So many people defending this action. It makes me more sick of football.

Arrogant, overpaid morons who think they can do whatever they like, whenever they like. There's too much money and not enough player control in the game nowadays. It's a shame that the refs or the FA are not in a position to act believing that the game needs these prima donnas.

Get him out of the game and then get to work on real respect in the game - book players for dissent and get them to obey refs without question.

Still when you see Millwall fans acting like they did last week maybe the whole sport and "culture" needs to be looked at again.

The police absolutely should be involved.

BITING is not "part of the game". When a player walks onto the pitch they are fully aware of the risks that playing football brings. Poor or mistimed tackles can (accidentally or otherwise) lead to leg breaks and other serious injuries.

Biting somebody is not even remotely the same. The ball wasn't even in the frame. The game happened to be going on at the same time, but the assault committed by Suarez had absolutely nothing to do with the fact that a football match was being played, much like Ferguson's headbutt back in 1993. It was an act of brutality which had nothing to do with football and should be seen in that light.

Edit: I would add that Suarez is a repeat offender when it comes to doing this, an offence that is essentially ABH. At what point are people going to realise that this guy is a complete menace, and no length of suspension will make him change.

But neither is punching kicking, headbutting, spitting, but they rarely get taken any further, it was done in the heat of the moment as the players tussled.

Nobody is defending Suarez, at least not in any comment I have read, what people don't want is this being turned into anything more serious than it is, he shouldn't be arrested, or sent to jail, he should be punished as is stated in the rules of the game, if it is deemed he should get a harsher sentence as it is not the first time he has bitten someone, fair enough, should he punished further because he is Suarez and has a reputation of being a cheat and a diver and the papers lover stirring all this shit up, no.

He is not the first player to bite someone and won't be the last, and if I'm completely honest I'd rather be bitten than punched or headbutted.

Yeah, one incident should definitely outweigh years of good behaviour by British football fans at home and abroad.

It's not even the first this year.

One incident is still too many though...

No...it is not. But our media only enhances the problem.

Look at the spurs fans who were attacked by armed fans in lazio, we never have anything like that over here.

We have.

but this is getting off the point.

Suarez should be banned for several years for biting. it's unacceptable. A 2 or 3 game ban says that it's fine for people to bite others on the pitch. It could turn into a vampire league.

How is punishing him saying it is fine to bite people?

3 or 4 matches says that it's perfectly acceptable.

Did you ever get detention at school? Did you find that stopped you doing what you were doing? Same principle.

3 or 4 matches says it is the same as violent conduct, it is violent conduct, if they deem it is severe enough to warrant a 7 or 10 match ban fair enough, but that is for the FA to decide and not the media.

Yes detentions did stop me doing what I was doing.

Scousers will do the usual. Close ranks convince themselves it was someone elses fault and try and make Luis look like the victim in it.

The donation going to the Hillsboro fund puts him back as the hero of the piece.

We're getting bogged down with irrelevant points here.

Firstly, you can say it's 'in the heat of the moment' but of all the things I'd ever consider doing to a person when they had the nerve to concede a corner, biting them is not one of them. The biting, to me, suggests the bloke is not sane. That is not just a heat of the moment swing, it's pretty much unprovoked minor-cannibalism. And 'the heat of the moment' will not get me off if I headbutt or kick a bloke in the street.

Secondly, having said that, he's not drawn blood, there is no lasting damage, saying that should be a criminal offence is a bit ridiculous. I'm not saying that because it was on the pitch, or because it was in the heat of the moment, I'm saying that because it's not really ABH, is it? If somebody bit me like that on the street I'd probably chin them, I wouldn't call the cops. In fact, the only reason he should get a lengthy ban is because he has a history of misdemeanors in the game. Racism, diving, handballing, and now biting (apologies if I've missed one).

Thirdly, this has nothing to do with fan violence. No idea why that was brought up.

Spot on.

No matter how angry I have got I've never thought about sinking my teeth into someone, it's quite incredible. He is an animal and needs serious help.

Just like Defoe...

Not excusing what he did, but just because you wouldn't do it doesn't make him an animal or a cannibal ffs. It was a stupid thing to do, and he will be punished, but lets not make more of this than there is.

Except you are and continue to excuse what he did.

This isn't normal behaviour.

The cannibal comment was a bit tongue in cheek.

You are excusing what he did somewhat with this heat of the moment stuff. That is not what you do in the heat of the moment (besides, what moment? Nothing happened). Unless you're crazy.

Not excusing anything he should be punished, but calling him an animal is wrong, they were tussling they had their hands on each other and having a bit of a shove, Suarez reacted and bit him, no different to punching someone except he used his teeth.

Maybe he could stab him next time? No different than kicking him except he used a knife?

There is reason why if a boxer bites someone after punching him 150 times he gets dq'ed and a long ban.

Why are people relating biting with stabbing, or more serious attacks, it wasn't, nor was it like Tyson biting someone's ear off, he didn't even break the skin, I'd rather have someone bite me like Suarez did than punch, kick or headbutt me.

What I object to is the trial by media and the way people are making such a big deal out of it, calling him to be thrown out of football and putting pressure on the FA to hand out a more severe punishment, I get the feeling if it was anyone other than Suarez then people wouldn't be so quick to get worked up.

You're making less than there is.

It's football and he bit a player!!

It wasn't sunday dinner.

Of course it's diffeent to punching someone - which also should be more than a 3 match ban. A professional foul gets that.

He won't play again this season.

This season is over. His career should be.
