United to start negotiation on £1.5 million bid for Schlupp

£1.5M is loads for Leicester!

Remember when we let Bamba go for £750K, Fryatt for £1.2m, Hobbs for £800K...

We are possibly the worst selling club in football! That Neville guy who does our transfers is a baboon!!

You know I didn't mean it literally. I'm sorry I just don't think it's a horrendous offer!

I know you didn't, but the point is what's so great about £1.5m when we could have a player who will be worth much more than that in years to come, or who might be worh more to us right now?

The kid has 3 positions, how much money will it take to fill those 3?

He won't be worth much if he stays with us, as has been said he'll just be sent out on loan to league 1 if he returns. Pearson is fine when it comes to defending but we need a specialised attack coach as he quite frankly hasn't got a clue how to develop a strikers game. An attack scout wouldn't go amiss either as his record in signing strikers is embarrassing.

Pearson has a history of letting decent young players go, just look at Gradel, and how little we got there, 250k wasn't it?

I would say he has a history for doing it, I can only this of your example of Gradel as well. And to be honest, at the time, I didn't really rate Gradel that much. Pearson probably looks back at that as a mistake though.

Good luck to Jeff if he signs for one of the biggest clubs in the World, but I just don't get why we would let a young, upcoming player of our own go for £1.5million. He is still young and has time to develop more, but I'm also slightly suprised that Manchester United went for him in the first place. But there you go, that's football for you.

It seems to me that every player that isn't playing for us is the next best thing to Messi and the answer to all our problems.

Until they get some game time and we realise they are not.

Not too bothered either way to be honest.

It is obviously he has great potential, to come in at left back and do so well with minimal experience shows how good he could be in that position at least. He has great natural ability and with more experience will gain consistency and improve his all round game.

I'm very disappointed to see him go and for us to potentially miss out on a great player in the future.

Not so sure this is true. He had Fryatt scoring when he was here the last time and Knockaert isn't too bad either. Throw in the fact that he managed to persuade Wood to sign and I would say you are a little off the mark there.

We need to be able to develop him with time on the pitch because of our lack of strength of coaching staff in comparison to United. Added to the fact that our owners want instant success. It's like sending a kid to University with top lecturers vs giving him time in a placement where he's just making tea for office workers. He won't reach his maximum potential with us, and I'm sorry but 27 appearances over three seasons doesn't warrant more than 1.5million for me. Considering a lot of Under 21 players are picked up for even less than than, and he isn't part of the lucrative English market.

I'm happy for us to take the hit of selling him for £1.5-2million if it strengthens our relationship with them and allows us to take some of their best players on loan/have first refusal on those that aren't quite good enough for them.

Pearson obviously doesn't rate Schlupp that highly, neither do I, and for all we know neither do Manchester United (although obviously enough to be happy to take him - this doesn't mean they think he's of the Zaha/Wellbeck calibre). That price for them is peanuts and it's a fairly low risk move for them in that they've had a good look at him and decided he's someone they can pay that for and either make a player out of or sell for a price that re-coups most, if not all, of that amount.

It seems to me that because Manchester United have taken him on trial for a month and played him in a couple of reserve matches people think he's now suddenly this fantastic prospect that everyone's been clamouring for inclusion in our side. Yes he could, perhaps should, have had more opportunities but he never really looked like a potential world beater and I'd rather base my opinion on what I saw of him in Leicester shirt than the fact that Manchester United want him in their reserves.

As a striker he scored a few but had real opportunities to make an impression under Sven but didn't really. As a left back he displayed the physical attributes to be safe enough there but not the positional sense or defensive know-how. To lose someone like that in order to become Manchester United's little brother club is a price I'm willing for us to pay.

A good move for all parties concerned this one.

I'm sure Pearson wants to keep Leicester-Man Utd relations sweet but £1.5m is not enough, even Sven who turned a blind eye to the talent we had even saw that Schlupp had quality

Keane and 1.5 mill and then we'll talk...

If this goes ahead i'll be p'eed off. Missed opportunity. Will be another Gradel like player, again Pearson reluctant to play these young players coming up from the academy. He has potential to do great things at LCFC whether it'd be up front or LB

If we're being honest he hasn't really been given much of a chance, certainly not on the left wing, which would probably be his best position and where nobody has really deserved to nail down a spot (baring in mind Knockaert is far better in the centre).

