Jon the Hat Posted 7 January 2013 Posted 7 January 2013 Well to be fair GD is complaining about paying tax on money he is earnt, whereas a man claiming for 30 kids is receiving money he hasn't don anything to earn, a bit harsh to call him a cvnt, and the net result is the same, less money for the state.... ...but I do sympathise with GD, not that he shouldn't pay taxes, but he is paying an exorbitant amount on what he has worked hard (arguably) for, and as much as I don't agree with him earning that amount of money, if could save a couple of million quid by living in Belgium or Russia, I probably would, although the Cayman Islands would also be nice. What does surprise me about his decision is why not move to Monaco? Because both are depriving the state, just in different ways. So perhaps we should put people who retire in the same bucket. They stop paying tax in many cases. What about the dead? Bastards depriving the almighty state of its pound of flesh! Oh the theivery! Not the same thing is it?
Jon the Hat Posted 7 January 2013 Posted 7 January 2013 Since you’ve been running this place with an iron fist in a velvet glove they wouldn’t dare do otherwise . I'd quite forgotten Webbo is a mod. I was getting a bit irate last night, but I am happy to be in this thread today.
Zingari Posted 7 January 2013 Posted 7 January 2013 can someone just clarify something for me . Is GD likely to be earning enough money in Russia , even if he will be paying less tax to make up the difference . I'd quite forgotten Webbo is a mod. I was getting a bit irate last night, but I am happy to be in this thread today. that's the velvet glove bit
Rincewind Posted 7 January 2013 Posted 7 January 2013 I may have used an extreme example but I was trying to make the point that there should be no favoritism.
Webbo Posted 7 January 2013 Posted 7 January 2013 Michael Caine became an American citizen in the 70s so that he could spend longer here without paying tax. I don't know how it works in France but I doubt that he'll be living in Russia full time.
Captain... Posted 7 January 2013 Posted 7 January 2013 So perhaps we should put people who retire in the same bucket. They stop paying tax in many cases. What about the dead? Bastards depriving the almighty state of its pound of flesh! Oh the theivery! Not the same thing is it? Well if anything what GD is doing is worse, he is deliberately depriving the state of France of money they deserve by French law. The father of 30 is claiming money he is owed by right by UK law.
Jon the Hat Posted 7 January 2013 Posted 7 January 2013 I may have used an extreme example but I was trying to make the point that there should be no favoritism. I don't agree. We should absolutley look more favourably on people who though their own hard work put in more to the pot than they take out. Just like I have more respect for you than I would for someone claiming benefits without having worked the whole of their adult life. Shit happens, and we could all end up needings state help, and I for one would not be too proud to take it. I see it like an insurance policy that I pay into, and I expect it to be there if things go tits up. Relying on benefits in these circumstances is far different from choosing a lifestyle living on them and popping out kids without a care in the world.
The People's Hero Posted 7 January 2013 Posted 7 January 2013 I may have used an extreme example but I was trying to make the point that there should be no favoritism. In the eyes of the law you mean? (there isn't) Or in our own opinions? ie are you saying we need to like all people the same?

The father of 30 is claiming money he is owed by right by UK law. Nope, he is choosing to live and take nationality in another country. The French state has no right to his earnings outside of France if he is not a French Citizen. Their mistake in my view, but he has that right and is breaking no laws.
Carl the Llama Posted 7 January 2013 Posted 7 January 2013 So back on topic, you think Obelisk has too much influence? He doesn't like it so he takes his tax money elsewhere. Voting with his feet! I dont see how anyone who believes in liberty can condemn this in any way. It is a simple freedom of movement. It's Obelix. If you can't get your minor facts right I refuse to take your views seriously.
Jon the Hat Posted 7 January 2013 Posted 7 January 2013 It's Obelix. If you can't get your minor facts right I refuse to take your views seriously. I was taking the piss. You are just looking for an excuse to bury your head in the sand. I am right and you know it.

I agree just playing devil's advocate but in neither case is a law being broken, but they are both depriving the state of their birth money. So the obvious response is that the laws be changed.
Rincewind Posted 7 January 2013 Posted 7 January 2013 In the eyes of the law you mean? (there isn't) Or in our own opinions? ie are you saying we need to like all people the same? A bit of both. A rich man avoids paying millions in tax and he is seen as a hero whereas a normal bloke on the street avoids a couple of quid he is a villain. In my view they are both wrong according to the law.. The only difference the one with millions has lawyers and accountants to sort things out.

Or he uses the French system to get himself into a wonderful position and then when he has to start paying back for all the years of training and support the state and country has given him he runs off to a country who invested nothing in him.
Mack Posted 7 January 2013 Author Posted 7 January 2013 All this debate and bluster. From what I can see most people who earn a larger amount of money employ for want of a better phrase a 'tax dodging' expert to ensure they don't pay what they should.
Charl91 Posted 7 January 2013 Posted 7 January 2013 A bit of both. A rich man avoids paying millions in tax and he is seen as a hero whereas a normal bloke on the street avoids a couple of quid he is a villain. In my view they are both wrong according to the law.. The only difference the one with millions has lawyers and accountants to sort things out. One man pays millions in tax, more then probably everyone in this forum earns put together. The other is not only not contributing any taxes, but actually being a massive drain on society by being irresponsible. 75% tax is daylight robbery, their government is really taking the piss; if he wants to go somewhere else to pay slightly less (not avoid tax altogether) then he is more then welcome to! I don't understand how you can think these are the same in the slightest. If you were arguing against a rich person who pays 0% tax, then I would be more inclined to agree with you.
pSinatra Posted 7 January 2013 Posted 7 January 2013 Jimmy Carr springs to mind. why all the Jimmy Carr hate? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/tony-blair/8999890/Tony-Blair-and-the-8million-tax-mystery.html

Deucalion Posted 7 January 2013 Posted 7 January 2013 I bet this thread wouldn't be so popular if there was any transfer news.
I am Rod Hull Posted 7 January 2013 Posted 7 January 2013 I bet this thread wouldn't be so popular if there was any transfer news. Gen chat folk don`t do the transfer thread, in fact none of us them ever go on there, we they are far too intelligent for that shite
Captain... Posted 7 January 2013 Posted 7 January 2013 The transfer rumours sub-forum is fvcking horrendous. Much nicer squabbling in general chat over things I at least know a little about.
The Doctor Posted 7 January 2013 Posted 7 January 2013 The transfer rumours sub-forum is fvcking horrendous. Much nicer squabbling in general chat over things I at least know a little about. Aye aye to that, I've hidden the entire city sub-forum to avoid all that shit.
FoxyPV Posted 7 January 2013 Posted 7 January 2013 I bet this thread wouldn't be so popular if there was any transfer news. Gen Chat is like a meeting of Mensa compared to anything on the main Leicester forum.
Deucalion Posted 7 January 2013 Posted 7 January 2013 Gen Chat is like a meeting of Mensa compared to anything on the main Leicester forum. Well... I don't belong. I'm only here because I'm bored with the average smo's bit.
