Finnegan Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 I've got to be honest, if we had a striker as good as Steven Fletcher or Shane Long and our entire best 11 were fit, I'd be disappointed not to get at least a draw out of England at home. That's about how far it looks like you've come. Granted, Simon Church is our most likely finisher and most of our "stars" never play so everything I just said is pointless.
FrankieWorthoYaggedMyWife Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 Things we learned last night. Our defence is absolute dog muck, Phil Jagielka is utter mince. I like Cahill but he needs an experienced leader alongside him and as we don't have one whose a) good enough or b) willing to play for us then we need to look at another option. Phil Jones if he stays fit and stops pulling faces has got to be the most talented we have, but who do you play alongside him? Cahill and him would make mistakes no doubt but if they grow togetehr they might just work eventually. Jagielka needs disposing of. It's a shame Lescott had a non-existant season last year as he was finding some stature and we need someone who we can rely upon. Ashley Cole must start at all times, Baines is alright but he just isn't as good defensively. Wilshere is the most gifted player i've seen in an England shirt since i've been drinking alcohol (since I was 13) I pray he can shake off his injury problems and we can pin all our hopes on him, haha. The Ox looks like he's getting better and better, which working in partnership with Wilshere for Arsenal over the coming years will be invaluable for England. Joe Hart needs to wake up, he's class but that must be half a dozen high profile howlers now for England and Man City in the past year alone. Rickie Lambert, rags to riches. What a bloke, a proper footballer. Steve Bull and Steve Walsh rolled in to one. I really hope Rooney goes to Arsenal, that's where our future lies with Wilshere, Ox and Walcott. Imagine those 4 playing together week in, week out. Still not convinced by Welbeck, his first touch is the pits and his finishing is even worse. Having said that Walcott's was about as delicate as Mick Philpott with a petrol can last night. Haha...... that's being kind pal! He knew fook all about that goal last night 2-3 shit touches and then a scuff with his swinger! I saw Luke Campbell do something similar on his debut for a Sunday side about 10 years ago! People watching were saying "This new mate looks useful!"
Webbo Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 Haha...... that's being kind pal! He knew fook all about that goal last night 2-3 shit touches and then a scuff with his swinger! That's incredibly harsh. If he'd been Spanish or Brazilian you'd have said it was genius. I'm certain he meant it.
FrankieWorthoYaggedMyWife Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 That's incredibly harsh. If he'd been Spanish or Brazilian you'd have said it was genius. I'm certain he meant it. Nope - I hate the foreign coonts
Corky Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 In short, delighted for Lambert, but there's your latest sugar coating. Completely pathetic performance as usual, we are shite. Slightly over the top.
Pride_Of_The_Midlands Posted 15 August 2013 Author Posted 15 August 2013 That Jake Livermore has played for England and Kevin Nolan hasn't is truly shocking.
Brainy Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 Nolan is one of those players who is unfortunate he had to fight the likes of Gerrard and Lampard for a spot in his prime. Like somebody said though to suggest dropping "has beens" like Gerrard and Lampard and bringing Nolan is daft
Leicesterpool Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 To some might sound daft but how about Wes Morgan getting an England call up? Michael Dawson is due a call up i think. On the current defence, Kyle Walker didn't have the best of games last night but for me he's still miles better than Ashley Cole. Gary Cahill is good with a good strong experienced defender beside him, Phil Jagielka was a player for years i was calling to get an england cap, but at the moment he looks poor alongside Cahill. Baines at first i was impressed with him but in his recent performances he's looked a class act. We're just missing that solid head at the back i believe, as much as i hate him i do fear at times we miss Terry. Also i think it's time for Butland, Hart as been shocking for me recently.
Fox92 Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 To some might sound daft but how about Wes Morgan getting an England call up? You're right, it is daft.
Guest MattP Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 To some might sound daft but how about Wes Morgan getting an England call up? It's ridiculous. I'm not one of these "big club = England" but at his age you have to be playing in the top flight to be considered for England. Add to the fact is isn't anywhere near good enough for that level of football, if he was he would have been out of this division years ago.

England need to move on sooner or later from the likes of Johnson, Terry, Cole, Lampard, Gerrard, Milner & Barry. On Goalkeepers, forget Butland, forget Hart, Fraser Forster is the man, 6ft7 beast of a goalkeeper, his performances for Celtic especially in the Champ League warrants more England call ups and a starting place.

Rickie Lambert didn't play in the Championship until he was 28 or the Premier League till a year later, when he was Morgan's age. England is obviously beyond him but the Premiership isn't in my view.

Get your point but Lambert really had to drag his backside through the game from the lower leagues, Morgan has always been at this level and would have been regularly watched at this level.

I think Gerrard still has a part to play. He was our stand-out performer at Euro 2012, by some distance. It can't hurt to have some experience in the side. As for the keepers, whilst I've been saying Forster should be in the squad, he's not better than Hart. Hart's made a few clangers recently, but he's still the best. He was incredible against Brazil and somehow kept it down to 2.
Danno Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 Everyone's ideal England starting X1s?HartWalker Jones Lescott Cole Wilshere Carrick Lampard Walcott Sturridge Rooney

Dan Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 Slightly over the top. Not at all. We were woeful. We woke up towards the end of the game but for the vast majority of it, we looked no better than a poor, poor Scotland side.
Dan Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 Walker better than Cole? What are you on? This. Walker's extremely over-rated.

Just want to see how Forster get's on, Hart has made a few clangers and not just for England over recent months, deserves to be dropped for a bit.

I do, but he might as well wait until another friendly comes around. It's not making an extremely notable (and probably unnecessary) change when we've got 4 big games coming up
Jordan Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 To some might sound daft but how about Wes Morgan getting an England call up?Jamaica tried really hard to get Morgan in before the June World Cup qualifiers, but they were unable to complete the required paperwork with FIFA in time.Unfortunately for Jamaica, their hopes for qualifying for Brazil were just about crushed after those games, so they have probably abandoned their efforts to cap-tie him (not that Morgan is on the level to play for England anyway).
Leicesterpool Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 Shame England didn't have another friendly before Moldova because last night England couldn't experiment due to simply we couldn't afford to lose that particularly friendly. With the US playing well at the moment, i think it would be a good idea to arrange friendly against them some time next year, possibly before the World Cup (part of our pre warm up to the tournament) and ideally play it in the States!
Dan Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 Too late for Morgan now and he's never played in the top flight either. Never once.
Fox92 Posted 15 August 2013 Posted 15 August 2013 Joe Hart does make a few errors, but there's no other goalkeeper to challenge him. That's a problem we've got. Ashley Cole is still class but when he does finish, who replaces him? Baines? I mean, he's about 27 now. I've always rated Wilshere, his close control is excellent, but I still think Gerrard has something in him. He was our best player at Euro 2012 and his free kick was excellent yesterday; made the goal. Again, up top. Any class forwards? Rooney yeah but then...? As for Morgan, that was a bad comment imo. He isn't England class and never has been, hence his career. James Chester is a better defender than big Wes and has more of a chance.
