England vs Scotland

I'd love to see Aaron Lennon involved with England again, can't believe he's still only 26, and apparently Spurs achieve a better points ratio with him in the side than without. He and Walcott either side could be genuinely frightening.

Rooney gets slated but I honestly don't think he's an out and out striker anymore and seemingly gets frustrated anytime he plays for England. Be great if Roy could play him at the top of a midfield three just to see how he gets on.

There's a lot of English talent at sides like Southampton / Norwich / Swansea - I think Jonjo Shelvey will genuinely thrive in Wales. Could be a promising few years if Hodgson fancies experimenting a touch, not to the point where every man and his dog has a cap to their name, but just to freshen things up a little.

Well and truly talking out your arse la

Lambert get's a chance, why not Kevin Nolan?

He deserves at least one cap, after the way he has performed for West Ham past few season's.

Perhaps not Mark Noble, but I like him though, always thought he was underrated.

But Nolan should 100%

Tonight proves, why England shouldn't rely on these has-beens. Hart ain't great, people bang on about him being the best goalkeeper in the Prem, some say the World, I'm sorry but he isn't. He isn't even top five in my opinion. Johnson has been in the set up for ages, and has always been about average, Micah Richards would of been first choice, if he didn't get injured & managers actually gave him a chance when fit. Walker will more than likely be first choice, but someone like Nathaniel Clyne deserves a shot sooner or later. Centre back, forget the days of Terry & Ferdinand now, the team need to move on, Jagielka didn't have the best of nights, but he is far better than he proved tonight, same with Cahill, not sure on players like Smalling though. Centre back is probably our weakest position in terms of depth. Left back is healthy enough especially when Cole calls it a day, got the likes of Baines, Bertrand, Gibbs and Shaw all talented enough.

Midfield, you don't need the Gerrard's, Lampard's, Milner's. Wilshere will be the major part of the England side, in a few years, Cleverley will be there or thereabouts. Some of the youngsters though who performed for the Under 21's yesterday, played absolutely class, give them a shot and see how well they do. Hughes, Redmond and Barkley have massive futures. Really think players like Lallana, Noble & Nolan deserve call ups as well. While wingers, we have a lot of up and coming talent who can play out wide, forget the likes of Downing, Lennon, Young etc... the future in my opinion lies with, the likes of Sterling, Zaha, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Walcott.

While up front, Rooney has done nothing for years, Welbeck brings nothing, Sturridge hasn't proven himself when given the chance. Jermain Defoe might be 30, but he is a great finisher and always does well in an England shirt, Rickie Lambert is a proper striker and tonight proved he fully deserved a call up, players like Gary Hooper, Charlie Austin and Jay Rodriguez if they perform this upcoming season, deserve a chance.

Just a matter of giving the future a chance, sooner rather than later. Other countries are doing it, about time we did the same, instead of calling up the likes of Johnson, Gerrard, Lampard, Milner, Rooney every game.

Ditch the has-beens, call up 31-year-old Kevin Nolan. Genius!

Things we learned last night. Our defence is absolute dog muck, Phil Jagielka is utter mince. I like Cahill but he needs an experienced leader alongside him and as we don't have one whose a) good enough or b) willing to play for us then we need to look at another option. Phil Jones if he stays fit and stops pulling faces has got to be the most talented we have, but who do you play alongside him? Cahill and him would make mistakes no doubt but if they grow togetehr they might just work eventually. Jagielka needs disposing of. It's a shame Lescott had a non-existant season last year as he was finding some stature and we need someone who we can rely upon. Ashley Cole must start at all times, Baines is alright but he just isn't as good defensively.

Wilshere is the most gifted player i've seen in an England shirt since i've been drinking alcohol (since I was 13) I pray he can shake off his injury problems and we can pin all our hopes on him, haha.

The Ox looks like he's getting better and better, which working in partnership with Wilshere for Arsenal over the coming years will be invaluable for England.

Joe Hart needs to wake up, he's class but that must be half a dozen high profile howlers now for England and Man City in the past year alone.

