Leeds (A) Post Match

Picking up on a common theme in the match thread, I think it's a bit of a myth that we've been outbattled this season, a lazy conclusion that people when we don't win because Drinkwater and King aren't overly strong, physical players. There's no real evidence this season that we get outbattled.

The early away games against the likes of Blackburn and Wolves we clearly could/should have won and recent games against more physical teams (Bolton, Sheff Wed) we've not really done any differently to the less physical teams (Forest, Watford).

We've created enough chances in pretty much every game this season and how many could you honestly say we've been the worse team due to being outbattled?

Bang on Fez.

We've dominated the midfield in most games this season, we don't need to overhaul because they've been outfought in one or two matches.

Well, we played poorly and lost.

Better than playing well and being robbed.

Need Nugent back ASAP.

No its not.

Much rather we played well and got robbed, not nice or fun, but at least playing well means we are in form and developing an understanding, not playing well requires more questions to be answered.

Who to play up front on Sat, Schlupp or Konchesky at LB, do we need to strengthen the midfield, and bring in a, dare I say it, defensive midfielder, enforcer for these tough physical away games?

If we played well tonight it could be classed as unlucky, but more of the same will bring in results, against Charlton, Wolves, Blackburn, we played well, but didn't get results, we kept at it and went on a 6 match unbeaten run.

Playing well > Playing badly

Losing sucks either way.

You can't knock Pearson..we are 4th in the league

However, I want to make 3 points:

- King isn't effective in certain games... we need a physically stronger midfield for some games.

- We need another goal-scoring striker - not an all-effort striker, but one scoring goals.

- If we don't sort these issues out, we wont get top two

IMO.

Yep agreed, Waghorn and Vardy give 100% that is for sure...but how long do you wait for that to translate into goals?

For me it speaks volumes of the great work the team have done that so many of us are no longer happy to be in the playoffs, but instead expect them to get into the top 2. :chant:

A striker is all we need come on Waghorn couldn't hit a barn door despite the fact he works hard Vardy who knows an experienced player at this level who knows where the back of the net is alongside Nugent wouldn't go amiss.

Myself and Col have said the same thing(EDIT cause I read wrong, cause at times I can be thick)

It's quite simple to see what we are doing wrong, hopefully Pearson can see what we are seeing.

Except Fez has said something completely different to you and Col.

Come January a striker will be top of Pearson's list.

Kingfox likes to associate his opinion with someone who has just made a relatively sensible post, makes him seem smart.

Can't disagree with that Col. I know we scored two on Saturday, but we do miss Nugent, and there were a lot of people around me at Hillsborough highlighting we miss Nugent's movement, which I agree with.

Derby and Barnsley are both winnable, but we shouldn't go into the games thinking we will win. Both will still be tough tests.

But the bigger test comes in the form of Millwall, which makes me revert back to your top point. Our midfield needs to be stronger in the tougher games like Leeds, and Millwall will certainly be a tough/physical match in which we were over-powered last season.

Lets remember Leeds needed a penalty to win the game even with ourselves sounding poor. That speaks volumes, so we shouldn't stick the boot in too much as Elland Road is a tough place to visit on a Tuesday night especially with the whole club buzzing from the good result on Saturday and the take-over situation.

We'll bounce back. :scarf:

Wes will be fired up for Derby hopefully

No offence, and I know where you're coming from because of his Nottingham Forest connections, but all the squad should be fired up for a game like Derby.

Palace was a game we were out battled, no??

Yeah of course mate. Would be fvcking class for him to score in front of the Derby fans.

The sad thing is we've come off the back of two good performances and then we've really not turned up. It sounded like we were beaten tactically, we gave away the early goal and we just didn't seem to have anyone out there who could change the game and take it by the scruff of the neck.

I wouldn't swap our midfield with anyone's in this league on a good day but they will have those games every now and then where they are bullied, this sounded like Wolves away (despite what Fez says above, we were completely outmuscled in the first half at Molineux and we'd lost the game by half time, today sounded similar the whole way through) Its hard to say what the solution is baring in mind they can be so dominant in most games. I just wonder if some of the young players need to 'man up'.

We now need to beat Derby to make sure a gap doesn't open up between us and the top 2, which is quite frustrating because I'm not quite sure why we'd be in that situation, I'm convinced not many of the teams around us are that good.

Every time we lose (and especially when we don't score) it's inevitable people will start talking about strikers. That wasn't necessarily the big problem tonight but it's undoubtedly an issue, and IMO the biggest one in our squad.

I'm not going to lay into Vardy, Futacs and Waghorn like some others have but I struggle to believe that people have every faith in them to score goals, and if they do I don't get where that's coming from. We really should have brought in a striker on loan, I'm not quite sure what the point is in Lingard, we've had a situation tonight where he's come on and Futacs, the big man, has been up front on his own and has been expected to win flick ons and we've not got another striker on the pitch. I cant help but thinking that taking a chance on a young striker on loan, or an out of favour Premiership one, would have been a better gamble.

Somebody said on another thread that we've expected too much of Vardy and I agree with him, he's come from non-league and gone pretty much straight into the first team. He's played well in some games but even though his goals tally isn't appalling he's missed quite a few good chances and to be frank his first touch just isn't up to scratch. We're not going to get hatful of chances in every game, we need someone more clinical. Im aware our goal difference is good but that's neither here nor there when we can all see, if we're honest, that we need better if we're serious about automatic promotion.

Actually I said the exact same thing as Col, before Col.
