I used to think that the Sun was a massive spaceship consisting of a 25m thick titanium shell - sort of like the Death Star on George Lucas' smash hit movie Star Wars. And I used to think that God was behind the controls inside, with a shield of fire for protection.

I've since learned that that thought was blasphemous, and I now know The Truth. Apparently.

I'm not even sure when you're being serious or not any more :P

Forget the bible - what's in you?

Belief in my own existence.

Even a god needs to sleep,

G'night my creations, g'night

Take a walk outside.... watch the blackbird making its nest, see the spider catching greenfly in its web, look at the snail on your wheelie bin, scrape the mold from your Cheddar cheese, smell the daffodils, see the rabbit with mitsy, watch the carp sucking for air when landed by the fisherman.....

Humanity is not the be all and end all.

God didnt create man, man created god.

I personally don't believe there is a God. Certainly not one who is all-knowing and all-powerful. I don't have a problem with people who say they think there is something, but don't really have a religion.

Those who are strongly religious irritate me, especially those who take the bible or their own book literally. The bible, torah, Quran, etc are just fairy tales.

Good thread, but I've got to get a pre-event dig in.

I can't wait to see the Satanists and Heathens faces when Jesus rolls back in on a UFO. I will be laughing like a nutter!

That's because you are one.

No one can answer this question. What is a more relevant question, assuming there is a God is do organised religions provide a truthful, honest and humble representation of their God.

Yes... My avatar is a picture of him. He actually walked this earth a short while, between 1940 and 1980

Seriously though, I voted yes. I'm not one of religion, and some of the things I've done in my life go against it, but I do believe in God. I suppose it's just a comfort, as I'd like to think there is a decent afterlife (we don't just lie in a grave forever spiritually).

Not that I'm a believer, surely that's down to the human race, there's sufficient food to feed everyone if they chose to do so.

well, yes.. but, as he is in control, then surely either he makes better humans, or kills the baduns early on. (I accept this could shorten my life signifcantly) but if you are omnipotent you just sort the shit out! :)

My gut feeling is no. But I don't know, everyone can only really guess. So I put not on either side.

When I say God I should point out I mean a higher power, a creator, perhaps (or maybe more than one). I certainly do not think the specifics of the bible or any religious book are anything more than a story. One of them could be right, but it would be a coincidence of epic proportions.

I categorically don't believe in religion. However, as to whether there is some sort of 'higher power', no-one can answer, so while I'm 99% sure, I can't say for certain there is no form of 'God'.

Another question; if there was a God, why should we be worshipping him?

Because he has a huge ego and if we don't we aren't allowed into heaven.

I always thought that was the jist of religious books anyway :)
