ruisliptiger Posted 12 April 2014 Posted 12 April 2014 Couldn't agree more lcfcsnow. Wembley should be hallowed turf, finals only. Sent from my GT-I9295 using Tapatalk
Jimothy Posted 12 April 2014 Posted 12 April 2014 Not quite Facecloth. Arsenal need to pull their finger out and finish 4th yet. The bottling bastards. Ironically we have Everton on the last day. If that happens do I lose the right to moan about being a City (Hull) fan? Sent from my GT-I9295 using Tapatalk If they come 5th, they'll be in the Europa via the league, so you'll get the Cup spot.
Harry - LCFC Posted 12 April 2014 Posted 12 April 2014 I also like the idea of Wembley being used exclusively for finals but other grounds just don't have the capacity. A fairly typical semi-final of United v Arsenal would sell out Villa Park with ease, feels unfair to choose a ground that doesn't accommodate as much of the demand as possible. This season's fixtures have been a bit of a one off but generally Wembley gets close to being full for a semi final doesn't it?
MC Prussian Posted 12 April 2014 Posted 12 April 2014 Oh, well. Two lacklustre penalties for Wigan sealed the deal. Congratulations to Arsenal for winning the FA Cup - although you didn't convince (once again).

A fairly typical Arsenal vs Man United game sells out at both their normal stadiums, as it would Wembley but who cares? Wembley hosting the semi finals is just plain wrong, it's such a shame that in the eyes of the F.A. "money>tradition".
ruisliptiger Posted 12 April 2014 Posted 12 April 2014 If they come 5th, they'll be in the Europa via the league, so you'll get the Cup spot. As I understand it the hierarchy for how you qualify for the Europa League is: 1. FA Cup winners (or losers, if the winners qualify for the CL) 2. 5th in the Premier League 3. League Cup winners (or next best in the PL, if the winners are in the CL) So if Arsenal win the FA Cup and finish 5th in the PL, they qualify for the Europa League via the FA Cup win and the qualifying for 5th place goes to the team finishing 6th. And Man City's EL spot for winning the League Cup goes to the team that finishes 7th in the PL. Though I hope you're right rather than me.

I have sympathy with anyone who doesn't get a ticket for a game that important. I fully understand the desire to make Wembley a finals-only venue and I kinda want that too but some of the other options are woefully insufficient in my view.

What they don't seem to realise is that by going for the money, they erode the tradition. Once the tradition is eroded sufficiently the value goes out of it. We are creeping very close to that tipping point with the FA Cup. Sorry the FA Cup Sponsored by Budweiser.

Very true, if they ever did a national poll on should the semi final's be played at wembley? then i think you probably find 80% would vote no! Its down to the fact they want to keep all the money down London! I mean today was like an home game for Arsenal!

Harry - LCFC Posted 12 April 2014 Posted 12 April 2014 What about the millennium stadium cardiff? Oh yeah, forgot about that. Tbf there are a few decent size stadiums around, would be good to take the semi finals elsewhere if it's workable.
............... Posted 13 April 2014 Posted 13 April 2014 Quite a lot of gaps in the Hull support today, really poor.
Fox92 Posted 13 April 2014 Posted 13 April 2014 Get in Sheffield United! My Hull supporting mate text me "you at Wembley mate" earlier today. He keeps banging on about getting in Europe (I'm taking it with a pinch of salt).
............... Posted 13 April 2014 Posted 13 April 2014 2-1 sheff utd, hull level for about a minute!
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 13 April 2014 Posted 13 April 2014 Put a few quid on Hull at 3/1. If I'd waited till HT could have got 4/1
