The Year Of The Fox Posted 15 July 2013 Posted 15 July 2013 I'm saying those who haven't been here long perhaps aren't so interested in supporting the site and have paid their money in order to win one of the prizes on offer. I just think the praise they're getting for 'donating' their money could be a little misplaced, that's all. I really don't understand why this refund point keeps getting brought up, yes it means everyone's money is safe but how does that influence people's reason for donating? I've said that I believe the 'younger' posters are possibly donating only to win a prize so the fact there will be a refund actually reinforces my point that people may only be in it for the prizes on offer. They know that they're guaranteed to have a chance of winning. I'd try and explain how badly you're missing the point but I can't be arsed

_Fatboyslow_ Posted 15 July 2013 Posted 15 July 2013 But seriously I feel that the people behind FT have been a bit let down by the posters. As for only being in it to win a prize, there are some very misguided folk on here. Still thanks for trying, maybe start earlier next year to give people a chance to find the cash.
Harry - LCFC Posted 15 July 2013 Posted 15 July 2013 Why on earth is any of this at all relevant? People are getting praised for donating and those who aren't, especially long term users, were criticised. I'm just not that keen on it and I feel that some of the praise is misplaced.

I'm just not that keen on it and I feel that some of the praise is misplaced. So we're meant to praise people who don't donate to the site, even if some of the 'donations' are just for the prizes?
Harry - LCFC Posted 15 July 2013 Posted 15 July 2013 They're being praised because £5 is actually quite a bit of money for a raffle ticket. And I'd consider the prizes on offer rather tempting too. I still have my doubts that these people, who haven't been here long, are doing it in order to give money and are motivated by what's on offer. I know it's a charity and I realise that cynicism, which is what I'm doing after all, about charities is usually unwelcome but I also don't welcome the criticism for those choosing not to donate. Also, can I ask what the purpose of sponsoring James is? Is it just to publicise the site? So we're meant to praise people who don't donate to the site, even if some of the 'donations' are just for the prizes? No, I didn't say that. I said that I didn't like the criticism that they're getting.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 15 July 2013 Posted 15 July 2013 Im well confused! I admit though Harry the whole concept hasn't been explained well at all in the OP. I suggested editing it and also making it a sticky. Neither have happened
Harry - LCFC Posted 15 July 2013 Posted 15 July 2013 Must say I'm also not truly sure what's happening. I get the impression I might have a few misconceptions about this charity and might hold a misinformed view because of it. Sorry if that turns out to be the case!
davieG Posted 15 July 2013 Posted 15 July 2013 No one he said it's a charity, it states clearly in the OP that it's to celebrate/recognise 10 years of foxestalk by sponsoring a player. something Mark, the forum owner has always wanted to do. Nobody was criticised for not buying a ticket I just commented that I was surprised that some of the more prolific and long standing members hadn't done so. MattP explained he'd only just seen it.

That isn't the impression I got, sorry if I'm wrong about this. You didn't explicitly criticise anyone but the words "surprised by the lack of involvement by some of the ..... members who've had great service from this forum. But hey it's free country" implies some disappointment towards those who chose not to donate. Either that or I've misread what you meant, if so I withdraw by comment and apologise.

Well I don't see being surprised as being criticism I genuinely thought more people would be interested and would want to be involved and it certainly wasn't intended as such. But as I also implied it's down to individual choice maybe it simply doesn't appeal to them as I'm not convinced that it's down to money. On reflection I think now it's all about timing and many of the posters I mentioned are not around due to the close season.
Alf Bentley Posted 16 July 2013 Posted 16 July 2013 Mark, If this scheme proves unworkable and you're bothered/able to pick and choose when refunding, please keep my tenner as a site subscription. I'd been meaning to contribute for ages anyway and had been feeling guilty about my failure to do so. If this is impracticable and you have to return the dosh, I'll try to show the iron self-discipline required to then donate it to party funds, but I wouldn't bank on it as I a man of weak resolve and might fall into temptation and spend it on sex, drugs & rock'n'roll...
ozleicester Posted 16 July 2013 Posted 16 July 2013 keep mine thanks Mark.. worth it for your time and effort. I am AMAZED that one of our financially comfortable jetsetting city fans hasnt stepped up and stumped for the last few hundred pounds? Surely its a tax deduction or something?
jonthefox Posted 16 July 2013 Posted 16 July 2013 Only on Foxestalk could a good natured attempt to actually create something turn in to an arguement. Hats off to mark. I think it may still be possible, but if not then keep my money too.

Mark Posted 17 July 2013 Author Posted 17 July 2013 All refunded, shame we couldn't do this but it was a great amount needed to raise in a short space of time, thanks for your interest though. I'll think about running it for next year and start it earlier during the season. If you wish to donate to the forum anyway there's a link in the forum footer.
Bert Posted 17 July 2013 Posted 17 July 2013 Just an idea, but what about making a sticky thread and having the donation available all year until next season - we'd surely hit the target then?
Guest MattP Posted 17 July 2013 Posted 17 July 2013 No worries. Any idea how long it takes paypal to refund when you have done it through the bank?
foxer Posted 17 July 2013 Posted 17 July 2013 Cheers for trying Mark. Lets start earlier next year if possible.
StanSP Posted 17 July 2013 Posted 17 July 2013 Thanks for the refund, Mark. But it was a real, genuine shame this couldn't go ahead. Maybe next year and I'm happy to back Bert's idea above!
_Fatboyslow_ Posted 17 July 2013 Posted 17 July 2013 Nice try, I will try and remember to make a donation to FT when it shows up on my card, but don't hold your breath on this one as I tend to just look at the balance. Feel free to remind me end of August
