Dan Posted 19 March 2014 Posted 19 March 2014 Get the feeling United will get through tonight, everyone will think they have turned the corner before they lose at west ham at the weekend. I think the fact Olympiakos need just the one goal to make Man Utd need 4 is what makes me think they'll go. Does anyone trust this Man Utd side to go and thump these without conceding? I certainly don't. They'll go I reckon.
Corky Posted 19 March 2014 Posted 19 March 2014 Agree 100%. I want those 2 hours of my life back! How can Chelsea spend so many millions and still have such an unappealing team?! OK, I know Galatasaray were dire last night and Chelsea have some very technically skilled players but... so little verve or panache as a team, so many men behind the ball. They are a miserable, defensive-minded team and I hope they win nothing. I'd prefer Man City, Arsenal or Liverpool to win the league. Mourinho may be good entertainment value in the media, but his teams aren't entertaining on the pitch. Because Mourinho is more bothered about hard work and staying solid as a team than being expansive and truly ruthless. Great manager and won so much but I'd rather watch Rodgers, Martinez's or Pellegrini's teams.
Uncle Albert Posted 19 March 2014 Posted 19 March 2014 If whiskey nose was still in charge of United then I think pretty much all of us would expect them to win 3-0 tonight, under Moyes? I just can't see it, even Man United fans have come to the realization of it. I remember debating with people on here when Moyes got appointed, I said he wasn't good enough from the off and there was number who said he would succeed. One of my points was how can a man who has only won one trophy (League One title with Preston and managed two Champions League games in his career able to motivate former winners in such a massive game like tonight? How can he motivate Vidic, Ferdinand, Carrick, Rooney and Evra? All previous winners. How can he motivate Van Persie and co who clearly already have no confidence? No doubt about it, tonight is the biggest game David Moyes has probably ever managed, under the circumstances.
Alf Bentley Posted 19 March 2014 Posted 19 March 2014 Because Mourinho is more bothered about hard work and staying solid as a team than being expansive and truly ruthless. Great manager and won so much but I'd rather watch Rodgers, Martinez's or Pellegrini's teams. I quite agree - and hard work and team solidity are good qualities, not to be sniffed at. However, with the resources at his disposal Mourinho should be able to provide that - AND a team that plays more expansive, attractive football. With him, winning is everything, when he has the resources to be able to win AND entertain. If he was at a club with limited resources that was trying to break into the top 4, I might well applaud him (Moyes' approach at Everton was quite similar, I think). I presume that he just feels that, based on experience, the limited, defensive-minded game he prefers is the one most likely to bring success. Doubtless, he'd cite his managerial record as proof....but other teams are well-placed to succeed while also playing attractive football. I hope their approach is successful and Mourinho's isn't.
Dan Posted 19 March 2014 Posted 19 March 2014 Players really shouldn't need motivating for nights like tonight. I agree with this but you can't argue with his record.
Uncle Albert Posted 19 March 2014 Posted 19 March 2014 Players really shouldn't need motivating for nights like tonight. You say that, Man United players shouldn't need motivating for a game at home to their bitter rivals but there was no motivation from them at all. Something clearly isn't right at Old Trafford behind the scenes, apparently Moyes has had a fall out with Giggs, that will not have gone down well with the rest of the squad. These players need motivation, badly.
Zapp Posted 19 March 2014 Posted 19 March 2014 The only motivation the Utd players will get tonight is the personal humiliation of going out to Olympiacos. But rightly or wrongly Moyes is taking all the blame. Maybe Utd players would rather go out tonight by 1 goal instead of by 8 or 9 against Munich or Madrid in the next round.
LeicesterBran Posted 19 March 2014 Posted 19 March 2014 I am looking forward to Borussia Dortmund Vs Zenit St Petersburg. Have a soft spot for the Black and Yellows and hope they beat Zenit tonight.
One Legged Beaver Posted 19 March 2014 Posted 19 March 2014 United's biggest game of the season and Ferdinand and Giggs are starting?
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 19 March 2014 Posted 19 March 2014 United's biggest game of the season and Ferdinand and Giggs are starting? Their season has been truly woeful but I genuinely hope they win tonight
Jimothy Posted 19 March 2014 Posted 19 March 2014 One hell of an attacking bench. Bit of a risk with Rio being a bit of an injury worry and Rafael a red card waiting to happen and not having a defender on the bench.
LeicesterBran Posted 19 March 2014 Posted 19 March 2014 I don't think United aka the Walking Dead will win tonight. I can see Olympiakos winning 2-0 with a brace from Joel Campbell, I think he has a future at Arsenal when he returns from his loan spell in Greece. Reckon he'd offer more than Olivier Giroud for the Gunners.
One Legged Beaver Posted 19 March 2014 Posted 19 March 2014 Valencia is officially the most right sided person in football now Refuses to use his left foot and now cannot see out of his left eye.
Jimothy Posted 19 March 2014 Posted 19 March 2014 Wtf is Holebas doing there!?! 1-0 Man Utd. Crazy defending!
One Legged Beaver Posted 19 March 2014 Posted 19 March 2014 Giggs looks so out of his depth out there, every time he gets the ball it goes straight to Olympiacos. About time he hung up his boots.
ScouseFox Posted 19 March 2014 Posted 19 March 2014 fair play, didn't think they had it in them to qualify but looking likely now. olympiakos should've scored not long before that goal mind.
foxes_rule1978 Posted 19 March 2014 Posted 19 March 2014 Seems the Rooney, Van Persie partnership is finally working...
RowlattsFox Posted 19 March 2014 Posted 19 March 2014 Looking good for United but there's a goal in this for Olympiakos. Last minute goal for Olympiakos would just about sum up everything.
ScouseFox Posted 19 March 2014 Posted 19 March 2014 Seems the Rooney, Van Persie partnership is finally working... OptaJoe â€@OptaJoe 1m 1 - Man Utd's second goal vs Olympiakos was the first pass between Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie in the game. Combination.
Jimothy Posted 19 March 2014 Posted 19 March 2014 fair play, didn't think they had it in them to qualify but looking likely now. olympiakos should've scored not long before that goal mind. I still think Olympiakos have a goal in them.
ScouseFox Posted 19 March 2014 Posted 19 March 2014 I still think Olympiakos have a goal in them. here's hoping
Dan Posted 19 March 2014 Posted 19 March 2014 They've turned in a far better first half, however I think they're still completely capable of losing this. Olympiakos have been dreadful, but every now and then look threatening on the counter. That double save from De Gea was excellent.
