StanSP Posted 24 April 2013 Posted 24 April 2013 Bit off topic but whilst on the subject of players losing it, has anybody seen the video of Pepe against Getafe? Can't upload it but he goes crazy! I think 10 games is about right to be honest. Really poor example to youngsters watching the game Yeah kicked the guy on his back and the back of the head, while the player was down, right? Pepe also got 10 games for that. Both are dirty players, Pepe probably more so. I think this 10 match ban for Suarez is right. It's long enough, in my opinion.

Also punched a player that pushed him after the challenge/attack
Carl the Llama Posted 24 April 2013 Posted 24 April 2013 It's effectively a 6-game ban though really, isn't it? Liverpool have sweet f all to play for in the next 4 PL games so being banned for them is hardly that big a problem.
marko Posted 24 April 2013 Posted 24 April 2013 Hopefully Liverpool will grab the moral high-ground now by extending the Suarez ban by 2 games to 12 with their own disciplinary action. More chance of Mitch taking a 5-for in the first Ashes test.

Edit: Why doesn't that embed? It always used to?

Can't upload it but he goes crazy! I think 10 games is about right to be honest. Really poor example to youngsters watching the game Just seen that....what's wrong with the man?! The very worst that the Getafe player could be accused of is going down a bit easy looking for a penalty...though Pepe does push him. He then proceeds to kick the bloke twice on the floor with no provocation, then gets involved with someone else. One of the most inexplicable instances of "red mist" that I've ever seen... Can only assume something else happened earlier to wind him up. As for Suarez, is he the sort of hungry player that NP could be looking for?
MooseBreath Posted 24 April 2013 Posted 24 April 2013 I think ten games is right, but the contrast to Defoe does show up the fa as a bunch of farcical parasites yet again. Has there ever been an organisation ran with such staggering routine incompetence as the fa?

MC Prussian Posted 24 April 2013 Posted 24 April 2013 A ten-game match ban is a bit harsh. I'd rather see him getting fined for that bite and having to do community service. But let's just say the FA needed a desperate scapegoat they could use to cover up their previous negligence in such matters.
Fox92 Posted 24 April 2013 Posted 24 April 2013 I'm sure FA change rules for certain clubs/players. I know what Suarez did was bad, but I remember when Rooney elbowed McCarthy off of the ball, around his head area (just as bad as biting someone imo) and was let off.

It's been happening for years: when Roy Keane deliberately stamped on Alf-Inge Haaland - and effectively finished his playing career - he got off initially with a three-match ban. It was only when he wrote about it in his biography that the FA punished him properly.

Why? he loves playing football so this should teach him a lesson. he's not in a ****ing zoo and its not the first time hes done it. Tackles, elbows are part of the game.

Can't upload it but he goes crazy! I think 10 games is about right to be honest. Really poor example to youngsters watching the game I'm not saying the guy isn't a cheating thug but in fairness, the other bloke dives, so he got what he deserved IMO. Always enjoy watching justice dished out on the field.

Can only assume something else happened earlier to wind him up. As for Suarez, is he the sort of hungry player that NP could be looking for? It's a blatant dive. It's an overreaction considering everyone does it over there, Pepe as well, but I can understand someone losing it over that more than a mistimed tackle or a cynical foul. And players are always throwing girly fits over those.
Kitchandro Posted 24 April 2013 Posted 24 April 2013 If not then it is a bit excessive, racism, diving, cheating etc is not really related to violence so it should be based solely on the incident, which when compared to Defoe, who bit someone and got nothing, or Ben Thatcher's elbow, 8 matches, Fellani's headbutt 3 matches, Barton punching Pederson 3 matches, it sees excessive. If they did take the Ajax bite into account then it should be about 10 as that was a 7 match ban, so it should be more. But you protested that these incidents should be categorised as on pitch offences rather than how they would be percieved by law on the street. Therefore you would have to take into account his cheating and racism as they were done on the pitch, and were dealt with by the FA. You could compare it to other bans but then you'd have to delve into whether they were harsh/lenient as well. For example A lot of people agree Fellaini should have had way more than a 3 game ban. It's the inconsistency which makes it hard to judge whether the ban is fair or not. Oh well, if he learns his lesson it won't matter
Guest MattP Posted 24 April 2013 Posted 24 April 2013 Are Liverpool doing a charity single, vigil or minute silence for this at the weekend?

Guest Posted 25 April 2013 Posted 25 April 2013 Does he actually lose his wages for the time he is banned? Still I reckon the next drama teacher who puts his tongue down a 14 year olds throat in a heat of the moment Romeo and Juliet scene will be happy to know that he's only going to have to NOT go to school and teach for 10 lessons. Suarez should have been banned for life and football begin it's clear up.

marko Posted 25 April 2013 Posted 25 April 2013 Brendan "shocked and bitterly disappointed". Quelle surprise. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22295309
Super_horns Posted 25 April 2013 Posted 25 April 2013 It's effectively a 6-game ban though really, isn't it? Liverpool have sweet f all to play for in the next 4 PL games so being banned for them is hardly that big a problem. I think that is why they are appealing..hoping to get it cut to 4/5 so it doesn't really affect them. Be interesting to see how this ban might compare against one for spitting/stamping etc which the FA might have to deal with in the future...
Grewks Posted 25 April 2013 Posted 25 April 2013 About right imo. This is the second time he has done this offence, and was not long ago he was charged and banned due to racism, so the length of games he will miss had to be longer than the previous 2 offences.
RobHawk Posted 25 April 2013 Posted 25 April 2013 Think its a bit harsh personally! What he did seemed unbelivable and completely studpid but no real harm was done! I've seen alot worse things happen on a football pitch leaving much worse injuries that go unpunished. Apparently they couldn't take his 1st biting incident into account so that should not be considered and his ban for racism is a completely different situation! I think 6 game ban would have been a fairer ban and still sent the message. Will probably be reduced after an appeal in true FA fashion! I doubt a 10 game ban would have been given if one of the PL's poster boys like RVP had of done the same thing! The FA are useless though and we all know it!
