AyewJoking Posted 5 March 2013 Posted 5 March 2013 The general opinion is that we should be playing hardball. Some issues I have with this:- 1 - Its Jeff Schlupp. Not Ronaldo. We play hardball, they will just walk away 2 - Whats best for the player is the opportunity of a lifetime to go and play at Man Utd. Why should we risk that for the sake of a few more quid? 3 - Man Utd and NP seem to have a good relationship in putting their young talent our way. Drinky, James, RDL, Keane, Cleverley and at Hull NP had a good few. Why put that at risk? I think too many are looking at this the wrong way that we're somehow being done over. My view is that we're doing whats best for Jeff and also whats best for what has been a valuable pipeline of transfer activity. If we had the next Messi playing week in and week out, this situation would not occur. We dont. What we have is a lad with a bit of promise that seems to have stagnated in his preferred position of a striker. We're doing the right thing. because Schlupp going on to have a glittering career at Old Trafford is hardly going to help us. (unless we stick in some appearance based/sell on clauses).
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 5 March 2013 Posted 5 March 2013 Good luck to the lad either way. Hope there is a sell on clause etc
FoxyPV Posted 5 March 2013 Posted 5 March 2013 What worries me is that United clearly see big potential in Jeff... What are they seeing that Pearson isn't? 1.5 mill is nothing for a player who possibly could become their new Evra in years to come. Interesting... Man U have the time, the money and the resources to develop him into whatever they want him to be, whereas we don't. £1.5 million for a youngster is nothing since they paid £7.5m for Bebe and look how he turned out for them.
Jaspa Posted 5 March 2013 Posted 5 March 2013 Wasn't James highly rated there? Until he picked up a number of injuries (knee I think) he was
DanTheFox07 Posted 5 March 2013 Posted 5 March 2013 scream`s to me like when we sold gradel, except Man united are a much bigger club! wonder why pearson never gave him a go up front here, better than the dross we have on the bench!
DeclanMC Posted 5 March 2013 Posted 5 March 2013 Realise Man United have helped us out quite a lot in terms of signings (Drinkwater, De Laet, Keane et al) but in the age of Wilfried Zaha going for £10million plus addons; Jordan Rhodes for £8million; Connor Wickham for £8 million, I can only think we should get more than £1.5million
vandamman Posted 5 March 2013 Posted 5 March 2013 I think this move would be good for Schlupp, I don't think he will realise his potential at Leicester unfortunately. Although, it is frustrating that all other teams in our division seem able to integrate yoofs into their teams and yet we don't. He has all the right attributes, and the right build too. I think he could be a good player, but thats up to him.
cc_star Posted 5 March 2013 Posted 5 March 2013 scream`s to me like when we sold gradel, except Man united are a much bigger club! wonder why pearson never gave him a go up front here, better than the dross we have on the bench! Nothing like it Gradel wasn't really a team player, there was all sorts of talk about unrest because he wanted to be in the first 11 & quite frankly away from rose tinted glasses he wasn't good enough. NP wasn't fussed about selling him, I'm sure if it wasn't for Gradel expecting to be able to pick the team he would have kept him, but when you get the chance to make half a million off a nobody & reinvest in that in something more 'sure' to strengthen the squadhe took it. NP only sanctioned the sale as long as it wasn't to a rival - Hoos & Manderic then went behind his back & sold to a direct rival. Gradel is just something that crops up by people who ignore the reality of the situation at the time and use it as a stick to beat NP with. Schlupp is behind a whole clutch of players with Nugent, Wood, Waghorn & for the rest of this season Kane... and if he finds some form (hopefully on a 30 day loan) Vardy too. As a club we are ably covered for forwards. Reality is - we're going to have to sell to be able to strengthen elsewhere (don't be surprised to see more potentially surprising departures too) but as we're among the strongest in the division up front, other than the romance of an academy player... there are zero reasons to keep Schlupp (except I would play him as first choice LB, but perhaps Schlupp himself specifically wants to be a forward) where if we can re-use the money we can invest in areas of the squad which aren't as strongly represented as we are up front we would be better for it. Seems like potentially good management of resources to me. The success of the deal for me would be in negotiating hefty appearance based add-ons.
Mark Posted 5 March 2013 Posted 5 March 2013 Have we ever sold man u a player Not since 1963. http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/page/PlayerPerClub.php?buyfrom=Manchester+United
Dickov22 Posted 5 March 2013 Posted 5 March 2013 I don't think any of us have seen enough of him to make a judgement on potential worth or ability tbh
21st Century Fox Posted 5 March 2013 Posted 5 March 2013 I don't understand how some people can't see it from United's perspective. Jeff doesn't have; - over 100 appearances like Zaha to be judged on. - 73 goals in 124 appearances that Rhodes had. - even 13 goals in 65 games and appearances at U16, U17, U19 & U21 for England that Wickham had. He's never going to play for England and hasn't been known to scouts within the England set-up since he was 15+. There is nothing to warrant Man Utd paying £4m+ for him. If they buy him for £1.5m+ and it doesn't work out they'll probably be able to recoup about that as they did with Drinkwater, De Laet and James. We should fight for a decent package of add-ons but you can't really compare this deal to any of the aforementioned players.
Sharpe's Fox Posted 5 March 2013 Posted 5 March 2013 Back up left back, Schmack up schmeft back. We could buy a proper defender with that money! I'm sure there's a left footed defender somewhere in the youth squad that could come up and cover Konch.

