Guest Col city fan Posted 16 August 2013 Posted 16 August 2013 What is happening with Leicester's roads at the moment? Working as I do, near the City, driving into work and home again is becoming nie-on impossible. Roadworks everywhere, traffic lights everywhere, speed bumps that feel like a roller-coaster when driving over them (what damage do these do to wheel bearings, suspension etc?). Speed cameras, mini-roundabouts. The list of health and safety features is endless. It's doing mi fookin head in!!! I just want to drive in and drive out...Grrrrrrrr
MikeyT Posted 16 August 2013 Posted 16 August 2013 I use Melton Road 9 times out of 10 to get into town and God knows what it will be like when they demolish the Belgrave flyover! There is also major works going on on Melton Road where GE Lighting was, due to them building a new Sainsbury's. That makes the trip fun as well!
goose2010 Posted 16 August 2013 Posted 16 August 2013 you want to live in Hinckley/Burbage think there is 5 sets of temporary lights at the minute.
Bayfox Posted 16 August 2013 Posted 16 August 2013 You wanna try the m1 southbound. **** me heading towards london there are potholes you could lose a small car in. Hate to think what damage that does to mr rep mobile doing 90 odd in outside lane as he hits one.
MooseBreath Posted 16 August 2013 Posted 16 August 2013 Speed bumps are a phooking disgrace. If the speed limit is 30 I should be able to drive at 30 without wrecking the shit out of my car. How the hell they are even legal I don't know.
ADK Posted 16 August 2013 Posted 16 August 2013 The speed bumps near where i live are very bad. When i was taught to drive i was told to take speed bumps at 20mph but these simply can't be taken at that speed without causing damage to your vehicle.
Vacamion Posted 16 August 2013 Posted 16 August 2013 I am on a visit to Leicester just now and was shocked by the chaos caused round the ring road to and from Fosse Park by the Roadworks at Lutterworth Road. It's surely not beyond the wit of man to manage it in a way that doesnt clog up the road. Poor.
Adster Posted 16 August 2013 Posted 16 August 2013 you want to live in Hinckley/Burbage think there is 5 sets of temporary lights at the minute. Absolutely hate living here at the moment. When Rugby Road isn't full of roadworks Ashby road is! Now my road Sketchley Road is under temporary traffics lights too.
Saxondale Posted 16 August 2013 Posted 16 August 2013 They're trying to get a lot of them all done at the same time while it's the summer holidays.
Bobby Hundreds Posted 16 August 2013 Posted 16 August 2013 If I make it through Abbey Lane and only stop at 6 sets of traffic lights I consider it a good commute.
MikeyT Posted 16 August 2013 Posted 16 August 2013 To be fair, we all moan when they're not doing roadworks to fix things and we moan when they do. They can't win!.
Dan Posted 16 August 2013 Posted 16 August 2013 They're absolute shit in general but I agree, they're an absolute shambles at the minute. The worst one has to be the road works between Fosse Park and the M1 junction when you're heading into town - it's a pretty sharp bend, 3 lanes, the sign tells you that all three lanes are open only to find when you've gone round the corner, the left hand lane isn't actually open. I'm convinced our roads are designed to be this slow. Look at Upperton Road going away from the football ground - why does it go from 2 lanes, to 1, back out to 2 again, with a wide pavement rather than having two lanes? The road design in Leicester is absolutely piss poor.
Dan Posted 16 August 2013 Posted 16 August 2013 Speed bumps are a phooking disgrace. If the speed limit is 30 I should be able to drive at 30 without wrecking the shit out of my car. How the hell they are even legal I don't know. If I had my way I'd get rid of every single one of them in the country. Completely reactive system that annoy most people just because they fail to punish the actual offenders on the road.
Babylon Posted 16 August 2013 Posted 16 August 2013 The council are trying to cram all the roadworks in now before kids go back to school... you add school runs to the mix and you might as well walk to and from work!!!
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 16 August 2013 Posted 16 August 2013 Buckinghamshire is famous for it's huge potholes,
Ozwin Posted 16 August 2013 Posted 16 August 2013 Glen Parva/Soar Valley Way is a god damn obstacle course at the minute.
Adster Posted 16 August 2013 Posted 16 August 2013 They're trying to get a lot of them all done at the same time while it's the summer holidays. Not really the case in Hinckley, they've been happening for over a year.
Basingstoke Fox Posted 16 August 2013 Posted 16 August 2013 There used to be an evil one that would catch me out on the A43 southbound near enough every time. Also, getting out of Leicester on Sunday after the game was horrific. There's alot of roadworks taking place in many parts of the country (including Basingstoke) but it's not nearly as annoying as it was up there.
Zingari Posted 16 August 2013 Posted 16 August 2013 Buckinghamshire is famous for it's huge assholes, edit; just joking DT
whoareyaaa Posted 16 August 2013 Posted 16 August 2013 I think they have budgets that they have to spend around this time of year hence all the roadworks going on.
Babylon Posted 17 August 2013 Posted 17 August 2013 Buckinghamshire is famous for it's huge potholes, So is Blackburn, Lancashire.
Zingari Posted 17 August 2013 Posted 17 August 2013 So is Blackburn, Lancashire. 4,000 of'em at the last count I believe .
Babylon Posted 17 August 2013 Posted 17 August 2013 4,000 of'em at the last count I believe . I've heard they were rather small though.
Legend_in_blue Posted 17 August 2013 Posted 17 August 2013 The road widening along Lutterworth Road looks nothing short of being extremely dangerous for pedestrians once it opens imo. I have never seen such a narrow pavement along what will be a very busy main road in and out of town once its up and running. There just isn't the space for it.
Zingari Posted 17 August 2013 Posted 17 August 2013 I don't know why the homeless and unemployed can't be used for filling in pot-holes in the road . They'd have to lie pretty still though
