Karljohn Posted 1 September 2013 Posted 1 September 2013 I've thought of a simple system for referees that get it wrong, if any club appeals the sending off and the red is rescinded, the ref should then pick up the same ban as the player would have. They should also be forced to dance to goal music before kick off at the next home game whilst serving their ban, in the centre circle, we are always grumbling about pre match entertainment. .

Haha, as light hearted as your forfeit sounds ... you actually raise a good point. Referees should be accountable for bad decisions, just as players, managers are. Would perhaps stop them making the bad decisions in the first place.
KFS Posted 1 September 2013 Posted 1 September 2013 Nige has been calling for accountability on the refs part for ages, and he's right.
Guest Sharpe's Fox Posted 1 September 2013 Posted 1 September 2013 As much as I would love to see it, refs being made accountable could be very damaging. If under to much pressure they could become nervous and jittery, dishing out cards for every little incident. This may, in turn, coarse refs to ask for more technological assistance with decisions as in Rugby Union, which is a good or bad thing depending on your POV. Of course this is completely hypothetical and I thought I would bring something else to the debate.

theessexfox Posted 1 September 2013 Posted 1 September 2013 The sad thing is, the people in charge of enforcing retrospective action would probably think Deadman was right.
Mack Posted 1 September 2013 Posted 1 September 2013 Problem being it's hard enough to find referees of any quality from a dwindling pool of younger people training to be refs because of all the grief they get. If you start to punish them and make the job and difficult decisions they take even more pressurized it will lead to even fewer referees coming through and potentially even more mistakes.
WhenYourSmilingLCFC Posted 1 September 2013 Posted 1 September 2013 I posted after the Birmingham game that the ref for that game was the worst I had seen for a long time. Deadman yesterday was just as bad, possibly worse. Cant quite understand how officials have got so bad.
fleckneymike Posted 1 September 2013 Posted 1 September 2013 To me it's simple. Mic up the ref and have them explain every booking and penalty in a match that way there's no confusion over decisions and no time for them to concoct a story for their ref report.

Of course this is completely hypothetical and I thought I would bring something else to the debate. That's what he was doing yesterday. James' first tackle was about 8 minutes in, and he got booked. Yet in the Premier League, the first foul isn't always a yellow card. Antonio Valencia, for example, made three fouls against Chelsea before he was booked. Deadman is a ridiculous referee, we've had him before and he's been very poor. He was always going to send a Leicester City player off yesterday. As I said, James' first tackle he got booked for, yet a Charlton player did the exact same thing and got away with it. Consistency would be nice, even if referee's get it wrong.
Renart Posted 1 September 2013 Posted 1 September 2013 The problem with this is that 'making a bad decision' is not always about 'making a decision'. With this you could have a situation where referees are scared to make decisions at all! Situations where a red card should be shown might be ignored because a ref is worried that his decision might be overturned post-match and he might face sanctions. We would then be shouting in the opposite direction when an opposition player remains on the field when when he shouldn't be. The point about Refs coming into the game (with the criticism that they receive) is also valid and implementing sanctions would only make this worse. Rather than immediate sanctions all refs should be assessed on their performance in a game (this probably already happens) and over a number of games. They can then be ranked with the better refs taking the more important/higher profile games (Prem), working down the leagues. Therefore, a run of poor performances would drop a ref down that table (a decision being overturned would obviously count against) and they would not get the higher paid jobs. To an extent, this is probably what happens already but a system which has more transparency (i.e.a published league table and reports on each game refereed with grading) would, I am sure, be welcomed.
orangecity23 Posted 1 September 2013 Posted 1 September 2013 We have previous with Deadman. He's been absolutely awful every time we've had him for a number of years. In fact, if I recall correctly, Deadman was the ref who sent Kisnorbo off and awarded a penalty about 10 mins into a game a few years back. The red card was later rescinded because a) it was a fair tackle b) he wasn't the last man c) it was outside the area. Says it all really. Right up there with John Moss and Gavin Ward, possibly even worse.
Dan Posted 1 September 2013 Posted 1 September 2013 Those three along with Stuart Attwell are appalling. Pearson's got it bang on for a while now - accountability. The FA/FL are not at all arsed about improving the standard of officiating (even though it really is shocking), they're just trying to make you accept the shit standard rather than improving it.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 1 September 2013 Posted 1 September 2013 Poor old refs. always seem to get a good ear bashing from our fans.
jamesmilner Posted 1 September 2013 Posted 1 September 2013 blame the ref time again . how about players that have a poor game are made to referee ? cant can we as we'd not have enough players on the pitch ? bad/good refs , swings/roundabouts .
Matt Posted 1 September 2013 Posted 1 September 2013 blame the ref time again . how about players that have a poor game are made to referee ? cant can we as we'd not have enough players on the pitch ? bad/good refs , swings/roundabouts . Yep. All my arguement is, is that our fans seem to ignore the fact we didn't play well yesterday but our fans won't admit that and deflect alot of the blame onto the referee, the referee was awful yesterday, this isn't right, it shouldn't happen, but let's look a little closer to home before pointing fingers at something we can affect. One or two have said I sound like a broken record, well the people that blame the referee when we fail to win are also sounding like broken record, infact it starts with them, if they didn't blame/point the finger at referee's when we fail to win, I wouldn't be having this argument would I? Like I said the referee was awful yesterday, I'm not denying it, what I am saying is he's being discussed more than the game, more than how bad we played, how many threads are discussing the ref? Gotta be atleast 3, maybe even 4 or 5. Tbh i've not really seen much discussing about the game or how bad we played.

I don't think we're all just blaming the ref. We all accept we were bad yesterday, but the ref didn't help. He gave literally everything Charlton's way. Fair play a referee might be bad, but at least be consistent. I cannot think of a single game I've ever been too at Filbert Way where the referee has been totally one-sided to Leicester, like Deadman was to Charlton yesterday. Example - James makes his first tackle, gets booked. Charlton's first tackle, no booking... Kermogrant hits the post clear as day, Charlton corner given...
Matt Posted 1 September 2013 Posted 1 September 2013 It's almost every time we fail to win the referee comes into question by our fans though, that's my problem. So on this basis of the referee rarely getting mentioned when we win (Although he did last week, which was a refreshing change after a win) and then when we fail to win the referee comes into question almost every time....So if we didn't get bad referee do people honestly think we'd win every/most/more game?

Well, no, because there are plenty of occasions when people say "we didn't deserve to win but we weren't exactly helped by the standard of officiating".

Guest ttfn Posted 1 September 2013 Posted 1 September 2013 Ok, must have missed those posts. Apologies. Almost every post in the Charlton post-match thread that commented on the referee commented on how we didn't deserve anything anyway...
Dan Posted 1 September 2013 Posted 1 September 2013 Anyone got Liverpool v Man Utd on? Where's Welbeck's card for that? Fvck off.
THEBIGJOHNSTEADER; Posted 1 September 2013 Posted 1 September 2013 Who is this deadman fvck, and why wasn't he bullied into suicide at school?
