I'm surprised by this too, only reason i can see is that Root might be tired or confidence is shot.

Not surprised after we have played human yo-yo with him for the last 2 months.

Incredible really, made 180 in the summer in an Ashes series at the number 2 spot and we haven't put in there all tour.

Whole thing has been shambolic from the preperation to the selection to the execution.

The preperation was amazing, 82 page diatary requirements seemed to cover everything off well lol

Embarrassing.

We have Boof running our diet, he has re-introduced beers on the team bus. What a man!

Did a cracking interview with Charles Colville on Sky before the last test.

"Won't see you using an ice bath will we Boof?"

"Only to put the beers in"

Surprised they didn't bring Prior back, a chance to exorcise his demons and get some form, maybe Carberry is being given a last chance to play for his spot for the next series, Root will be back soon enough, can't say his form has made him undroppable. Will be interesting to see how Ballance and Borthwick do, hopefully make better debuts than Woakes and Kerrigan in the last Ashes test in the summer.

Just reading about Borthwick on the BBC:

Scott Borthwick is a rare breed in English cricket...

Yeah he's actually English. Stokes is Kiwi, Ballance is Zimbabwe born and Rankin is Irish, it is getting a little ridiculous.

It is, starting to become farcical.

Ireland would have a decent team if they didn't keep going over to England. Very good at the 2007 WC

Actually wouldnt be a bad side.

I'd like to see them against Zimbabwe or Bangladesh in a test match.

I'm fine with Stokes, he moved here as a kid and has always played for England. Fair enough. However, Ballance and Rankin is a bit ridiculous. When Robson inevitably comes in we'll have players who have played for Zimbabwe, Ireland, and Australia in the first team.

Oh, and what is the point in dropping Root and keeping Carberry? Fucks sake

Make a mockery of the decision to keep Careberry in over Root. Aweful just aweful to tests he has looked like a kid out there scared and without a clue.

Jimmy Anderson to get a ton and save te day

I'll hold my hand up and admit I was happy to see Carberry retained. Not looking so good now. Last chance saloon in the second dig. Root will be back. Perhaps not a bad move to temporarily remove him from the firing line.

Before today Root's average against Australia, even including the 180 where he got a ridiculous let off when on 8, was 33.18. Carberry 29.75.

Now neither of these are exactly world beating, but a large part of an opener's job is to see off the new ball which Carberry did almost without fail in the first three tests, albeit his last couple of innings have not been good at all.

I don't think Carberry's good enough but at the moment neither is Root. I can understand the argument that the only way he will develop is with a settled position at the top of the order, but he needs to earn it.

I stayed up watching it until lunch (90 odds for 4) and thought we were well set for a great day.

:nono:

Well played Smith and Haddin.  I know that Zoolander is probably going to get man of the series, but Haddin has been excellent.

Haddin has been man of the series for me, can't give their bowlers too much credit when we have been giving them our wickets, it's not just the runs he has got, but when he has got them, every time they look in trouble, Haddin comes in and takes the total from poor to decent. Admittedly we have decided the best way to get him out is bowl where he likes it and hope he mis-hits it going for another 6.

Aggers posted something along the lines of Australia's average first innings mid point score being 145/5, with the bottom five wickets on averaging adding another 200 odd.
