True clairvoyance :o  If I see Pereira roll up his pant legs and get into the creek, I'll ask you for some stock picks.

I remember Thomas Bjorn throwing away a lead at Royal St George's once too.

Pretty sure it was 2004 when I was there!

Ben Curtis won it. I was sat at the 18th and we heard Bjorn took 3 to get out of a bunker on 16.

These things are never over.

I also called a play off if you made -5 :D

Superb in the play off.

Forced to lay up and produce a half strength wedge like that, incredible distance control. Reminded me of myself.

This is going to the next hole I reckon...

So Justin Tbomas hits a massive slice and it's a great shot.

I do it and get shouted at for nearly killing someone on the next fairway.

This game is bullshit.

Easy to say, and he obviously had no idea at the start of the day, but Fitzpatrick goes round level par, he wins that.

Sounds easy for the pro's. I know it isn't though!

After all those guys chasing their first major in the top six of the leaderboard, it’s a player who’s been there and done it that gets the job done.

Just like at the Players last year, Thomas sneaks up and takes victory, bloody pesky American

Justin Thomas seems like a really sound guy. Outstanding golfer as well.

Had an interesting weekend on the course this weekend.

Today in the rollup medal, shot a decent (ish) 74, but im going through a phase where one or two holes are killing me. I made two double bogey out of nowhere today, one on a par 3 and one from a bad tee shot on a par 4 into a fairway bunker, which completely negated 3 nice birdies on the way around. So a decent round, but one that could have been so much better.

However, its saturday that got me thinking.

Playing one of our big 36 hole medal comps, i shot 79 (+8) for the round. But this doesnt tell the whole story.

Heres the card:

SC1.thumb.png.6960ab2380eac8e5c8ec9b06ed50df72.pngSC2.thumb.png.ccb7ce30ed014046c6bbde321cfe2cdb.png

England golf recognises it as a 6 for handicapping purposes, but the obvious number on the card is the 11 taken at the 3rd hole.

3 balls out of bounds, and a bogey with the 4th ball having been 7 off the tee. Not ideal to say the least. So the round was actually 79, but England Golf recognises the round as a 74 (11 reduced to a nett double bogey). Obviously for the competition, the 11 is an 11 and im out of it even though theres a second round!

So it got me thinking..... Whats the worst score youve made on a hole? how did you do it? Can anyone top me in the hall of shame with a 12 or more???

I made a 10 once in the final round of the club champs which still haunts me today.

But worse than that, I was once playing a singles game in a club semi final match at home and the winning team would have played the final at Walton Heath so everyone was buzzing.

It was 7 singles and I was out last. I was 4 up with 5 to play and cruising. Suddenly my opponent stated playing out of his skin and won the last 5 holes so I lost 1 down.

Got in the clubhouse and found out it was 3-3 before my game and everything was riding on my result.

No one spoke to me for about 2 weeks afterwards. Nightmare.

Ouch, thats tough to take.

Matchplay is a format where that can happen. You can be winning a match, yet the opponent has momentum and you feel like youre losing. Theres so much ebb and flow. Its why its so beautiful, but so tough.

Great event at Colonial CC by the way, even the best players in the world suffer when the greens are firm and its blowing 20mph.

Can anyone explain to me how the Saudi Golf League actually works?

The first field is limited to 50 players? If thats the case, which 50 players make up the field?? This process is fairly self explanatory for a DP World Tour or PGA Tour event, because the players who are exempt on the tour have different categories of exemption, which have different priorities, which is used to make up the field. If you arent in the field due to exemption, you either get in by a sponsors invitation, or you monday qualify.

So then, the players who tee it up, do you get any world ranking points depending on where you finish?? because if you get no world ranking points, then youre more than likely jeopardising your chances of playing the majors and WGC events.

Plus, if the money is so lucrative, wouldnt the Korn Ferry and Challenge Tour players just try and get a saudi card? Comes back to how the field is made up. I dont see any priority ranking. Is a guy whos making 100k on the challenge tour aiming to get onto the DP going to turn down the saudi money??

I dont think itll have much effect on the PGA Tour but this could kill off the DP world tour.

Seems like the only events you see the big name europeans play now are their home event, i.e. Rory playing the Irish Open, The Scottish Open & Wentworth always gets a good field, and then the only events the top players play are the middle east at the beginning of the year, and then Nedbank and DP Finals.

DOnt know why they just dont have some co sanctioned DP/Saudi events to be honest.

I dont begrudge the likes of Richard Bland chasing the dollars. Hes not going to win a major or play ryder cup, so three years of guaranteed huge prize funds is appealing. Could say the same for Sergio, he is unlikely to win another major or play another Ryder so it makes sense.

But it could be pretty damaging overall to the game.

LIV golf (Saudi Golf League) have apparently applied to the OWGR (Official World Golf Rankings) to see if their tournaments can gain world ranking points.

