Ben Marshall being booed & apologises

Recommended Posts

can't believe anyone on here making excuses for him. all the fans were trying to do in that corner were trying to encourage him to get on with the corner when 2 -0 down. Just imagine players with passion in that positon -beckham, tevez, etc they would have sprinted there and waved their arms to pump the fans up. the bloke should apolgise asap or put in a transfer request

We weren't having a dig, a few fans said hurry up - and rightly so, we were losing 2-0!!

He has (in my opinion) no right to tell the fans 'where to go'. We pay his wages, and without the fans there would be no club.

He was probably thinking where has it all gone wrong this season like the rest of us!

If someone who couldnt do my job told me I was shit or come on your being slow etc I'd probably tell them where to go as well. I really dont care what Marshall did hes bound to feel like shit when everyones having a dig at him.

So, if you sold a product, and the customers didn't like it, you wouldn't improve the product? Instead, you'd tell the customers where to go? You wouldn't be in business very long doing that.

He took ages to take the corner, he showed no urgency at all!

I don't pay good money to see an over paid footballer telling us fans to **** off!

But tbh, most of our fans were great today, only a select few let us down

Good. Most of our fans, especially a sizeable chunk of the more vocal ones are cvnts

Lovely language, do you kiss your mum with that mouth.

Leicester till I die, I doubt veryuch that Marshall, Pearson and many of the other players will give a damn once they leave us.

So, you do your job badly, your boss, the customer, or your colleague, says you need to do better. You tell them where to go... you wont be in a job for very long doing that.

Need me to draw a picture for you?

The thing that irritates the hell out of me is that many of us would give our left bollock to play for Leicester. So Marshall can F**k off if that's how he wants to act to the fans. No fans, no club, there would be no Thais investing and no big pay packet for the players. He needs to show a bit of respect for the people that ultimately pay his wages. If he can't take a bit of stick then he's never going to be that good anyway.I remember seing beckham before wembley and the fans singing Posh spice takes it up the **** and he had a blinder.

And pearsons don't like it don't come comment. Well what's to like right now. Brighton could be a 6 pointer now do we really want to keep it as it is and hope things change or make a change immediately. The players need a rocket up their A**** and a change is the only way that's going to happen. NP thanks for the League one season and the playoffs but time to go.

wasn't that against chelsea at stamford bridge? didn't he silence them later on?

I was stood at the back in the middle, to the left there was a group of a dozen or so 'morons' being lead by one particularly loud mouthed one who were chanting against the team for most of the game, as well as for Marshall to be sent off!!

If that was his reaction then I dont blame him, I was actually embarrised to be a Leicester fan today.

FYI it wasn't the same fans who were singing his song, that was us in the middle and the ones to the right.

It was just this minority who were spoiling it. If thats their attitude, then they can F**k off. We don't need them, it hardly helps the players confidence which is fragile at best does it?

Fragile?

They are paid thousands of pounds a week to kick a ball around while the country's economy is in the gutter.

Football fans have been fickle ever since the game was invented. It shouldnt be a surprise to anyone to get booed, let alone after such a terrible run.

If you can't handle being told to do your job by people who are paying good money to watch your run about, you shouldnt be playing the game.

You've completely ignored the lead up to the incident. Fans have a right to boo Marshall if he's slowly jogging to get the ball when we're 2-0 down and when he tells the 2,400 fans who have travelled to Barnsley to "**** off."

Posted

We were 2-0 down, we'd had three inswinging corners in quick succession, Marshall took them and failed to beat the first man every time. On the third time, there was a huge groan from the fans right behind the goal.

We'd got the next corner on the counter attack, so he had to run a way for it. He was only jogging for the ball, so the fans were shouting at him to hurry up, as you do. He responded by clearly telling the fans to "**** off", along with several other things. He took the corner, again failing to beat the first man, and when he was lining up the resulting throw in, there were huge boos from our end. He then didn't really put his foot in for the rest of the match, there was a small break out of his song but nothing much.

I was there, and expect some kind of apology. Stupid and disgraceful.

"Team full of Schmeichel's, we want a team full of Schmeichel's..."

Pretty much this, if Marshall hadn't said anything then no-one would be saying anything about it. I don't get how hard it was for him to hurry up, just a little bit.