Guest kristianity77 Posted 5 March 2013 Posted 5 March 2013 Tata Schlupp. We've gotten where we are without him so in that respect we cant miss what we've hardly ever seen. And we get 1.5 mill in the bank as a bonus to spend in the summer towards someone who might get more first team action. Win win situation
tylesta Posted 5 March 2013 Posted 5 March 2013 kind of a pointless asking how much it will cost to fill 3 positions, he can only play in 1 poition at a time regardless of how good he is, therefore the other positions require players anyway. from the bench schlupp can cover 3 postions no other player on our bench can cover that many postions
dynamark Posted 5 March 2013 Posted 5 March 2013 Id much rather clear out a few others and keep JS just listened to sven on RL and gotta give the guy a bit of respect. No doubt in my mind Jeff Schlupp will be a premiership standard player only need to watch the guy as a fairly raw youngster.Just a question of which club he ends up awith
Guest Col city fan Posted 5 March 2013 Posted 5 March 2013 I'm still shocked that so many would willingly sell possibly our brightest young talent, with real potential IMO, for such a paltry fee in today's market.
tylesta Posted 5 March 2013 Posted 5 March 2013 Agree with this. Comparing him with Zaha is ridiculous. Zaha is a 1st teamer for more than a season scoring goals. max gradel scored goals and was a first teamer at leeds yet we let him go for £250k and he scored more goals in 40 games than what zaha scored in 100 plus for palace. leeds sold him cheap as

I understand what you're saying Col but why are u concerned about the fee?If its just that people don't want us to sell Schlupp I could understand but the fee shouldn't really make a difference to the fans. Our owners are willing to purchase players if its what the manager wants so its not as if we have to sell to buy

I just have a feeling he's gonna become very good.

I just have a feeling he's gonna become very good. He has potential, but he hasn't really done anything special imo. I really like the guy and think he would've been our next LB if Konchesky was to leave but wouldn't be able to put a price on him. A straight swap for Keane would do very nicely for me!What do United want him for out of interest, As a forward or a left back?
jamesmilner Posted 5 March 2013 Posted 5 March 2013 why has it taken manu so long to react ? why hasnt lcfc used the word trial ? why hasnt the word fee , transfer , £1.5 mill , add ons never been mentioned by both clubs ? why is there 6 weeks of auditing discussions for eppp to reach prem status as we failed last time with schlupp at a prem team the best at that, showing our alliance with a top prem team ? transfer ? dont think so ? why did pearson and i quote say, he wouldnt be surprised to see jeff involved in the leeds game ? newspapers tell lies !! he might sign , but the words we need to hear to believe it have not been uttered once by either club.
sdb Posted 5 March 2013 Posted 5 March 2013 I don't think any of us have seen enough of him to make a judgement on potential worth or ability tbh 20+ appearances. At least half a dozen starts and he's looked really, really composed, out of position too. I know it's not loads but i've seen more than enough to suggest he'll be a Premier League player. Utd obviously have too. I'm really bothered by this. Pittance too.
