Kitchandro Posted 24 September 2013 Posted 24 September 2013 Dry Patch He's got 4 goals in 8 games (all comps). Just of of interest if Cup Goals and Penalties both don't count now do's penalty in the cup count as -1? I don't really care if their penalties or not, Given our last two play off campaigns I'd of thought we'd have a better understanding of the importance of putting a spot kick away than most. Nugent hits around 15 goals a season I will do so again this season, nice to see him making an appearance on scape goat of the week though. He's scored 2 in 26 from open play. Ok then, 6 in 26. He's been diabolical for ages and I can't believe people are defending his form based on some penalties. Why not play Konchesky up front in that case? Nothing to do with being a scapegoat, if a player is playing shit then it must be addressed.
Kitchandro Posted 24 September 2013 Posted 24 September 2013 He's been poor but to claim he's been as bad as Elvis Hammond is plain daft. He's been dreadful on the whole. His goalscoring record since Feb is akin to Elvis Hammond, his all round play has dipped badly as well.
Bert Posted 24 September 2013 Posted 24 September 2013 Come on now Bert, he's been as bad as any of them for the last 8 months. On form no one complains about Nugent, but the fact of the matter is he's been out of form for way too long. . So, November, December, January he was bad was he? You can't Include June or July because he didn't play any games then and in May he would've only played two. A prime example of people making things out to be much worse than they are.
Kitchandro Posted 24 September 2013 Posted 24 September 2013 . So, November, December, January he was bad was he? The last 8 months Bert is since the end of January. November and December aren't in the last 8 months. If you're going to be pedantic I'll say he's been shit since January. That doesn't sound any better to me, that's over half of a season. If that's not form worth dropping for what is?
GingerrrFox Posted 24 September 2013 Posted 24 September 2013 You cannot compare scoring in open play with scoring penalties, they are two entirely different quantities. He absolutely butchered 3 chances on Saturday and the miss from 6 yards out whilst being completely unmarked is inexcusable, you can blame Kasper for giving away a needless penalty but we should have been 3-1 up by that point, if you haven't seen the miss then check it out and see if you are still blindly backing Nugent. His entire game has gone to pot, poor first touch, making bad decisions, work rate has reduced and I think its probably fair to say it's coincided with the birth of his child but that is no excuse, we need players on form and other strikers have been made to pay far more and been dropped by Nigel for constantly missing chances.

The entire team was garbage from the end of January - April. To say he has not had a decent game since the end of January is just a lie.

Id be worried if he wasn't getting chances, but as it so happens he is.
GingerrrFox Posted 24 September 2013 Posted 24 September 2013 Id be worried if he wasn't getting chances, but as it so happens he is. He's not making his own chances. He was set up on a tee by Knockaert on Saturday and he butchered the life out of it and then turned to the referee and was desperately claiming that it had taken a deflection and should have been in a corner, when in actual fact he was unmarked and should have scored.
Kitchandro Posted 24 September 2013 Posted 24 September 2013 The entire team was garbage from the end of January - April. To say he has not had a decent game since the end of January is just a lie. I genuinely can't think of one. Certainly not one I've seen. Yes the entire team was garbage but it isn't now. He's still stuck in a rut.

Yes, in which 2 and a half months he didn't even play! So how on earth can you include that? Stop trying to make your points better than they actually are. You changed it to the end of January because of me being an apparent pedant. Why don't you judge him over the full season? He's been our top scorer for the past two seasons and we're a much better team with him in, rather than not. We all know that he can play better than he has been there isn't anyone that will deny that, and there is much more to his game than goals. Look closely at him next game, he drops deep and does a job on one of their midfielders.

DanTheFox07 Posted 24 September 2013 Posted 24 September 2013 does anyone know what sort of wages Nugent is on a week? are looking at 25,000 - 30,000 a week? surely can get a better striker in on that money? something for us to seriously consider now, doubt nugent will want to wait long for a new deal either.

Ehhh? Again another pointless post from you. Nugent is finding himself in scoring positions, how is that possible if he is lazy/rubbish/doesnt track back/tackle/make the teas/ etc. for me I want my strikers in the right places, if he wasn't getting shots off id be worried. Fine line between finishing and not.

I'm sure we could get someone better for 30k a week but we'd need to get rid of Nugent first which won't happen if he's on a salary like that.

Fine line between finishing and not. It's not hard to be in the right position when the ball is placed perfectly on the back post and you spoon the ****er over the bar. Chris Wood is always lurking back post and he would have finished that chance without a shadow of a doubt.

Haha so now you are calling for another striker that is "out of form" to play instead. make your mind up.
GingerrrFox Posted 24 September 2013 Posted 24 September 2013 Haha so now you are calling for another striker that is "out of form" to play instead. make your mind up. Chris Wood in my view is exceptional at finishing chances, everything else not so great. However Wood was immense at Carlisle (granted against League 1 opposition) but he scored a hat trick and then was back on the bench and Nugent has been shite since. He also was onside for the chance he expertly finished against Wigan which was given offside by the linesman. Other strikers get rumbled on here for missing chances yet Nugent is the exception.
phillo Posted 24 September 2013 Posted 24 September 2013 nuge goals come in sperts he will come good he always does
Manwell Pablo Posted 24 September 2013 Posted 24 September 2013 Did you go Middlesbrough away? Single handily changed the game. Yep this was my example, plus I don't think he's been any where near as bad as some have made out in general Kitch, and it might only be from the spot but he's still scoring goals...can't see the drama myself. (Don't think he was particularly bad against Watford either)
DanTheFox07 Posted 24 September 2013 Posted 24 September 2013 fact is we could do with a man that is going to get us at least 16-18 goal's and when was last person to get that amount for us? I think it was Andy King if I remember rightly! Nugent always goes through spell's and in those spell's he seem's to gain 2 left feet as his first touch is awful and he can't head a ball. Anyway nugent proved himself for us against watford in the play-off's so he came to the fore in a big match for us so he is important no one can deny this. Perhaps we don't always play to his strength's, just like with Wood!

King has never scored 16 in a season and Nugent has scored 16 and 15 in his last two seasons here.

We all like Nugent but no reason why we can't ask for him to be more consistent, I mean he went through a patch where he didn't score for like 8 games last season. If we have aspiration's to be amongst the top 2 Nugent has got to score more simple! after all he is our main striker is he not?
