RonnieTodger Posted 22 May 2013 Posted 22 May 2013 Passed 1st time 5 minors. People who fail the theory I vaguely know someone that's still at that stage, having failed 16 times! God knows how he affords it and why he carries on . Although, I only did about 8 lessons, then stopped until I got a job. Will start up again in the summer, but even if I do pass - my apprenticeship wage won't be able to cover the insurance. Crippling.
DB11 Posted 22 May 2013 Posted 22 May 2013 First time I failed because I had to turn right at the end of the street. It was a one way street but I didn't realise So I was in the left lane towards the right hand side. That was a major. Second time, when I did pass, it was such a shock! I had to turn left out of a side street and I went up the curb on one side, onto the pavement, and then back down. Both front and back left wheel's had gone over the pavement! Assumed I'd failed and so after that point I didn't have any nerves and just relaxed. I was speaking to him all the way round about hobbies, what I want to do when I finish school etc. I reckon he must have just thought I was sensible and wouldn't be a nob driver and so "forgot" about driving over the pavement and passed me!
Parafox Posted 22 May 2013 Posted 22 May 2013 I don't wish to brag but, I've taken 4 driving tests and passed each one first time. Regular test Advanced (for my job) LGV 2 LGV 1 Incidentally, the examiner for both LGV tests was a 70 year old woman who had driven everything from a 3 wheeler to a steam locomotive and was a qualified pilot! She was tough and very particular and spotted any little error. I know there's others on here who've done more (tank driving and such) but I'm pretty proud of myself, particularly as I was in my early 50's when I passed the LGV's. Never give up. Driving is pretty much a neccesity these days.
lavrentis Posted 22 May 2013 Posted 22 May 2013 Thinking of doing a intensive learning one. Anyone know any good ones in Lestoh or the county ?
Adster Posted 23 May 2013 Posted 23 May 2013 Passed 1st time 5 minors. People who fail the theory Absolute easiest test I've ever taken. The questions I were practising on the App were the same questions that came up in the test As for the Hazard Perception test; you have to be real dumb to do badly in this. It's common sense.
Charl91 Posted 23 May 2013 Author Posted 23 May 2013 Definitely about having a little luck on the day imo. Passed first time a couple of months ago, not sure if I feel really confident on the road on my own though, hopefully becomes easy once I get insured on something this summer. Just keep it going, it's something you've pretty much gotta do and pass, so no point in giving up. Luckily, I didn't really have anything major to deal with, roads weren't too busy so I was happy. Main thing I was worrying about was Pork Pie Roundabout, shitting myself when I got a right turn 5th exit, luckily the car in front indicated right too and was in the same lane as me, so I could just follow him onto the junction which is what I found hardest! Which test centre you doing by the way? In Stoke, sadly - not a great place to drive. Booked in for another go though, and if I fail that I'll have to try it in Loughborough when I move back.
Charl91 Posted 18 June 2013 Author Posted 18 June 2013 **** sake. Failed again. One major and two minors. Have almost a perfect run, and **** it up at the end again. **** **** **** **** ****.
ADK Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 I read somewhere that people who don't pass first time are better drivers.
EastNeukFox Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 Passed my car test first time on April Fools Day 1981, in Glasgow. Took me two attempts to pass my PSV (bus) test though in 1988.
StanSP Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 I read somewhere that people who don't pass first time are better drivers. I'll be happy to back that up!
Soar Fox Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 First time I failed because I had to turn right at the end of the street. It was a one way street but I didn't realise So I was in the left lane towards the right hand side. That was a major. Exactly what I failed my test on. It was down one of the side streets in wigston. Think it was garden street.
vandamman Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 Gypsy lane is a notoriously tough centre, there are lots of real cvnty junctions round there, at least there were, I know a lot of people who took the test in Loughborough instead and passed first time. I don't think theres much difference in the test centres to be honest. I thought Gypsy Lane was marginally better than Wigston in fact.
Bayfox Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 Past 1st time with 7 minors. Instructor told me i could pass an advanced no problems. I know 2 ppl who took 9 attempts. Never been in a car with them driving. I'm sorry bit of you fail 5 times you should just give up. The road isn't the place for you.
Charl91 Posted 27 August 2013 Author Posted 27 August 2013 Never been in a car with them driving. I'm sorry bit of you fail 5 times you should just give up. The road isn't the place for you. Everyone knows the people who pass 5th time are the best drivers.
Nift Posted 27 August 2013 Posted 27 August 2013 That Pork Pie roundabout in Wigston is the biggest bitch, think I failed twice on it. Got it on the 4th attempt when it was snowing, my test slot was the only slot which went ahead that day.

I just did mine in Loughborough - it was a lot easier than the others I did in Stoke, that's for sure! All tests seem to have their risky spots, but I think the place does make a big difference. I remember in Stoke there was one bit where there were 3 mini-roundabouts one after the other, it was a nightmare.
Brainy Posted 27 August 2013 Posted 27 August 2013 My instructor kept nodding off on some of my lessons #awkward
Webbo Posted 27 August 2013 Posted 27 August 2013 THIS IS THE BEST DAY EVER! I'm assuming you passed. well done.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 27 August 2013 Posted 27 August 2013 If you book a test at 838am in loughborough there are only about 4 routes out of the usual 12 that theyre allowed to take you on. That is a fact. It's a lot easier learning just 4 routes. My missis was unlucky. She failed 3 times and on her 4th drove brilliantly and was about 1min away from the test centre when when approaching a fork junction the examiner asked her to keep left. However just before the junction a pissy ****ing Tesco home delivery wagon had parked up. She indicated right to show intention to overtake it but was given a major as cars behind couldve thiught she was signalling to take the right hand fork. How ****ing unlucky can you get? Poor gal hasn't bothered since and her theory has now expired.
Charl91 Posted 27 August 2013 Author Posted 27 August 2013 I'm assuming you passed. well done. Thanks - it took me bloody long enough!
separator Posted 27 August 2013 Posted 27 August 2013 I failed my first driving test. Drove through a red light about a minute after leaving the test centre in Melton. Passed the 2nd ok though. This was in 1992 so before the theory test, check eye sight in car park, did a half hour drive, then shown 3 road signs on a flip chart... easy peasy
The Quick Brown Fox Posted 31 August 2013 Posted 31 August 2013 Passed first time with 4 minors, had my licence revoked just under 2 years later for getting more than 6 points (caught driving a car I bought home with no insurance). I found the practical tests quite easy. The 2nd more so because it was the same examiner and I made a point of telling him he had already passed me once, which I think made him feel he couldn't fail me then. I think this because I very nearly ran a little old lady over as I pulled into a side street. When we got to the test centre he asked me why we look into side streets before turning in? I said to look for little old women and he passed me.