And if we're being honest he had one bad game at left back before being unceremoniously dropped and not being picked again, barely even getting on the bench.

I don't think anyone is suggesting he is 1st team of Man Utd standard right now but if we are actually being honest, there's not much of argument to say he's not good enough for us, considering he's not been given anywhere near the chances the players ahead of him have. And some of them haven't been all that consistent this season.

You do have to consider why he hasn't been given much of a chance though. Many people questioned why Futacs wasn't given a chance and he's made it very clear why he hasn't been given a chance on virtually every occasion he's played. I'm not saying Jeff is similar to Futacs but the reason he hasn't played is that Pearson feels he has better personnel available to him.

I didn't mean to say he wasn't good enough for the squad I meant he probably doesn't merit a starting spot. I would've liked him to feature on the bench a bit more though as he's a lot more versatile than some players.

Well he's always seemed to have great potential but he is not developing quickly enough to get into our first team. I doubt Man U are signing a complete donkey so you are probably right. Is he going to do a good job for us this season or next though?

This said, I loved watching both him and Dyer on the left wing for the game or two they played there. If it was up to me, I would probably keep him and see how he goes. One thing we are all assuming is that Pearson has a choice in this, as I would imagine Schlupp is delighted to be at United and not keen to come back and fight for a place on the bench.

How long is his contract anyway?

His physical attributes is exactly why with the right coaching he could be great, defensive know-how is something that can be improved through playing more games and learning from top coaches.

Ashley cole who also had the physical attributes was never the best when he was young in the position, but just dramatically improved through experience and great coaching. I'm not saying it is a guarantee he will be great but he has all the right attributes to be so...

You can't play him in three positions. You'd have to pick one for him and then buy players for the other two so no, keeping him will not save us money on three players.

I do accept your point that he'll probably be a lot more valuable in years to come, this isn't the time to sell.

Why, what's he ever done?

We're gonna have to go through a hell of a lot of rearrangement looking at our finances where we're going to have to sell in order to buy as we won't be able to receive anymore owner loans with our stupid wage bill AND stay under FFP, so getting a fee of upto £2.5m for someone who's scored a few goals at Brentford is a great deal.

People need to wake up and smell the coffee of what our wagebill of near £30m whilst the owner's restricted from loaning more £6m is going to do to our promotion prospects next season... Jesus Christ do some basic maths

1 X Schlupp for 2 & a half Chris Wood or Danny Drinkwaters? YES PLEASE, ARE YOU LOT MENTAL.

And I'm a Schlupp fan & would recall him to play at LB immediately, like yesterday!!! As I've banged on about for ages!

Let's nail Keane on for a season long loan & I'd drive Schlupp up there myself if he wasn't already up there.

What worries me is that United clearly see big potential in Jeff... What are they seeing that Pearson isn't?

1.5 mill is nothing for a player who possibly could become their new Evra in years to come.

Interesting...

They saw it in Bebe, it can go either way.

Superb post.

Some people need a big reality check about where we and our finances are.

Don't know why everyone is bringing up Gradel, I think Pearson was right about him. He was never more than decent for us, had one good season at Leeds and he's 25 now. Fair enough his Saint-Etienne team are doing alright at the moment, and he's chipped in a little bit, but the way some of you are going on you'd think he's been pulling up trees in Champions League stadiums the continent over since he left us.

Whats he ever done? well first off he hasn't even been given a proper chance and second off I think he played well when out of position for the time he did play, very well in fact 10 years younger and 10x more composed than Dyer.

1.5 million is nothing to our owners, if we get promoted that will be 1.5% compared to the payment we get which is nothing in comparison.

Man Utd want to buy one of our promising youngsters and yet we didn't give him a fair run in the side.

Waghorn, Vardy, Gallagher, Dyer .... I could go on ..... all get chance after chance though.

Clearly Jeff's face doesn't fit with Pearson.

The guy is just too arrogant and stubborn and this is just another annoying example of his incompetence. Schlupp should be playing left back right now for our first team, not being given away for a pittance.

We have the best defence in the division and some people want to change it?

Oh come on, Gradel tore up the Championship for Leeds in a way no winger has done for us in a very long time. He was a youngster going through a difficult personal time when he was with us, but again, you could see he had potential.

I think you're deluding yourself if you think we couldn't have done with him the way he played for them, or if you think we got a good price for him.
