Jace Posted 26 September 2013 Posted 26 September 2013 If Scotland and Wales are boycotting the World Cup why are England not considering it?
whitlock Posted 26 September 2013 Posted 26 September 2013 Because Scotland and Wales won't get there. As someone above said, seen it in Dubai before. It's actually horrible to see fully grown men, working the way they are and being treated with basically no human rights. I imagine a fed and watered employee would be able to work to a higher ability than a bloke who is on his death bed. 40oC heat is unbearable to sunbathe in, imagine having to wear protective clothing and having to work in 50oC heat. Fcuked up.

GingerrrFox Posted 26 September 2013 Posted 26 September 2013 Yet we all still go there and spend our money, who are the real villians? You won't catch me anywhere near the UAE you seen what happens to ginger's in 40 degree heat? Plus they seem bemused at the sight of white ginger people, just as much as I do seeing a man walk around in his PJ's.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 26 September 2013 Posted 26 September 2013 Sad, definitely, but surely this is in the wrong Forum, as it has nothing to do with Leicester City?
Borderfox Posted 26 September 2013 Posted 26 September 2013 My niece works in Qatar, she has said that the treatment of people particularly those from poor third world countries, the Indian sub-continent being the prime example is nothing short of disgraceful. Many work as family domestics they are paid very very low wages, and not on a regular basis, passport removal is quite normal, they work very very long hours, accommodation is the most basic available no such thing as air conditioning even in 50C temperatures and only falling to 40C at night. She describes their personal treatment from their employers and their families ( even the children) as nothing less than modern day serfdom. Slavery just about sums it up.
Guest Foxin_mad Posted 26 September 2013 Posted 26 September 2013 If you think Russia or the Guardian is Communist I'm guessing you have never been to Russia, read the Guardian or understand the fundamentals of Communism. Hahaha russia a communist country! Stick to football pal. One of the most stupid comments ever on here. I don't see what's sensationalist about it. The Guardian reports as it is. Nothing changes the fact that these Nepalese workers are being exploited to the maximum. And that is scandalous. As for calling Russia Communist... They're probably as capitalist as China. Communism is a mere political affiliation on paper in order to get access to power these days. Goodness me read what I said! They have Socialist/Communists tendencies but are as corrupt as they come, you can not honestly go to Russia and say they are a fully democratic capitalist state can you? and I have been there probably more than most of you, and they are truly horrible to work with generally. And no I do not want to read the Guardian because it is absolutely full of shit. Never realised there were so many left wing happy clappers on here. The Guardian is just the lefts version of the Daily Mail, they even try to claim that Miliband is a strong leader.....utter tripe. They sensationalise everything take the so called 'Bedroom Tax' they have kicked up a storm over, there is no issue really. As a working person if I want a spare room for family/kids to stay in I have to pay for it! Of course if you are left wing you believe in the classic if you do not agree with me you are wrong stance. You are thick blah blah blah Grand.. Everyone is equal some are more equal than others, just proves that people always have their hands in the trough for their own benefit.
21st Century Fox Posted 26 September 2013 Posted 26 September 2013 Somebody's Word-A-Day calendar was 'Sensationalise' today.
Guest Foxin_mad Posted 26 September 2013 Posted 26 September 2013 Just true, I have never read such crap in my life as the Guardian, it is weirdly seem as 'high brow' when actually is the same kind of nonsense printed in the mail just from a different viewpoint. Its very opinionated at often bereft of any facts but we will not let this worry us hey? It is the bible to the left and all others are considered 'not academic enough' to understand.

Do you want to have this thread take a turn for the worse? I don't care about your stance regarding the Guardian, I want to stay on topic here. Nepalese workers are being extorted for nothing and all you can do is come up with a rant about bloody left-wing this, left-wing that. Pipe down! And who in this thread said anything in the region of Russia being a "democratic capitalist" state? You don't have to be democratic to be capitalist!

I am not left wing, far from it and I don't read the Guardian and I don't consider myself an intellectual (i'm a highfields lad) but I know enough about the world to know that Russia is not 'a dodgy Communist/Socialist country'. Dodgy yes Communist or even Socialist? Hell no! I also know not to believe everything you read be it in the Guardian or any other rag anyway not going to get into some kind of political debate on foxes talk just thought your original comment was pretty wide of the mark, laughably so. Anyway I am gonna stick to discussing football, up the City!
MooseBreath Posted 26 September 2013 Posted 26 September 2013 If nothing else it is a bit ironic that the guardian should be the ones making a big deal out of this, when they ordinarily make their living moaning about the lifestyle afforded to poor people in this country which would be almost unimaginably luxurious to the majority of the world's poor. This is what a lot of the world is like. You're either dying in poverty or nearly dying at work. It's a tough old world for most people. We have it easy, yet the guardian is too concerned by its own greed to recognise that fact.
Webbo Posted 26 September 2013 Posted 26 September 2013 Can you imagine the reprisals we might suffer if we boycotted Qatar? Not only do we buy a lot of our gas from them, they spend a shit load of money in this country as well. If the wider Arab world decided to take the snub as well we could be looking at major economic repercussions. It's only a football tournament, so what if it's in winter for once. It might even help England as they won't be playing after a long season.
Guesty Posted 26 September 2013 Posted 26 September 2013 It's only a football tournament, so what if it's in winter for once. It might even help England as they won't be playing after a long season. Or they might have to play a season and half straight before the World Cup. If they're gonna stop mid-season they'll have to start the Prem season earlier.
Guest Foxin_mad Posted 26 September 2013 Posted 26 September 2013 I just find it bizare that they fail to highlight the issues also happening in Russia in terms of corruption and threats by mafia styles gangs, but it suits their agenda not to mention it. I agree what happens in Qatar and Russia is of an equally questionable nature but many fail to raise the parallels.

The focus should really be on the football. These tournaments have the potential to improve societies so we shouldnt be against giving them to countries who have problems. It's just that not only does Qatar have many problems, it is also a country with practically no football culture or history whatsoever and so people are against it from the start.
fleckneymike Posted 28 September 2013 Posted 28 September 2013 Good old Guardian Ahead of the gameSepp Blatter, 2008, addressing the plight of exploited workers denied a chance of livable pay and conditions. Backing the bidDefending Qatar this month – European Club Association head Karl Heinz-Rummenigge: "After visiting Qatar for our last general assembly we had a good feeling about a World Cup there." • Also last week: German tax authorities fine Rummenigge a reported €250,000 for failing to declare two Rolexes received as gifts during the trip. ElsewhereLast week's other football family news: • Peru FA head Manuel Burga denying new fraud, theft and electoral malpractice charges, three years after he attacked the "hypocrisy" of six Peru players who hired prostitutes in a casino. Trinidad Express: "As Warner left the magistrates' court, several people across the street called out to him. He shouted: 'Keep the faith.'"
The People's Hero Posted 29 September 2013 Posted 29 September 2013 If you think Russia or the Guardian is Communist I'm guessing you have never been to Russia, read the Guardian or understand the fundamentals of Communism. Indeed. Better ignored I find. You won't educate these people. I don't know what agenda he/she has but the way it's expressed is laughable. Guardian occupies centre perhaps slightly left of centre ground, depending on which journalist has provided the copy. Communist? Really? Russia? Haha Russia = USSR. Amirite? Dear me
