Finnegan Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 KP was your leading score, i think his being harsly judged. Just classic England really, in any sport. Very divisive support and players. KP is the greatest ever England player one moment and garbage the next. Rooney is either the third best player in the world or the most overrated player of all time. Mad. I suppose it's a vicious cycle and each over reaction fuels a greater response, probably fair to blame the press in par.

The difference is that with KP you can point out very specific moments where he has done something spectacularly idiotic which has lead to people being annoyed at him. Like trying to hit Lyon for six INTO the Freemantle Doctor at the WACA test and getting caught on the boundary when we needed him to buckle down. With Rooney we all just get annoyed if he's had a mediocre game and isn't brilliant 100% of the time. That said, it's what you get with KP. The moments of brilliance followed by sheer lunacy.

Exactly, and his match winning knocks have been few and far between recently, the question marks over KP are really his age and temprement, not his ability, and being top scorer in this series is pretty meaningless, his highest score was 71, and he only made 2 half centuries in 10 innings, I know everyone else was just as bad, but it is an irrelevant stat. Personally I would keep him, with Swann gone, Trott probably not coming back, more changes in the offing, some stability would be nice, as long as he is seen as being able to mentor the players coming in and not bad mouth them to the opposition, like he allegedly did with Taylor.

It is, and we all knew what we were getting. He replaced Graham Thorpe, who was so steady, reliable and unflashy, so it was a shock that a great player will come in, be so brash but make stupid decisions at times. I think he should remain in the set-up, for all the lunacy I do feel opposition teams would rather not play against him, he should go up to the 2015 Ashes and hopefully go out on a high.
purpleronnie Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 Looks like someone in the barmy army was pretty upset with the england teams performance. But at least a couple of our players did something productive. http://news.uk.msn.com/uk/englands-matt-prior-and-stuart-broad-save-man-from-suicide-bid England cricket players Matt Prior and Stuart Broad have talked down a man about to jump from a bridge in Sydney. Prior reportedly pulled the man from the edge of the bridge before he and Broad chatted with him for almost an hour before local police arrived. The pair were reportedly walking back to the England team hotel on Tuesday night when they spotted the man, believed to be British, standing on the railings of the Pyrmont Bridge in Darling Harbour. The unnamed Briton had thrown his phone, passport and wallet into the water before he was pulled from the bridge by Prior and Terry Minish, the team’s security officer. Speaking to the Telegraph, Prior said: “We just did what anybody would do in that situation. We were trying to help a bloke who was struggling and in a bad way. I look back and I’m just glad we left the bar when we did and we were there for him.†Minish added: “Walking back to the hotel we spotted a young man on the edge of the bridge about to jump. He was saying he just wanted to drown. Matt helped to pull him down off the edge of the bridge and sat with him until the police arrived. “It all happened very quickly and we acted on impulse. It is what you do in these situations.†The England stars were returning from a Barmy Army event to raise money for the Broad Appeal, a charity raising money and awareness to combat Motor Neurone Disease. Stuart Broad tweeted about the event this morning: “@MattPrior13 is a best friend of mine and I'm very proud of him. It was a tough situation but so glad he was there
Guest MattP Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 But this has been coming to this England team, ever since the tour in New Zealand this has been coming, we were never 3-0 better than them last summer. To be fair we caned that New Zealand side a couple of months later at home and we had no Swann in NZ which let us witness just how poor Panesar was as a front line spinner. We did what we had to do in the Summer to win the Ashes, and we did 3-0, and we deserved it, the problem was one of the reasons we won in the summer was the pitches we prepared for Australia. Slow turning pitches as they don't have a good spinner and we had one of the best in the world. With a series in India and 2 series against New Zealand, then the Summer Ashes on slow pitches without Johnson, our batsman hadn't faced real aggressive fast bowling on hard bouncy pitches for a very very long time. We couldn't cope, experienced and inexperienced batsmen alike, the truth is we will probably never face that sort of hostile bowling again, but that is not an excuse. It was an awful performance, and some serious mistakes were made in selection and in the development of players like Finn and Root, but the overeaction is just as pathetic. I think this is a great point which seems to have been glossed over, You probably have to go back all the way to South Africa 4-5 years ago to see the last time we played a series with every match on a fast deck. Perth being the only other in 2011 where we were destroyed. Our batsman have simply have not been used to any pace and it showed up bigtime, despite him being crap it was no coincidence than Carberry, Root and Stokes were the best of a bad bunch at seeing off the new ball who play their cricket at the three quickest pitches in England in the Rose Bowl, Durham and Headingley. The other problem is these guys arent practicing it every week, their isnt any genuine pace on county cricket. Pietersen is copping some unfair stick now, he made a huge mistake going against the Fremantle Doctor but apart from that his dismissals haven't been that bad. Anyone who wants him dropped knows nothing about Cricket, if he makes a big score he makes it so quickly you win the match, he averages over 50 and is a batsman no bowler wants to face. He has to remain in the side. No one comes close to him in terms of what he can do for the team and we need to find a way to get him back to that level.

Uncle Albert Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 The shot to mid wicket when Australia placed two fielders there was pretty stupid on KP's part, I agree though he is getting some unjustified criticism here. Very easy to take it out on someone like KP. Ian Bell was the darling of the summer but yet again he failed down under, 1 hundred in 15 innings in Australia, yet nothing is mentioned about Ian Bell.

He's definitely one of the more frustrating cricketers to watch though when he has his idiot moments. Still, rather have him in my team.

little Brian Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 looks like Pietersen has been a complete pain in the ass , about time he f****** off to the IPL out the way ,

Matt Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 We're taking our Ashes form in the ODI's with another pathetic, woeful, embaressing performance. Consistancy England.
Corky Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 Bowling attack of Bresnan, Rankin, Jordan and Stokes? What has happened to Steven Finn?
Brooksy Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 Just one win at any form of cricket would be nice. Embarrassing stuff.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 Not picking a spinner didn't help your cause. Only Jordan looked like troubling the batsmen. Your fielding was also some of the worse I've seen in a while.
purpleronnie Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 . Your fielding was also some of the worse I've seen in a while. We've got it all baby!
purpleronnie Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 No, because the women just won the 1st test.
Guest MattP Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 Bowling attack of Bresnan, Rankin, Jordan and Stokes? What has happened to Steven Finn? Something must be seriously wrong with Finn to not be getting a game now, the attack is appalling. Ballance and Buttler are going to be solid players for us though.
RowlattsFox Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 Ridiculous that Buttler is batting that low down, no other country would have someone like him coming in at 8.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 Ridiculous that Buttler is batting that low down, no other country would have someone like him coming in at 8. He had been going well in our domestic t20 league too.
Corky Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 ENGLAND WIN A CRICKET MATCH!!! Ok, it was a friendly, but still: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/cricket/25726548
Guest MattP Posted 16 January 2014 Posted 16 January 2014 Got a funny feeling we'll get out first proper win tonight.
