Webbo Posted 27 July 2013 Share Posted 27 July 2013 There was a thread on this a few years ago. IIrc it used to be sung by a group of fans in the Three Cranes pub before a match in the 60s and it just got bigger.

Spudulike Posted 27 July 2013 Share Posted 27 July 2013 I remember singing it during the Bloomfield days but it was sung much slower and involved much hand waving during the "the whole world smiles with you, la la, la la laaaaaa" bit.... and at the end "the whole world smiles with yoooooooooooooo". Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 27 July 2013 Share Posted 27 July 2013 It's better when sung slowly, lasts longer and goes deeper ;-)
Dan LCFC Posted 28 July 2013 Share Posted 28 July 2013 Deserves more of an airing. It's one of our only unique songs. I never used to be keen on it but I've grown up in an era when you only ever really get poor renditions of it so I think that's probably why. Shame that our fans opt for nicking other teams' songs rather than singing our own most of the time.

Pretty much all we seem to do is do the same generic chants that every club in the country does

There's occasionally decent songs but far too many generic ones. We're capable of far better as the new chants thread suggests.
Corky Posted 28 July 2013 Share Posted 28 July 2013 It might work if we adapt it to the Sloop John B theme.

WYS when done even half properly is epic. genuinely can't remember the last time that was at the KP though to be fair. probably the 3-2 defeat to Villa in the league cup a few years ago. bluefox9er Posted 29 July 2013 Author Share Posted 29 July 2013 It' is a very old song. Pre war I believe. was it sung at Filbert Street pre-war? That would be incredible a terrace song has gone down the generations.
Ashley Posted 29 July 2013 Share Posted 29 July 2013 Like the song but I think it's to hard for our fans to sing for some reason anyone else agree? Think we could adopt another song? I believe the game against Watford in 96? When Izzet scored 6,000 Leicester fans were singing it must be love by madness - this is only from stories though. Mister Pastry Posted 30 July 2013 Share Posted 30 July 2013 When you're smiling is a unique song to Leicester City, it really should be our anthem, West Ham have I'm forever blowing bubbles, Liverpool have you'll never walk alone and Stoke have delilah. I remember going down to Filbert Street in the 80's and 90's and singing this at the top of my voice with thousands of others with real pride and vigour, it really did make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. For the coming season this really should be made our anthem again. All the singers down at the KP or away games should sing their lungs out so the opposition fans/team/management and everybody watching on the box or wherever will be in no doubt that this is Leicester City's song and nobody else's. I remember it sung for years, perfectly in the 70's I even remember going to a London Book shop specialising in Sport. It had fanzines and loads of footie books. One book was about songs and chants. As always I immediately checked what it said about Leicester, it mentioned that we have a number of chants referring to our rivals and that we had our own song 'When you're Smiling' to which it said the Leicester fans finished it with an impressive display of coordinated hand movements. WYS is more Leicester than any of the other hundreds of chants tried over the years. IT DEFINITELY DOES NOT NEED THE DRUM. It is sung far to fast at the moment. Find someone over 40 to understand how it should be sung. If the whole of the L block did it properly it would be great.

Every song is sung at such a furious pace now, WYS is ours, lets keep it that way & sing it slow like we used to. It's an old song, not some bloody rap song!
