We have the best defence in the division and some people want to change it?

Maybe they are thinking that one win in 6 games isn't good enough?

I would hope no one would put that down to the left back position over the last 6.

If that was the case no 2nd tier football team in history would be able to assemble a consistent side.

You can't play him in three positions. You'd have to pick one for him and then buy players for the other two so no, keeping him will not save us money on three players.

He could be back competition for all those positions though. If we sell him and want competition for Konchesky and better competition for the left wing than Dyer, and better back up than Vardy, we'll have to find them from somewhere. Whereas Jeff could come off the bench now for whichever position is needed in a particular game.

It just doesn't make any sense to me. I wouldn't mind if he'd been given more game time, but we've not really tried to nurture his potential at all (even last season a lot of his appearances were wide on the right, he's got potential for 3 positions and we still picked him out of position!)

He had a stint at left back, looked very good for the most part, and then he's disappeared :dunno: It wasn't too big a deal when we were doing well, but we have had a few bad runs of form and we might need/have needed to change things up and he's nowhere to be seen.

Oh come on, Gradel tore up the Championship for Leeds in a way no winger has done for us in a very long time. He was a youngster going through a difficult personal time when he was with us, but again, you could see he had potential.

I think you're deluding yourself if you think we couldn't have done with him the way he played for them, or if you think we got a good price for him.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, of course we know now that we could have done with him during his only good season in English football. Maybe we could have got more for him or given him another season but I don't begrudge Pearson for letting him go, especially as he handed in a transfer request.

Your point was that we have the best defence and that you can't understand anyone wanting to change it. My point is that our form is shocking .... changing the left back may well be the answer .... for me this is the worst run of form that Konch has had as well as the team ... maybe the injection of a pacey youngster and putting Dyer back in at left wing may be the spark that ignites our form again.

To make no change and expect different results doesn't make sense.

I'd leave it then, we have been in the top 6 all season with the current side so I'd leave them to it.

I agree with this - he provides alot of cover for a mere £1.5m.

Couple that with his potential and this is just a stupid move.

Well NP agrees with you there!!!

For me if you only win once in 6 games then you change things around a bit.

Also, you have to take SOME risks with young players. Yeh, they aren't going to be perfect at first, that's expected. But you can't always use the excuse 'we're desperate for promotion and we don't want to put our faith in youth products'. We take inexperienced youth products from other clubs and persevere with their inconsistency, why not nurture our own?

I'm happy for us to take the hit of selling him for £1.5-2million if it strengthens our relationship with them and allows us to take some of their best players on loan/have first refusal on those that aren't quite good enough for them.

Pearson obviously doesn't rate Schlupp that highly, neither do I, and for all we know neither do Manchester United (although obviously enough to be happy to take him - this doesn't mean they think he's of the Zaha/Wellbeck calibre). That price for them is peanuts and it's a fairly low risk move for them in that they've had a good look at him and decided he's someone they can pay that for and either make a player out of or sell for a price that re-coups most, if not all, of that amount.

It seems to me that because Manchester United have taken him on trial for a month and played him in a couple of reserve matches people think he's now suddenly this fantastic prospect that everyone's been clamouring for inclusion in our side. Yes he could, perhaps should, have had more opportunities but he never really looked like a potential world beater and I'd rather base my opinion on what I saw of him in Leicester shirt than the fact that Manchester United want him in their reserves.

As a striker he scored a few but had real opportunities to make an impression under Sven but didn't really. As a left back he displayed the physical attributes to be safe enough there but not the positional sense or defensive know-how. To lose someone like that in order to become Manchester United's little brother club is a price I'm willing for us to pay.

A good move for all parties concerned this one.

That's unfair, people have been saying for some time that he's a prospect, and many were disappointed to see him disappear after that Leeds game.

I notice you don't mention his potential (or lack of) as a winger, only as a left back or a striker.

This could be irrelevant by June. If we don't get promotion this season Pearson will probably get the sack.

It won't be us who benefit from getting the pick of Man Utd youngsters it will be more than likely the club that Pearson is next managing.

To think that we paid a million pound for a 25 year old conference player and then selling one of our best young products for 500k more, in my opinion is terrible business.

Might turn out to be Max Gradel #2. Another promising, young player that Pearson will have let go. Personally though, I can't see what the fuss is about Schlupp. He's 20 and for me, if he was a prestigious talent then he'd have already nailed down a first team place, which he hasn't. He can't be compared to Zaha, who's been playing regularly for Palace since he was what, 17/18?

Take the money and use it to improve our squad.

Shame, I like Schlupp always have. In those few games he played at left-back, we saw potential.

Who knows where Man Utd will play him, they could always loan him back to us, or gives us Nick Powell on loan.

Wouldn't be surprised if Man Utd buy Baines, as a replacement for Evra, they also have Buttner.

Is it just me that isn't that upset about this? Sure I'd rather see him given a chance ahead of Vardy or Waghorn (even Konch, at times), but Pearson clearly sees them as more 'complete' players, and Schlupp won't get any better by stagnating on the bench with the odd cameo appearance. We can't really offer the opportunity / time to develop youngsters in the same manner in which United can. Pearson has to field what he believes is his strongest side (whether people believe Vardy is a better forward than Schlupp is another issue), we've got to be gung-ho and try to crack promotion this season - with the cash the Thais have splashed it needs to happen sooner rather than later. It's unfortunate to see an academy product move on but, for me - we're getting a reasonable price if we end up with the eventual £2.5 million - and it's not like we're letting him move to a rival, the lad's heading to Man United.

(If the move goes through) Good luck, Jeff. Would love him to do well.

Seemed a fair to good player in the couple of outings i saw.

Has NP every explained why he doesnt see a place for him in our side?

If he is a player of the future, grabbing what in reality is not much at all, seems quite short sighted.

I know you didn't, but the point is what's so great about £1.5m when we could have a player who will be worth much more than that in years to come, or who might be worh more to us right now?

The kid has 3 positions, how much money will it take to fill those 3?

kind of a pointless asking how much it will cost to fill 3 positions, he can only play in 1 poition at a time regardless of how good he is, therefore the other positions require players anyway.

Wanted him to do well here partly for the name, but weve still got Dodoo

Other than that its a big dissapointment to have someone develop in the club, around the squad, earning a place in the squad and then in contention for the first team and looking such a prospect throughout to suddenly be whisked away without seeing his full potential here.

I hope we get adequatly compensated for our loss, but I would want add ons that equate to more than £2.5m