I was near the back so couldn't really see what he said but he certainly stared the fans out, which is probably when he told them to "**** off", nothing malicious was said around me and there was no real need for Marshall to react how he did.

In all fairness to both sides of the booing saga:

In Marshall's defence, when he's trying to get his side back into the game (which by today's dire standards, was beyond them), nothing really came off for him or for any of his team, be it their own making.

In the fans' defence, they are more than entitled to get Marshall to hurry up and take the set piece. Something tells that it was either the general barrage of noise being thrown his way or something one fan said that caused him to suddenly fire expletives at his own fans, who may I add, are more than entitled to share opinions if one or players are not pulling their weight.

From what I gather, Ben took too long coming forward to take the corner, practically jogging over with time ticking away. Fans get agitated and vent their frustrations at him, he gets annoyed for whatever fires off a short expletive phrase (so this could have been provoked by fans getting on his back), which in turn gets the fans wound up further. This would explain the sound booing he received when he was assigned to take a thrown in the attacking third. The fans did attempt to get off his back by doing the old "Na-na-na-na-na Ben Marshall" chant but by then, the damage has been done on both sides. I heard fans behind shouting at him to "f*** off to West Brom", a tad harsh, but in the heat of the moment, seemed like an appropriate thing to say at the time.

I digress, I, like many other fans were not at all amused with his virtual inability to beat the first man on a corner set piece, but will effortlessly launch a thrown on, or near, the penalty spot. Me, and probably several others, will feel that this should be the other way round yes? Let's not beat about the bush, the man's got the confidence of a fieldmouse at the moment, fans getting on his back every time he is on the pitch will not be helping, no matter what the situation, even he has to hold himself partially responsible. I say partially, as most of the players today were having lapses from start to finish.

But this may be the moment when the last straw-worth of frustration breaks Marshall's back, and will start looking elsewhere. West Brom must be licking their lips with delight, not to mention relief that Wood is failing to score recently as well.

Yes, fragile. The team are bound to be feeling the pressure, especially the younger ones who havn't experienced a rough patch like this before. We missed Wes today and his influence. Nobody was taking his role and taking charge.

I'm fed up of hearing this arguement that they're paid thousands each week, they're still humans. They'll still have confidence issues like the rest of us, but the fact is when you've got idiots chanting against you or the team, its not gonna help is it?

Then don't play the game. Quit and go wait tables.

He is a footballer, people pay money for him to play football. The fans are his customers. If he isn't playing well, they will let him know. The game hasn't all of a sudden changed and fans have been introduced.

If he isn't up to it he needs to be playing for the youth team until he has grown up and realizes he has to earn his money.

I am not condoning the acts of the moronic "fans" at the back of the stand today, they can't help being a bit simple. And the majority of fans with half a brain got behind the team for most of the game today.

However, a cocky, young player who has only been wearing the shirt for a year who has come on as a sub and failed to beat the 1st man putting in a corner (which he should be good at, being a winger) over 3 or 4 times who strolls 50 yards over to the corner flag when we're 2-0 down deserves to get a negative reaction from the fans. And it was all 2000 fans who reacted, not just a minority. His response to this was to tell all the fans to **** off, which then provoked some boos and gestures towards him. Am sorry, but Ben Marshall is a guy who being a pro footballer has completely gone to his head and is far from being the "young, hungry" player who Pearson tries to build his team upon.

I'll never forgive his reaction, it was pure cocky petulence!

And a player who was up for it would have sprinted over to take it and geed the fans up while doing so- we're missing the Iain Hume, Steve Howard sort of effort and passion at the moment!!

Yes! Exactly! You don't have to run around like a chicken with your head cut off, but look like you have some urgency and that you want to get stuck in and take the game to the opposition and win.

Posted

The sentiment was understandable from the fans but the target was wrong. The first half team lost the game. Marshall actually looked ok on the ball and tried to get things going.

It was frustration on both sides, let it blow over.

Posted

Pretty poor behaviour from Marshall tbh. To casually saunter over to take the corner when we're running out of time and 2-0 down was always going to wind us up. To tell us to fvck off when he was being told to hurry was pretty shameful.

I didn't agree with the "fvck of Marshall" chants that followed though. Bit too much that
