foxfanazer Posted 29 March 2013 Posted 29 March 2013 If true, which I expect it is then that is going way too far. I really don't like the guy but he doesn't deserve that
Leicester Lass Posted 29 March 2013 Posted 29 March 2013 I honestly can't believe how much of a big deal has been made about this. All from a pathetic, sensationalised column in the Mirror by Ollie Holt. Chant is distasteful, certainly, but racist? Do me a favour. Yet again, travelling England fans are an easy target though, given their reputation.
Leicester Lass Posted 29 March 2013 Posted 29 March 2013 From Rio's twitter: @rioferdy5: You expect+accept banter from fans on the terraces as its part of what makes the game great, but racism is not banter,& from ya own fans. WOW

Yet again, travelling England fans are an easy target though, given their reputation. They don't have a reputation anymore though. Not really. The members club is incredibly strict on who it allows in. I know of people kicked aout and who have had to appeal if they got a police caution for pissing in the street on a Saturday night in their home town. We're widely accepted as some of the best behaved fans in world now. A massive change since Euro 2000. Yes the chant is distasteful and you'd never hear me sing anything bad about an England or Leicester player, but racist? Not at all.

I meant reputation that the media like to portray rather than anything. There's still a stigma attached to travelling England fans, and the press can't wait to jump on any slight hint of a story to justify their opinion of football fans.

I'm surprised you managed to make sense of my last post, I can't be bothered editing it though No you're right but I think the majority of journalists do hold us in high regard. It's just a minority jumping on any tiny little thing. The main chant out in Kiev last year was ?f off sol Campbell we'll do what we want' why hasn't that been reported by these divvys in suits? I think each one of us could name far more serious incidents of obvious racism from other countries fans that go unreported. I'm surprised at Rio playing the race card himself though. Unless he's been informed, rightly or wrongly, of other chants that night which I highly doubt
Leicester Lass Posted 29 March 2013 Posted 29 March 2013 He's now saying this: @rioferdy5: Let's not jump to conclusions + assume though as it might just have been banter. We'll see after the investigation. Despite already jumping to conclusions in his previous tweet. Such an idiot.
yorkie1999 Posted 29 March 2013 Posted 29 March 2013 Just what was being sung, because the only song i know about bonfires is not really racist.
Super_horns Posted 29 March 2013 Posted 29 March 2013 Abusive more than racist...and your never going to stop those sort of songs being sung! Much worse out there with fans signing about personal issues or major disasters where people have died...
Captain... Posted 29 March 2013 Posted 29 March 2013 I'm assuming it was a variation on the man united chant, 'build a bonfire, build a bonfire, put the scousers on the top,... ..., and burn the fvcking lot' certainly not racist, how can any song about Rio and Anton be racist, unless the Ferdinand brothers are now a whole separate race, which would make sense there has always been something slightly sub human about those two.

Fox92 Posted 29 March 2013 Posted 29 March 2013 A massive deal made out of nothing, again. All this 'racism' stuff is going too far now. But when Ferdinand calls Cole something, he gets away with a small fine. Can't have it both ways. Can't stand Rio Ferdinand at all.
Guest MattP Posted 29 March 2013 Posted 29 March 2013 Erm, have I missed something? Wheres the racism?
purpleronnie Posted 29 March 2013 Posted 29 March 2013 That song has been sung about white players, its not just aimed at black players, I guess it can conjure up certain images of perhaps lynchings from times gone past (although not here), I suppose theres an arguement is there any need for songs that have violence as its theme....whether its a racist chant or not. To me its another OTT reaction by people who like the sound of their own voice. I've heard similiar chants to this one in the USA where you'd think a reaction would be more likely due to their past but no-one seems to mind.
whoareyaaa Posted 29 March 2013 Posted 29 March 2013 Rio is a complete muppet... He calls Ashley Cole a choc-ice and then crys when a song which ain't even racist is sung at him. What a complete and utter bellend. Just retire from England its really that simple, put this shit under the carpet and move on.
Fox92 Posted 29 March 2013 Posted 29 March 2013 Wouldn't want him anywhere near my club if I was manager.
Corky Posted 29 March 2013 Posted 29 March 2013 I hadn't heard of a racist element to the chants. It's not particularly tasteful and won't look great if he plays for the national team again but as Captain said it's a variation on the Man Utd (and Forest) chants that have been aired before.
Jordan Posted 29 March 2013 Posted 29 March 2013 If there is no racial motivation behind the chants, then wtf does Anton have to do with Rio not playing this week? That's all about the Terry incident, and it appears some England fans are still bitter about it. "You know what you are, you know what you are, Rio Ferdinand, you know what you are..." Why don't England fans stop being passive-aggressive and just say what he is? Is he a cvnt? Or, to borrow a phrase from Terry, is he a "****ing black cvnt?" While the racism in these chants can only be determined by how one interprets the innuendo in them, the tastelessness of them is without doubt. Oh, but it's just "banter."
Guest MattP Posted 29 March 2013 Posted 29 March 2013 Wtf has the rio you know what you are chants got to do anything? That was Chelsea fans. Again how does anyone interpret this as racist? Im all ears That last line isnt directed at the deaf.

Im all ears That last line isnt directed at the deaf. How dare you be racist towards our own Gary Lineker?! You should be fvcking ashamed, ban this sick filth now mods!
AdamN Posted 29 March 2013 Posted 29 March 2013 Rio is a complete muppet... He calls Ashley Cole a choc-ice and then crys when a song which ain't even racist is sung at him. What a complete and utter bellend. Just retire from England its really that simple, put this shit under the carpet and move on. While he maybe as thick as two short planks, I accept his explanation of what he meant by 'choc ice', and I don't believe there was any racial motivation behind the insult. That said, he should therefore know exactly how things can be misinterpreted, and shouldn't be so quick to jump to conclusions, especially about something that has absolutely no evidence of racism (assuming it's the song we think was sang). The man's a twat.
Dan Posted 29 March 2013 Posted 29 March 2013 So basically, we might be getting done for a chant that wasn't even racist, whilst Serbia get a minimal 'punishment' for large sections of their fans making monkey noises at Danny Rose after we'd scored, at the same time he gets banned for retaliating? I don't give a shit if I sound biased but anyone who thinks this lot haven't got something against England are kidding themselves. Genuinely would cheer if their headquarters were bombed.
