be cleared and a few older heads need to be brought in.
flowwolf Posted 28 November 2012 Posted 28 November 2012 Two things stood out tonight , Vardy is not going to make it at this level and a top two finish is beyond us because those above us are simply better and more consistant . The play-offs are a more realistic target. Our major let down is our strike force, if Nugent doesn't play you know we will struggle to score. The January transfer window is our only hope of getting in a striker who is better than Vardy or Wagstaff , it should not be that difficult.

indierich06 Posted 28 November 2012 Posted 28 November 2012 Cheer up you miserable sods. We're not going to win every game and Leeds are a decent side - let's not forget, they recently ended Palace's unbeaten run, a side who most on here think are better than us. This was just a bad day at the office - we never really got going, gave away a daft penalty and that just knocked the wind out of us. Plus, while we never looked like scoring, neither did they particularly - one kick decided this game and a draw probably would have been a much fairer result.
