Imams willing to marry girls of 14 in secret

I went to a mosque in Leicester last week. The Imam said to us that in Islam, if any of the muslim laws contradict the laws of the land, then the laws of the land take priority.

It's a shame some Muslims don't seem to know (or ignore) this.

If it happens in our country it is illegal and should be stopped, if its eleswhere then its non of our concern. Its not systematic of just this religion to pray on the vulnerable.

Then it is up to newspapers like The Mail (for eg.) to inform people of it. I would have guessed that was the case anyway which is why I believe this report is isolated. I also would think that they put the same message out in the majority of Mosques.

I cannot be 100% certain of this because as a white British non religious male I do not frequent Mosques and I doubt many on Foxestalk do either.

I did say "sort of", it is 5/7/5 if you slur it a bit. In fact I edited it a bit so maybe fits the 5/7/5 metre better, though there is much literature on the topic of the correct form and subject matter for Haiku's both in their traditional and their modern formats.

On your other point I don't think poetry should be barred from dealing  with difficult subjects. My "pseudo haiku" may be sh*te poetry but it is hardly a laugh a minute.

I was not having a go at you. It was the assumption elsewhere that I would write one and not know how to do it and not making sense.

I had not even given any thought to writing one. I do know how to write one because I checked before doing my first and as for making sense a Haiku is a Japenese form of poetry originally and very few make sense as they are a brief snapshot of an image.

I checked yours and it was close enough. Those that do not know would appreciate it.

No problem, I wasn't thinking you were having a go, and i wouldn't have minded if you were. As I suspect you know only too well, anything one posts here or anywhere else on line is fair game.

It's not apathy though is it?

It's just people refusing to get hysteric about some dubiously researched article with a trouble causing agenda.

Are we measuring how morally good we are by our level of outage? If so I can assure you I'm absolutely livid. I'm considering writing a strongly worded letter to Allah and tutting loudly at every person I see in the street with a beard

Look who outraged and good I am!

This is fun.

It is apathy.

There is a problem and you are quite proudly stating how you are perfectly happy for nothing to be done about it and openly mocking anybody who would like something to be done about it. How is that not apathy?

It's not happening in Papua New Guinea but in our own country where our own government and agencies have jurisdiction, likewise if 18 of 56 mosques were caught out (32%) then the "isolated incident" retort looks a bit fragile.

Genuinely surprised it was only 18 out of 56.

Fair play to the Inams.

I'm waiting for Rincewind's 'haiku' about it which:

a) Invariably simply won't satisfy the criteria of a haiku

b) Will make no sense.

Sod that actually, I want a limerick.

Best limerick about teen-hungry imams wins (that prize may be personal jihad, just don't mention the prophet's name....)

Mo' met a 12-year-old skater

Too young then but two years later

He got her undressed

I hope anybody that breaks any law in this country, especially for acts as vile as this get prosecuted.  This applies to people of any race or religion.

My fear is that this won't happen.  I also hope that the reason of this isn't fear of reprisals, or even worse, possible risk of offending somebody.

Narrated 'Aisha: that the Prophet married her when she was six years old and he consumated his marriage when she was nine years old, and then she remained with him for nine years (i.e., till his death). ... Sahih Bukhari 7:62:64

"Aisha said, "The Apostle of Allah married me when I was seven years old." (The narrator Sulaiman said: "Or six years."). "He had intercourse with me when I was 9 years old." Abu-Dawud 2:2116

Uck, that is just disgusting. It rivals some of the juicer Bible OT passages.

About the standard I expect from Moose. Is it supposed to be amusing?

Moose getting 10 +1's would say it's very.

Had that been a poster people like it would probably have been 20.
