Is there fresh hope for Beckford at Lcfc?

"The best forward we've had in years" lol

That did make me laugh so.

it was "owned"

go on then - who is?

fatty fryatt? hume? de vries? you have to go back to heskey and collymore.

Fryatt was far better at what he did, and I think the stats would back that up. Found the onion bag a lot more than old 'Airshot' anyway. Beckford trots like he's got a 50p wedged between his arse cheeks.

Nugent is a better all round player too.

A combination of having watched Leicester play a fair deal and the facts would place Sturridge, Dickov, Deane, Ferdinand, Connolly, Fryatt, Howard and Nugent ahead of him.

A decent player who's face does not fit with our manager.

Different time same place and he could have been a useful player for us, and he will score goals elsewhere in the future.

Beckford doesn't have an ego bigger than anyone other footballer at our club.

Like Chelsea don't play the style of football to suit a £50m Fernando Torres, Pearson doesn't play a style that suits Jermaine.

All footballers are on some sort of performance related pay over basic wages. What they are, we'll never actually know.

Leicester fans love a person who runs around a lot and works hard. My point, football at the top level is a game of chess, running out of steam, lack of concentration and being out of position will cost you games.

Beckford adds something to the squad and in the right system will score a lot of goals.

People saying we should just cut our losses and run would just be suicide in this market.

The only way we stay in a good bargaining position is if we stand firm. FFP is a scary prospect, but you dont want to be folding like a pack of cards and letting everyone take advantage. Clubs will try and take players on the cheap, and players we want may not talk to us a they wont get the deal they want.

If we take the approach some on here are calling obvious business sense, Beckford would go for £200k or whatever Bolton offered, Kasper to Hull for £1.75m and we'd pay off Danns, Futacs, Vardy, SSL etc just to get them gone.

I think we're doing the right thing. Hopefully the penny will drop with players like Beckford. The gravy train is coming to an end and its time to maybe get back to playing football first and thinking of your wallet second.

If that happens, he, Wood, Nugent and Schlupp would be excellent strike options going into the new season.

I just can't agree.

We've seen that Beckford, Danns aren't good enough.

They don't represent value for money. Beckford's contract has a further 2 yrs left to run. Wages wise, that's equivalent to at least 2 decent players.

I'd personally now offload them for next to nothing, then start again with players who are both better and cheaper.

Hypothetically speaking.... Beckford on 30k per week or Ebanks-Blake on 15k per week?

No brainer for me that.

and how do we offload beckford without paying him his 30K A week.

He is better than most of our other strikers.

Pearson just can't handle anyone with an ego bigger than his own.

Shame the facts don't back up that he is.

Jesus Christ... well Waghorn, Nugent, Wood, Fryatt, Hume have all managed to score more goals in a season in this league than he ever has.

I remember people saying that when he left to go to Huddersfield and that Grayson was a good manager and would get the best out of him, and that they would finish above us... that worked out well.

I really don't know where I stand on the Beckford 'saga'?

On the one hand I think he's a decent championship striker, no better, no worse imo.

His ability has never been the main problem for me. Although I've met him and he came across as a decent guy and quite down to earth (well as much as a modern day footballer can be) lol.

It does strike me that he doesn't want to play for Pearson and for that reason alone I don't see him ever playing for us again.

I think he will go to another club in the championship and score a decent amount of goals, this however isn't a reason to keep him. The only thing that matters is how he plays for us and that just hasn't been good enough from the start

Debatable is 15 goals in your first season really bad?

Well people in this thread have said to drop Nugent and replace him with Beckford pre season... so clearly 16 LEAGUE goals isn't even enough.

The question we have to ask yourself, is he better than Waghorn, Futacs, Vardy or Schluup? and balance that up with the wages he is on?

its a tough one we know he can score but we also know he can be utterly useless most of the time.

I dont disagree with any of what you say. My point is that we shouldnt let them go for a pittance as it sends out the wrong message. For all of the talk about them, all the evidence that i've seen points to Beckford and Danns NOT having massive egos or bad attitudes. They happily went on loan (unlike Mills for instance) so they could get game time. There's no doubt they are on ludicrously high wages with us but I honestly think these pair look at the bigger picture. If they just ran the last years of their contracts down and left for free, in the climate of FFP, not many clubs would offer a mercanary like that any kind of deal.

The smart thing for both of them would be to be happy to accept terms on a 3 year deal somewhere else. We know the Bolton deal fell through over the fee so thats us not Beckford but again, if Bolton are taking the piss, good for us for not caving in (something we've been critisised heavily for in the past) and I for one would be happier with Beckford as one of 4 strikers than Vardy, Waghorn or Futacs but I doubt that will happen. His goals for Hudd last year and also his prior reputation will earn him a move i'm sure.

Danns I can see being the problem. For a player so obviously unwanted, there hasnt even been rumours of other clubs in for him.