Sounds like the application process won't be agreed in time for the first tourney next week but maybe for future ones. LIV golf are saying they're 'in partnership' with the Asian Tour so should be awarded OWGR points.

The fact they've only got 42 players registered for next week so far so suggests to me they're struggling to get a full field. They need 48 in order to run the 12 teams x 4 element which sounds really confusing as there will probably be a different field for each event.

The whole set up seems a bit amateur to me and the ticket prices for Centurion are taking the piss (£67 for a day pass). I'm not surprised who's jumped ship and I imagine DJ has been offered a shit load of money to be the 'big name' star to front it.

Will be interesting to see the fields for the US events coming up and I reckon it will be a mix of PGA, Korn Ferry, Asian Tour, DP tour and a few amateurs again.

All seems a bit of a mish mash at the moment and I guess we just need to see how it all plays out.

Also, I reckon the players who've signed up to LIV are playing chicken with the PGA/DP world tour. All this talk of being banned from future events/Ryder Cups etc. and my guess is it'll all go to court and the players will hope they win and be allowed to play wherever they want as private contractors. If they do end up not being allowed back on the PGA/DP tour then that's obviously a risk they're happy to take.

Bottom line is they can probably make more money from playing 12 LIV tournaments a year than 30 PGA/DP tournaments so I can see the logic if you're Richard Bland etc.

Went round in 96 at longcliffe yesterday.

Definitely not wanting to bring the discussion of football and our manager into this topic too much, but it’s just struck me how similar my mentality is with football and golf.

On the face of it, I should be happy with 96 as I’m crap! I think it would’ve been 39 points in Stableford. But I’m not satisfied with the score, because I made so many small errors that cost me a fantastic score.

I was flying- On 37 going up the 9th- a tough uphill par 4) My second shot was a crap chip out of rough that didn’t make the fairway which gave me a crap 3rd shot. My 4th shot should’ve been a simple wedge onto the green over a bunker (about 50 yards) Caught it too well and ended up on the green behind and then duffed my chip back onto our green. Ended up with an 8- went out in 45

11th hole I hit a perfect tee shot, then completely thinned my lob wedge OOB and wound up with a 7.

3 off the tee on the par 3 15th after topping my original tee shot.

Such tiny small margins end up costing such a lot. In golf and football

I went round South Chesterfield in 94 last week. I thought I played alright for my standard, and was thinking of breaking 90. Out in 45, in in 49. Only duffed one iron shot. I did however thin a shot out of the bunker over the green and ended up with a 7 after being in the bunker for two. Only lost one ball too, hooked left off the tee.

My putting let me down, a couple of three putts. I rarely leave myself a decent chance for birdie or par though. Too many approaches are either just on the edge or just off the green.

I spend far too long following golfers on YouTube - literally hours a day. There's so much quality content these days and I probably subscribe to at least 30 different golf channels.

Here's my top 10 and would be interested to know who anyone else subscribes to:

1. Good Good - 6 US lads who are all decent players in their own right. Great banter, competition and podcasts

2. Micha Morris golf (from Good Good) 27 year old trying to make it on the PGA tour, hits it a mile

3. gm_golf - Garrett Clark (also from Good Good)

4. Grant Horvat golf (also from Good Good) only a young guy but a great instructor

5. Bryan Bros Golf - Wesley & George Bryan (Wesley has won on the PGA tour) - both amazing players

6. Fore Play (Barstool sports) 4 average golfers who swear a lot

7. Rick Shiels - his game is crap these days but he gets some great guests on (recently played against Westwood & Fleetwood)

8. Peter Finch Golf (love his 'quest for the Open' series)

9. Not A Scratch Golfer (Canadian bloke plays off about 7 who I can relate to)

10. Golf Mates (Liam and his mates from Bolton is good fun)

Could easily list another 10 and recently started following BDC who gives a good insight into life on tour.

@Izzy

Great list of content, I do like Rick Shiels and Peter Finch a lot.

The insight from Micah Morris during the monday qualifiers too is absolutely fascinating.

Id also add into this list a couple of other channels for people who have a very specific interest in equipment or instruction:

The Average Golfer - As the name suggests, the reviewer is maybe a 9 or 10 handicap, a little better than average, but its good to get insight from someone who hits the ball normal distances and looks at different products, ie usable ones, not just golf bag porn.

Tour Golf Experience - Ian Fraser and Matt Blois, but often joined by other guests like Mac Boucher who is a Canadian mini tour player. This channel can be a little geeky admittedly, but they do a phenomenal job testing out equipment set ups, new products, and simulated conditions to show their effects. They also run a Q&A live each monday from around 5pm which is well worth tuning into and asking a question.

Waite Mayo - Again this is quite geeky from an instruction point of view, but if youre into the physics of whats going on at impact from a trackman/3D perspective, these guys nail it. Grant Waite was a long time PGA Tour player too.
