Larry_LCFC Posted 20 April 2013 Posted 20 April 2013 No clean sheet in 12 games. 16 goals conceded since the last one which was the 3-0 win against Blackburn on February 26th. Something tells me our we are going nowhere with this defence. We are pissing goals like its going out of fashion. Luckily for us we are scoring aswell. Thoughts?
Simmo86 Posted 20 April 2013 Posted 20 April 2013 It has been shit recently but overall our defensive record is very good
MooseBreath Posted 20 April 2013 Posted 20 April 2013 We need at least two and probably three new defenders for next season. Maybe even four if we fail to keep hold of Morgan. Great team building, Nige. Really sorting us out for the future.
Tielemans63 Posted 20 April 2013 Posted 20 April 2013 Wes' drinking and lack of sleep could be a factor...
Guest Col city fan Posted 20 April 2013 Posted 20 April 2013 I'm unsure about Keane. These are BIG games for the club. Is he good enough YET to take it on board? It still surprises me Nige sent SSL on loan at present.
shiv Posted 20 April 2013 Posted 20 April 2013 Wes' drinking and lack of sleep could be a factor... Yeah. When I drink and drive I still feel the effects a year later too...
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 20 April 2013 Posted 20 April 2013 Its set piece defending which is a huge problem. Every time we give one a way looks like we'll concede. Did again today, and Palace had numerous chances from them again today scoring one and hitting the bar. Its like we don't work on these things under NP or he is too clueless to see it. Losing more and more faith in him. Ball watching too often
ADK Posted 20 April 2013 Posted 20 April 2013 To be honest 16 in 12 isnt THAT bad. I believe Palace Bolton and Forest all have worse averages over the whole season.
kingfox Posted 20 April 2013 Posted 20 April 2013 De Laet isn't good enough, you can have all the skill and pace you want going forward, but defensively he isn't good enough, like I said when we signed him. He has played really well at times don't get me wrong, but when he plays bad he stands out like a sore thumb, because he can be that poor at times. Get's beaten too easily, and looks like a rabbit caught in headlights sometimes, against Bolton he seemed absolutely knackered and was running around like he was about to collapse to the floor, and was very lucky not to give a penalty away in the remaining seconds. He didn't sound very good today either, which is no surprise considering the attacking threats Palace have. Keane has been great, and a real prospect for the future, but he tends to struggle sometimes and I think the opposition look at him as a weak point in our side, when we aren't playing well, he gets beaten in the air by physical and tall strikers, he also tends to be pushed around a bit too easily by yet again physical strikers. Of course many of us didn't see today's match, but it wouldn't surprise me if Murray and Wilbraham won a lot of headers against him today. Morgan is key, Morgan is our captain and we need him to stay, definitely player of the season for me. We need to keep hold of him, and I believe we will, if we don't it will be hard to find a better replacement. Konchesky was so consistent last season, this season he has gone down hill slightly, he still puts in some good performances, but he isn't as good as he was last season. I think he is getting passed it now, and we are crying out for a new left-back, Konchesky would be useful as back up.
Larry_LCFC Posted 20 April 2013 Author Posted 20 April 2013 To be honest 16 in 12 isnt THAT bad. I believe Palace Bolton and Forest all have worse averages over the whole season. It is when you see that we have only won 1 out of those 12 games
weller7 Posted 20 April 2013 Posted 20 April 2013 For me we just don't seem dominant enough in the air Cardiff city's Mark Hudson wins everything , Keane is nowhere near tall or enough for a central defender .
connorlcfc Posted 20 April 2013 Posted 20 April 2013 don't think keane is the answer he is too clumsy becoming a little bit of a donkey , inexperience shows in him he gives away silly fouls when he doesn't need to
undey Posted 20 April 2013 Posted 20 April 2013 I think he is getting passed it now, and we are crying out for a new left-back, Konchesky would be useful as back up. SCHLUPP? Evidently not a striker..
kingfox Posted 20 April 2013 Posted 20 April 2013 SCHLUPP? Evidently not a striker.. Nah, we need an out to out left-back. Maybe Adam Smith who's on loan at Millwall, or someone like Aaron Cresswell.
weller7 Posted 20 April 2013 Posted 20 April 2013 Agreed Tottenhams Adam Smith is a very good fullback
Fox92 Posted 20 April 2013 Posted 20 April 2013 Said in the summer we need a new left full back. I still stand by that. Not sure about De Laet... But I rate Morgan and Moore. Don't rate Whitbread. Do think St Ledger is a decent player, also.
stillwater Posted 20 April 2013 Posted 20 April 2013 Does make me wonder why we sent SSL out on loan, and have a young lad from Utd taking his place? Also why keep whitbread, we never play him so why ain't he out on loan? Apart from a couple of purple patches the season has been a joke, don't think NP has built at all, more like dismantle
marbelladave Posted 20 April 2013 Posted 20 April 2013 Interesting. I have expressed reservations about our back 5 all season and been roundly called on it, suddenly it is flavour of the day. Personally I think our players are perfectly capable championship defenders, the problem, as far as I can see, is organisation and our lack of dominance in the box. This has been the case pretty much all season but our ability to defend as a team has been exceptional, our midfield and forward players have kept most sides at arms length, hence our fine defensive record. The giveaway is our chronic inability to defend set pieces, particularly corners, organisation, organisation, organisation!
Fatty Arbuckle Posted 20 April 2013 Posted 20 April 2013 For me we just don't seem dominant enough in the air Cardiff city's Mark Hudson wins everything , Keane is nowhere near tall or enough for a central defender . This. What I'd give to go back a few years. As much as I think Morgan has been far and away our best player this season, I really think a partnership of Hobbs and Brown (from back then) would do wonders in this run in.
Kitchandro Posted 20 April 2013 Posted 20 April 2013 SCHLUPP? Evidently not a striker.. Evidently not a full back either.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 20 April 2013 Posted 20 April 2013 I'm unsure about Keane. These are BIG games for the club. Is he good enough YET to take it on board? It still surprises me Nige sent SSL on loan at present. Another one of Nige's mistakes this season IMO
Father Ted Posted 20 April 2013 Posted 20 April 2013 Keane and Konchesky have cost us 20 points this season I reckon. Neither have been or are good enough for a side with Premier League aspirations.

Callabinho Posted 20 April 2013 Posted 20 April 2013 De laet's anticipation is horrible! And his passing sometimes bizarre.
Babylon Posted 20 April 2013 Posted 20 April 2013 Anyone would think we hadn't let in two less than the champions!!!!!!!!! They aren't perfect, set pieces are shite... But Jesus give em a break. As for shocking record, it's not shocking at all really, in fact it's slightly above average for this league. 1.33 goals per game would have you about 8th in the average GPG list over the whole season. And that's taking a sample from our worst run of form this year. We're the only team in the league to not let in more than two goals. Nobody else is even close all having conceded 3 goal or more at least 4 times. We have the 3rd best defence over the season.
