Bert Posted 25 October 2013 Posted 25 October 2013 Scholes just isn't that good. A great player will always stand out no matter which team he plays for. Carragher said that Lampard is better than Scholes and he has played with both of them. Gary Neville said Scholes is better than Gerrard and he's played with both of them. Your quote on Zidane "I THINK he MIGHTbe" Ashley's quote "ask Paul Scholes" in relation to being the best midfielder in the world.

Carragher said that Lampard is better than Scholes and he has played with both of them. Scholes was a top player, he just went about his business quietly compared to those around him. Didn't have the fierceness of Keane or the flair of Beckham, but his passing range and finishing was excellent.
Guest MattP Posted 25 October 2013 Posted 25 October 2013 Zidane in 1999. "Are you the best player in the World?" "No, When you have played next to Edgar Davids you realise you can't be" Career in diplomacy I think.
purpleronnie Posted 25 October 2013 Posted 25 October 2013 Zidane in 1999. "Are you the best player in the World?" "No, When you have played next to Edgar Davids you realise you can't be" Career in diplomacy I think. Exactly what I thought. Odd that people take his comments so seriously.
Kitchandro Posted 25 October 2013 Posted 25 October 2013 Yeah that's exactly what I've said. Better players play for better teams. Gerrard has been the standout player for Liverpool for years, because he's been the best. Scholes was surrounded by players as good, in a team where the limelight will have been spread. When was the last time Gerrard played in the same team as a team that contained the like of, Evra, Vidic, Giggs, Ronaldo, Tevez and Rooney? Gerrard had Xabi Alonso, Hyypia and Torres for company, and much recently Suarez. I've probably forgot a Liverpool player so please let me know any others that'd be in that category of top class players. I'd take Zidane, Xavi Et Al's opinion over yours anyway, they would all tell you who they thought was better. And they'll have played against them. Great footballers don't always make great pundits. There are plenty of examples of that.
Bert Posted 25 October 2013 Posted 25 October 2013 Great footballers don't always make great pundits. There are plenty of examples of that. Obviously, that means they can't say who they think is better then. Shit.
Kitchandro Posted 25 October 2013 Posted 25 October 2013 Obviously, that means they can't say who they think is better then. Shit. They can, it doesn't mean they're right or that their opinion is more important though.
Pride_Of_The_Midlands Posted 25 October 2013 Posted 25 October 2013 Gary Neville said Scholes is better than Gerrard and he's played with both of them. Your quote on Zidane "I THINK he MIGHTbe" Ashley's quote "ask Paul Scholes" in relation to being the best midfielder in the world. Obviously Gary Neville is going to be biased towards his Man U team-mate.
whitlock Posted 25 October 2013 Posted 25 October 2013 WHO GIVES A FCUK. Football is all about opinions, there is no correct answer to who is better. No one will agree on this, SAF is just being controversial to sell his book. Who would really want to read something that is boring, he's spicing it up to sell copies. PR.
Soar Fox Posted 25 October 2013 Posted 25 October 2013 I guess all these people wrong. http://therepublikofmancunia.com/quotes-about-paul-scholes/
Pride_Of_The_Midlands Posted 25 October 2013 Posted 25 October 2013 I guess all these people wrong. http://therepublikofmancunia.com/quotes-about-paul-scholes/ Never won Player of the Year and only twice got into the Team of the Year
Guest MattP Posted 25 October 2013 Posted 25 October 2013 Daft argument. Both brilliant players. Ferguson clearly trolling when says Gerrard isn't a top player. Scholes will have more trophies than Gerrard as he plays in a far better side. Gerrard has more presence at his club and I don't think Scholes could have dragged his team through a game on his own like Gerrard can sometimes. Overall it's Scholes > Gerrard for me as I think Paul Scholes is the most complete midfielder I have seen in the Premier League. Sven moving him to the left wing for 90% of his time at England was probably the biggest waste of talent I have EVER seen from a International manager.
Fox92 Posted 25 October 2013 Posted 25 October 2013 The main thing Gerrard hasn't got is a Premier League medal. He virtually has everything else at club level. Would I care to much if I was him? A bit, but not to much. He's a player that has scored in the Champions League final, the Europa League final, the FA Cup final and the Carling Cup final. Around the 2005/2006 time, he was the best midfielder in the World. His future at Liverpool was in doubt, and all the major clubs in Europe wanted him, including Manchester United. But it's true, you cannot compare players by their trophies. As I said on page one, Matt Le Tissier is one of the greatest players I've ever seen, but won sod all.
Uncle Albert Posted 25 October 2013 Posted 25 October 2013 Ridiculous comparing Scholes and Gerrard, both unreal footballers, begs a question why we never got to see them both at their best playing for England but I guess we covered that in another thread. Anyway here's a question, apart from Paul Scholes who I would class on the same level as Steven Gerrard, maybe Gerrard just shades it but anyway.. Apart from Paul Scholes who has Ferguson had in any of his Manchester United midfields better than Steven Gerrard? Yet Ferguson thinks Gerrard isn't a top top player. He is an obsessed ****. Can't believe Ashley 1. Referred to Wayne Rooney's body fat, that is well gay and 2. Tried using a quote from Zidane to try and compare Steven Gerrard and Paul Scholes. Embarrassing.
Uncle Albert Posted 25 October 2013 Posted 25 October 2013 Another thing why has this bitter old twat needed to talk about Jordan Henderson's running style in his autobiography?
Fox92 Posted 25 October 2013 Posted 25 October 2013 I'd rather have Scholes' life ahead of Beckham's. Scholes is the better professional. He does his job (football), and goes home to his family. He's rarely covered in the press and doesn't have a body covered in horrible tattoos. (And he's the better player).

Corky Posted 25 October 2013 Posted 25 October 2013 Just like Carragher and Gerrard then? Did you see some of the things listed in that comparison post? Honorary Degree, MBE, third place in Sports Personality of The Year
Bert Posted 25 October 2013 Posted 25 October 2013 Did you see some of the things listed in that comparison post? Honorary Degree, MBE, third place in Sports Personality of The Year Maybe it's time to stop arguing with him
Guest MattP Posted 25 October 2013 Posted 25 October 2013 I didn't even know he had an MBE! What has Gerrard done to merit that appellation?
Uncle Albert Posted 25 October 2013 Posted 25 October 2013 God knows why Gerrard received his MBE but I'm pretty sure he didn't go asking for one, so hardly his fault. Anyway there is some dodgier MBE's than Gerrard out there for Footballers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_football_personalities_with_British_honours
Stadt Posted 25 October 2013 Posted 25 October 2013 David James and Garth Crooks have MBE's, that is ridiculous.
Pride_Of_The_Midlands Posted 26 October 2013 Posted 26 October 2013 PFA Team of the Year Gerrard - 7 Scholes - 2 Says it all.
