indierich06 Posted 22 January 2013 Posted 22 January 2013 I'm off to Amsterdam with the Mrs for five days in March, we've got a fair few bits planned - any recommendations?
Deucalion Posted 22 January 2013 Posted 22 January 2013 I am so so tempted just to book a few days there to chill by myself. Take a few books, top up the old tan, see a few sights, take a few pics. Sorted. What months are 100% decent weather? Reading some reviews and they're saying the water wasn't turquoise as pictured and there was weird **** floating in it which is a bit off putting. What time of year did you go and what was it like then? I've only been during July and August and the weather has been wall to wall sunshine without a cloud in the sky. The temperature has been in excess of 40'C every time I have been in Summer. I don't think you have to worry about inclement weather in Turkey. I think the sunny season on the Turkish coast runs from April to September and you are pretty much guaranteed sunshine. The beach where the boat trips pull up can get a bit oily but there is plenty of other beach which is fine, perfect even. Olu Deniz is a national park so there are strict rules about litter and pollution. I wouldn't worry about either concern.

Amsterdam is a great city to do not very much in. There are seats outside bars alongside canals so you can just stroll, watch people, watch the boats, watch the dodgy stuff! When I was there I went to the Anne Frank Museum and to the Heineken Brewery.
Webbo Posted 22 January 2013 Posted 22 January 2013 I'm not sure if all the problems over there will have changed it much though. If you're able to try and spend a bit of time in Thessaloniki whilst you're over there, top city as well. We went there for a day last year. Very nice harbour side cafes and bars. I loved it there but there wasn't many on the bus who agreed. A lot of graffiti and rough looking characters about.

Yeah, it's not the best city in the world but I really liked it, had a bit of character, like the white tower thing next to the harbour, and all the different squares lining it. Did you spend some time in Halkidiki last year as well? I'm sure I remember seeing you post something about that on here.
Tincy Posted 23 January 2013 Posted 23 January 2013 Me and the mrs looking at going tunisa, has anyone been? what did you think??

FoxesAreBlue Posted 23 January 2013 Posted 23 January 2013 Cancun in June, and provisional plans to go Vegas is august... Best get saving my money Anyone been to either? Vegas, I loved it - others will hate it. I only gambled once just to say that I had and the rest is just pure entertainment. Disneyland for Adults.
Poakey Posted 23 January 2013 Posted 23 January 2013 Florida booked for july. Florida booked for August, Kids 1st time so staying in Disney to make it more special for them. Love america.

I liked the city myself the graffiti and stuff gave it a bit of an edge. It didn't help that there was a lot of walking and it was boiling hot.
Unabomber Posted 23 January 2013 Posted 23 January 2013 I am going to Brussels for a few days with some mates, we will be also going to Bruges for a day. Looking forward to the beer.

Both fantastic in different ways. My first holiday to Cancun in 06 is the best I've ever been on! Just be prepared for OTT Americans who can't handle their drink.

As Matt says Senor Frogs is decent, Coco Bongos, The City, Dady O's and Basic are the best ones I remember. See if Fat Tuesdays is still going, went to a Mardi Gras night there. Best night of my life!
Soar Fox Posted 23 January 2013 Posted 23 January 2013 Cancun in June, and provisional plans to go Vegas is august... Best get saving my money Anyone been to either? Went Vegas in August 2011 best lads holiday I've ever been on. Stayed in the MGM grand try and go to the pool party there, Wet Republic it's awesome. Plenty of decent bars and nightclubs take plenty of money though. I spent over £2000 in 5 days. Coyotes Ugly in New York New York is a good bar. Ghost bar on 55th floor in palms is very good you'll need to wear a suit or something similar to get in though. Hoping to go back again this year about September time.

SOCCERROO FOX Posted 23 January 2013 Posted 23 January 2013 I've pissed off to Spain on my own a few times for a few days over the years, nothing wrong with it at all. Very relaxing and you can go out on the pull not giving a shit. Spent a fortune already on my hols for this year, I'm off to Melbourne, Auckland and Dubai in March, taking in some cricket and racing and will probably do the GP in Australia while I'm there, got a stag do booked in Banus in June as well. Hoping to get out to Vegas/California to take in a fight in November, doesnt look like any British fighter is going to be there anytime soon mind.... Where you staying? We just booked accom decided to only stay 3 nights in Auckland 23rd to 26th. Also will you be in Dubai for the racing worldcup? I would love to go to that one year, doesn't even bother me if i can't drink or punt there.

Yeah going to the World Cup, never been but looking forward to it, you cant punt so I'll sort that out before I go over the net but you can drink on the course, you make sure you dont stagger around pissed as a fart.

I think we would of gone if we were there for the original 4 nights but want to try and get to the Harness racing one of the days maybe. Were staying at the Quadrant near the harbour in Auckland, i wanted to stay at the backpackers to try it on with some tourists but the 2 blokes i'm going with don't like hostels. Yeah ways around the punting, reckon it will be quality definetly pull an all nighter watching every year. The races are quality and the opening ceremony etc is brilliant.
Guest MattP Posted 23 January 2013 Posted 23 January 2013 Nice one, I'll message you nearer the time and we'll meet up for a few beers.
