Tielemans63 Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 http://www.theguardian.com/football/2013/nov/05/martin-oneill-roy-keane-appointment-managers-ireland Disaster waiting to happen in my opinion.
Guest MattP Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 I often thought Martin was losing his marbles a bit at Sunderland and appointing Keane as a number two pretty much confirms it. This simply won't end well. If Keane thought players didn't want to play for him at club sides when they were being paid well wait until he wants them turning up voluntarily.
Guest kristianity77 Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 I must be the only one then that thinks this is a good deal for the Ireland national side. O'Neill knows what he is doing and if Keane is there to inject a bit of passion into the players and a do or die attitude, there is no reason why this cant work for them.
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 I'm genuinely not massively clued up on the whole situation with Protestant/Catholic Ireland but I'm assuming that all of the crap Lennon got was because he was Protestant playing for a supposedly Catholic club in Celtic whilst also representing Northern Ireland? Yet O'Neill played for Northern Ireland and managed Celtic but seemingly didn't get any of the same level of bother... And now he's managing the Republic of Ireland. Is O'Neill therefore Northern Irish Catholic? Or just a case of people having finally (thankfully) moved on? Or am I missing something?!

MON is a Northern Irish Catholic but is liked by the Northern Ireland fans. Lennon wasn't targeted because of his religion, he was targeted because he had started calling people Orange bastards on the pitch in Glasgow and his behaviour was appalling on numerous occasions. It was always a cop out from the Republican lot to say Lennon got booed because of his religion, he had been playing for years before that and had been supported by the fans.
RonnieTodger Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 At least this means that **** won't be covering England games anymore.
Pride_Of_The_Midlands Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 At least this means that **** won't be covering England games anymore. Southgate and Roy Keane gone in a matter of months. Wonder if ITV will sign anyone else up or just have Lee Dixon on his tod?
Mack Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 Keane will grow a massive beard and sulk as soon as things don't go as he wants (Which will be after about 20 minutes)
Jon the Hat Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 I can see MON doing a good job, but with him and Keane, who exactly is the good cop?
Leicesterpool Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 The press seem confident MON is going to be named, yet didn't we hear something similar to this when West Ham were after him a few seasons ago. Myself i think MON as spoken to Republic Of Ireland FA but that's how far it goes. I think MON is holding out for a better job. I can see Roy Keane taking the job on his own.

They spoke to the bloke who appoints the managers and he said they've been appointed.
ADK Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 Maybe MON is just cashing in. Lets be honest there isn't an awful lot of work involved managing a second class international side.
Jaspa Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 This gow'n be goood Will miss Keane off ITV though, genuine entertainment and 100x better than the average pundit. Spose hes not up to much for the next World Cup though
Corky Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 O'Neill to Cardiff? He has been appointed as manager of the Republic of Ireland, as I stated earlier.
whoareyaaa Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 This gow'n be goood Will miss Keane off ITV though, genuine entertainment and 100x better than the average pundit. Spose hes not up to much for the next World Cup though Always liked Keane as a pundit as well speaks his mind and is comical, much better than the other dross. On the appointment could go either way really its not like expectations will be high anyway its one of the Irelands we're talking about. Which Ireland will they be managing the shit one or the really shit one?
sphericalfox Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 I'm pretty happy with this arrangement. I know lots of family and Irish friends who are not. MON and Keane have their work cut out for them that's for sure.
Jace Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 I hope for MON this works out because Roy Keane comes across as the kind of guy who could fall out with his own shadow.

sphericalfox Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 irish side of my family seem delighted with MON but absolutely disgusted with Roy Keane. Seems an odd pairing for sure. I'd have had MON all day long, but clearly MON thinks he can work with him. They may well be able to solve the obvious motivational issue in the current squad, but what i fear is that they'll not be able to solve the fundamental issue with Ireland at the minute, and that's the lack of talent or spotting of talent in the younger squads and bringing them through.
absolutelegend Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 It'll be fine until Keane doesn't get his own way, then he'll have one of his usual tantrums.
sphericalfox Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 It'll be fine until Keane doesn't get his own way, then he'll have one of his usual tantrums. When you say usual, how many has he had? He's had a pop at the Man Utd fans, and who wouldn't blame him, and he famously walked away from an International tournament, pissing off a lot of people. Are there more?
Leicesterpool Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 I wonder whose going to replace Roy Keane on the england coverage? Thought Terry Butcher did a good job
