Hi Everyone.

The golf corner of this forum is one of my favourite places to hang out and meet fellow like minded golfers.

Had a really good couple of days recently.

First of all, on saturday morning i was down to https://www.asgolf.co.uk/   at the golf simulator there at Birstall. Fantastic Facility. Id been looking at a new set of irons and I can highly recommend visiting Andy at the simulator to get you fitted up. He has the mizuno DNA system there and this is ideal to really help you narrow down the specs youre looking for. Lofts, lies, everything can be measured through DNA, and id tried out the Mizuno Pro 225 irons.

I got the following numbers which Andy sent to me for my reference (numbers are gathered with a 7 iron and all numbers on a scale of 1-9 so tempo for example, 1 would be a languid tempo, 9 would be a very fast hard tempo):

1315597707_MIZDNA.thumb.jpg.5a17f370cba1c632ac8e140a3bedb961.jpg

This got me set up in just a basic 1 degree upright lie angle, standard lofts, and the good old faithful Dynamic Gold X100 shaft that ive been using for probably about 20 years!

Ive played some nice rounds recently, and was out with my dad today just at Beedles Lake. We should aim to play more often. I tend to play white tees but with dad we played a nice round off yellows, and nipped round in three and a half hours. Was a gusty wind blowing today, course is pretty open and accomodating, but with the gusty wind it was a tricky day and was generally happy with the game to shoot 73. A couple of untidy 3 putts didnt help but I dont get too hung up on that now as ive no doubt holed a few good ones that werent on the perfect line as well, so it evens itself out.

Im happy with how things are going this year, ive worked hard on my game, particularly short game and i feel like im really starting to see the benefits of that now. Ive had some bad scores this year, the score of over 100 was a day I went off the course through illness, but im generally very happy with the way my game has been trending this year. Green dots are "counting" scores on the handicap.....some of my counting scores are from last year as the best 8 of 20 count for handicap, but the overall trend is really positive I feel this year:

Morley Hayes sends shivers down my spine.  Used to work for a large engineering company in Derby and every BS manager away day was held there.  Great course though!

I must admit i like it there, its got lots of different sets of tees so can make the course as long or short as short as you like, and its a nice course for giving it a rip with the driver, its quite wide and open and great for society golf.

Some incredible scores there 👏🏼 👏🏼

I went out during the Leicester game Sunday afternoon having not played for two weeks. Unfortunately I was stuck behind 3 2 balls, a 3 ball and then the tail end of that days comp.

So I walked off after the 5th as I’d still be there now!

I was striking my mid irons beautifully though which is a far cry from 6 weeks ago when everything was duffed. In fact, on Sunday it was my 3 wood off the tee (which is normally very very dependable) which got me into trouble on all 4 of the first 5 holes at Longcliffe 😂

Playing Cosby on Saturday with a lad I bumped into in Rome. Never played it so not sure what to expect

Cosby is a nice course and its a big challenge but an enjoyable one. I dont think its a "premier" course but its a very good course.

The greens are quite small and slopey. As long as you keep the ball straight youll be ok but quite a few holes dont have much bailout to them. Its important to really commit to where youre trying to hit it and dont get too ambitious off the tee. But youll enjoy it around there i think.

Great to hear youre striking it pure 😎

Some good shoopting there,  good to see the handicap gpoing in the right direction.

Played Kilworth Springs tonight in a B team match,  was +1 through 15 then went and bogied the last three winning 1 up with our opponents missing a three footer on the last.  Still the best I've played this year,  struck the ball very nocely off the tee and the putter bahaved itself.  Hopefully a sign of things to come.

Playing Cavendish on Friday,  up in Buxton.  Not a long track,  but being a Mackenzie has tricky to find small slopey greens,  hoping the good form continues.

I'm a memeber at Cosby,  unfortunatly mantenance week was delayed this year due to have a big county event on a couple of weekends ago,  so the greens are not at their best.  I'm sure you'll enjoy it though.  You don't need to be long off the tee,  but you do need to keep in straight and your iron shots need to be spot on,  othwerwise you will face some tricky up and downs to save par.  Good luck,  play well but most importantly enjoy.

Always good to hear mate, very good effort too.

Kilworth Springs is always a nice one to play, particularly in winter as its so dry on the sand base. Theres one of the county events being held there this year, the Mercury Cup. if its a course you enjoy, get involved, you could win a very generous pro shop voucher

Thanks for that.

It’s a shame I’ve no time between now and Saturday PM to get to grips with my 3 Wood again

I always enjoy a round there is winter,  as its way more playable then anywhere else round here.  However I'm not sure I've seen it in such Nick as last night,  Tee's don't look like they've had any work done on them for years,  and if I was to remove all stones from around my ball in the one bunker I found,  then I'd still be there now.  Own memebers were particularly scathing.

Ive not been there for quite a while maybe a year or so but thats very disappointing to hear that.

With the facilities they have you wouldnt expect augusta national but sad that its gone downhill.

Might just be a case of not watering enough and too much course traffic?

Don’t like the PGA being played in May but it is what it is.

No idea who to back and any of the usual suspects could win.

As with any major:

1) Hope it’s not a yank winner

2) Hope it’s not a procession

Shame no Phil or Bryson but should still be a good watch

Two of the young upcomers id keep an eye on are Davis Riley and Maverick McNealy...both swing it so well and im convinced youll see one of them winin the next couple of months.

Southern Hills looks superb. Just an all round tough and fair test of golf.

Looking like Rory might be getting the best end of the draw,  hope he can take advantage. Would live to see him win another major.

Proper major track isn't it. Really impressed with how they've set it up this week.

Great to see the wind up too and giving the players a stern test. Things are hotting up nicely....

Rory off to a great start -4 after 7

Looking good…

I was half-hoping he would screw the pooch today, just so you wouldn't waste your whole weekend in forlorn hope.

But you're going to watch it anyway.  And Rory's a decent bloke, so good luck to him.

But we both know one of our army of zero-charisma, red-white-and-blue machines is coming to steal your joy.  Just relax and try to enjoy it, as they say.

Has Max Homa ever been paired with Webb Simpson to form the Homa Simpson group?

On a football related note, imagine the fallout if the singer Cher married Mark Noble.