Rickie Lambert, rags to riches. What a bloke, a proper footballer. Steve Bull and Steve Walsh rolled in to one.

I really hope Rooney goes to Arsenal, that's where our future lies with Wilshere, Ox and Walcott. Imagine those 4 playing together week in, week out.

Still not convinced by Welbeck, his first touch is the pits and his finishing is even worse. Having said that Walcott's was about as delicate as Mick Philpott with a petrol can last night.

Tonight proves, why England shouldn't rely on these has-beens.

Not just the has-beens, but also any English player who is in the squad of the big four.

Just because someone paid over the odds for the player doesn't mean they are decent.

Give me more players like Lambert who have worked their way up and want to play for their country.

The problem with the England international scene is that there seems to be very little passion from the players involved. Representing your country should be the highest honor but they certainly don't seem to act or play like it is. I don't know if its the over inflated ego's or the over inflated wage packets but there just doesn't seem to be much to be proud about!

After writing this on Tuesday i gotta say i actually really enjoyed the game. I did think the majority of those that were playing really seemed like they wanted to be there. For me it shows that under Capello we had to many players who were guaranteed a game as long as they wanted one.

I kind of agree with Kingfox (not about Noble and Nolan) that we should be bringing some of the younger guys through into the team. To say i'm bored of seeing drab uninspiring displays from the likes of Johnson, Carrick, Milner and Barry is an understatement!

the fact that someone like Ricky Lambert can get called up, get a cap and a goal should be inspiring to all English players out there! For me he deserved his Call Up and certainly didn't look out of place. Good for him i say!

As for rooney, we all know the guy has class and can be a great player. Unfortunately he just doesn't seem to shine in an england shirt and even last night, his 1st touch was pretty awful. He should be in the squad but i think Woy either needs to work out where he will be most effective in this system or leave him on the bench for a few games as he seems assured a game whenever he wants one at the moment!

It's hardly like Ukraine destroyed you at their gaff in their own tournament.

They didn't but were the better team, and we seem to be going backwards.

I took 5/1 on us not to qualify for the world cup before yesterdays game, it's good odds and we've some tricky matches coming up. Especially given how we rarely keep clean sheets these days. However, I do see some serious potential in Wilshere, Ox, Walcott and a few others.

Carrick has done well recently though, but Johnson, Milner and Barry especially bring absolutely nothing. It's frustrating when you see those picked over young emerging players or players who have worked their socks off for their clubs, but don't get any recognition, like Noble and Nolan in my opinion. Two years ago, Scott Parker in my opinion was the best midfielder we had, had injuries now seems likely to move to QPR, which is a sad case.

I want to see players like Nathan Redmond, Will Hughes & Ross Barkley, now Redmond has moved to Norwich hopefully we get to see his potential, Hughes will just grow and grow, and hopefully Everton give Barkley more chances.

The centre of defence is the biggest problem though in my opinion, the days of Ferdinand and Terry are slowly going. Now it's time for players to make a step up, Jagielka honestly isn't as bad as he performed last night, he is one of the best defenders in the Premier League, in terms of leadership and blocking skills etc... but apart from him and Cahill, the likes of Smalling and Jones are next in line. Of experienced players left, I can only think of Michael Dawson, as another option, Lescott as well but he didn't do much for Man City last season. I suppose Micah Richards can play centre back, if he get's back to full fitness he could be a key player for England. Then you have to look at the likes of Wisdom and Caulker.

I'll have a bit of that.

I still think we'll sneak through somehow but no way should the odds be anything near that.

I really don't get the Scott Parker hype, has a fairly poor passing range, no pace and doesn't score enough goals.

no pace and doesn't score enough goals.

That's why he is a defensive midfielder.

Carrick has taken over from him, and rightfully so, he honestly brings something.

We would at least keep hold of the ball better with 9 Barrys.

In short, delighted for Lambert, but there's your latest sugar coating. Completely pathetic performance as usual, we are shite.
