UOLOwl Posted 10 December 2012 Posted 10 December 2012 Alright lads, Let me just introduce myself - Sheffield Wednesday fan who goes to Uni of Leicester. You may have heard the Barnsley game was available to UOL students for £5 at the weekend - £5 to watch the promotion favourites at home - definitely something I wasn't going to miss out on! Go to roughly 8-12 SWFC games a season, so have seen my fair share of poor players, and not so many good ones! Let me just start by saying your fans were pretty decent in the second half, loved how you all swung scarves to create the atmosphere. Was disappointed not to hear the Ben Marshall song though, I've been told it's a belter. The first half was a bit flat, but the second half made up for it. Your team started well and I was impressed particularly with Waghorn, I believe, it's a massive shame his stunning lob was deemed offside. How you went into half-time 2-1 down is just astonishing; God knows what Schemeichel was doing for the first, and, the second was just a nice finish. I did feel your centre mids were not controlling the game enough though with Greening and Buzsaky having pretty decent games for Barnsley. The introduction of the tall man (number 29 if I remember correctly) and Marshall (may be a bit biased on that) in the second half pegged Barnsley back and the equaliser was inevitable. Had it come 5-10 minutes earlier you would have won the game. In reflection it probably wasn't a good result, but I saw a lot of quality from your lads for me to think you will certainly be up there come the end of the season. See it as a point gained - after all, it was an 88th minute equaliser! So, stand out players for me were Number 29, Waghorn, Marshall and your number 5 (who looked pretty commanding and controlling at the back - forgot to add that). Thanks for the offer - if it is on again I will certainly be there. You're the team I am rooting for promotion, so, good luck for the season.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 10 December 2012 Posted 10 December 2012 Cheers. Futacs was 29 and wes norgan was number 5
Guest Bilo Posted 10 December 2012 Posted 10 December 2012 Wes Morgan is, for me, the best centre-half in the Championship right now. I certainly can't think of any other defender I'd swap him for.

ozleicester Posted 10 December 2012 Posted 10 December 2012 Cheers, nice to get an independent view of things now and again
Bayfox Posted 10 December 2012 Posted 10 December 2012 As everyone on here is saying the atmosphere was rubbish. Are you deaf? As the ben marshall song was one of 2 that l1 actually do. It was done as soon as his no. Was put up on the board.

But, if I did miss the Marshall song I apologise - I haven't heard it before, so clearly didn't know what to listen out for. Don't be so harsh; I have been to far worse stadiums than the KP and experienced far worse atmospheres. Hell, you only have to be at Hillsborough of late for the best example of that.

We sang it second half when he came on, it went: Woooaaah! Woooaaah! Woooaaah! Na na, na na, na na Ben Marshall! Found it on youtube: Some scamps have likened it to a slave galley song Shame that Hillsborough is being afflicted with the "just like a library" disease as well
Lambert09 Posted 10 December 2012 Posted 10 December 2012 The atmosphere is a lot worse than it used to be, but there are many clubs worse than us, can hardly slate a lad for using kind words for a rival club. It seems most wednesday fans like us, why is this? The pearson factor? Ben Marshall?
harpendenfox Posted 10 December 2012 Posted 10 December 2012 Thanks for taking the time to post that report UOLFox. Good perspective. It may be Bayfox's time of the month perhaps. Hope your team manage to pull out of their nosedive soon, preferably by walloping teams in the top six, aside from your new second team....
Captain... Posted 10 December 2012 Posted 10 December 2012 That is pretty much how I saw the game but I come on here and read the usual negative crap, where were you sitting I'm guessing the kop the atmosphere was decent up there plenty of people making noise but it just never really took off until the end. Glad to see I didn't dream it all.

It seems most wednesday fans like us, why is this? The pearson factor? Ben Marshall? I can only speak for myself, I never had a problem with Leicester City despite growing up in West Mids. Seems odd, but I loved how you played at the 'Walkers Stadium' - guess that would be my introduction to Leicester City. The little things stand out when you're a kid! Thanks for the well wishes, would be a calamity if we went down. Leicester won't need the top 6; automatic promotion for you lads this season.
MattyLCFC Posted 10 December 2012 Posted 10 December 2012 You will have to watch Leicester - Cardiff on Saturday the 22nd if you can afford it, should be a cracking game!

There's always at least one spanner.
kingfox Posted 10 December 2012 Posted 10 December 2012 See Futacs is the man. And there are rumours about him going in January I agree with the comment where you say our midfield doesn't control games enough, in some games we do especially the one's we win, but where we have lost we have struggled in that area, but I won't go into to much detail or Babylon or Mark will jump on me.
deep blue Posted 10 December 2012 Posted 10 December 2012 Thanks for that, UOLOwl. Our team has had favourable comments from supporters/reporters of several of the opposing teams we've played so far. But when we put on a poor performance, or lose points we should have won, our fans on here are naturally disappointed and tend to overdose on the negative thoughts (and even abuse opposing supporters who come in peace). But who am I to talk - I'm as bad as any of them! Good luck with your studies this year. I hope that by the end of your stay in Leicester you'll have converted to the true faith.
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 10 December 2012 Posted 10 December 2012 Sheffield Wednesday is a club I've always rated and hope they get out of the trouble they're in at the moment. Thanks for all of your support and good luck mate with your studies.
Deucalion Posted 10 December 2012 Posted 10 December 2012 Yeah, thanks for the objective input. I've had a soft spot for Wednesday since I lived in Rotherhamshire among mainly Sheffield United fans!
crisp packet Posted 10 December 2012 Posted 10 December 2012 Most fans on here don't go to games so ........
Lobsterboyuk Posted 10 December 2012 Posted 10 December 2012 One of my top ten games was wednesday away in the league cup in the nineties when we got royally stuffed - 7-1. Both sets of fans were magnificent that night, makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up remembering that night.
