DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 17 November 2013 Posted 17 November 2013 He managed 10 years in the top division and Pearson can in no way be compared Matt survived those years, because he was such a shrewd manager, putting a team together for next to nothing, by the standards of the day. It was a really a rock solid unit that was a joy to watch. He knew exactly who to bring in that would fit in, and that was a key factor. We should have been more successful than we were, and as Davie G. states, it still hurts today.
Leicesterpool Posted 17 November 2013 Posted 17 November 2013 Sven you could argue was one of our better managers, not great but better than some. He came in when we're about third from bottom and managed to turn us around straight away, even before he spent in the cash in the january of that season, along with that we had a slight shout of reaching the play offs didn't do though , following season we sat seventh when he left so you can't say he left us in a bad way... well left behind some high earners but it was the owners that signed the cheques.

Let's be honest, the side he took over was never bottom three material. It has just finished 5th, which was about 6/7 places higher than it's natural level. He did well up until February then it fell away to a limp finish. We were 13th when he left, having spent a lot of money on some average players. He wasn't one of our better managers at all.

Again it is one of those things we'll never know if he stayed would he have taken us up eventually? To be honest Sven i think works better with limited means, it went wrong when he decided to go into the transfer window, he bought players in we didn't necessarily need. Okay fair enough he brought in a few good'un's but there well hell of alot of deadwood he brought in aswell. However there is some speculation some of those signings made in the Sven era weren't exactly his choices.
hairy Posted 18 November 2013 Posted 18 November 2013 When NFP gets us promoted and his Premier stats match then he'll be up there with one of the above. Micky Adams' figures reflect that after winning so many to get promotion then being the whipping boys with the lowest ever (at that time) points on the table. Looking at those stats you wonder why we ever got rid of Sven
fazzyfox Posted 18 November 2013 Posted 18 November 2013 Brackley Town 1 Gillingham 0, I see Peter Taylor's still working his magic. Didn't spot Junior Lewis in the team, seems like he managed new depths of shocking results without him. Are they divorced? Who got custody of the Wycombe Wanderers quarter final programme and the framed picture of Dennis Wise signing his contract?
Bayfox Posted 18 November 2013 Posted 18 November 2013 On that can we get Powell and Stowell back. Promotion. prem league. champions league a cert Common City who was the one of little's staff who managed us for one game after him and gregory left. 1 game 1 win and it was against arsenal I think.
fazzyfox Posted 18 November 2013 Posted 18 November 2013 who was the one of little's staff who managed us for one game after him and gregory left. 1 game 1 win and it was against arsenal I think. Either Alan Evans or Kevin McDonald I think.

davieG Posted 18 November 2013 Posted 18 November 2013 Garry Parker 1 game 1 loss 0-6 to Leeds Utd at Filbo in the League Cup. Anyone else see this?
Bayfox Posted 18 November 2013 Posted 18 November 2013 Yep was there. Missed the 6th goal tho. Dont remember parker being in charge but now you have mentioned it, it rings a little bell in the back of my mind.
Mike the Metal Ed Posted 18 November 2013 Posted 18 November 2013 He was, by his own admission, a lousy Assistant Manager for the side that slumped to relegation in 02. He then inherited a strong squad which was, rightly in my opinion, allowed to stay together by going into administration. He did a great job of keeping results on track during that time, but then - partly as a result of finances, partly as a result of his career-long penchant for large influxes of bargain veterans - introduced a revolving-door transfer policy that would see us relegated and left with an ancient squad. Our failure to properly reassemble it (something we can't, I concede, blame him for) over the coming seasons ended in relegation four years later. Perhaps that one year in the Premier League kept us afloat for a few years to come, so for that reason and that reason alone we can say that his effect on the club was a positive one. In terms of playing personnel, or league position, it's hard to be so admiring. We weren't even that bad in 03/04. Dickov, Les and Bent scored 32 goals between them and we scored more goals than some midtable teams. It was just our defence that was crap. We'd probably have struggled to stay up in 04/05 without splashing some cash though.
Corky Posted 18 November 2013 Posted 18 November 2013 Garry Parker 1 game 1 loss 0-6 to Leeds Utd at Filbo in the League Cup. Anyone else see this? Yes, unfortunately. We weren't even that bad in 03/04. Dickov, Les and Bent scored 32 goals between them and we scored more goals than some midtable teams. It was just our defence that was crap. We'd probably have struggled to stay up in 04/05 without splashing some cash though. We were the third top scorers away from home, behind the top two of Arsenal and Chelsea. Three home wins and 10 draws was the reason we went down.

Guest Col city fan Posted 18 November 2013 Posted 18 November 2013 Garry Parker 1 game 1 loss 0-6 to Leeds Utd at Filbo in the League Cup. Anyone else see this? Yes I did I remember Leeds being brilliant on the night and we were utterly utterly awful. Carved open time and time again.
Strokes Posted 19 November 2013 Posted 19 November 2013 Not yet, but his career isn't over here and we don't know the end of the story yet. He already compares favourably with our second tier managers and while he has been at the club, he has broken long standing records. There's no reason to suppose he won't compare well with our top-flight managers, should he eventually get us promoted. I just think you can compare him with little now, although little has on the face of it a lower overall win%, he over achieved. Whereas Pearson imo hasn't, even if he gets promotion. I'm not slating no, just saying promotion is the minimum expectantcy here now but it wasn't under little.

This is crazy. After Taylor, he's probably the worst thing to happen to our club in recent years. I can forgive a manger for being shit, or out of his depth, but I can't forgive a manager who took advantage of our owners naivety, spent an absolute fortune and left us completely in the shit financially - all of which got us absolutely nowhere. We were never once even in the playoff places under Sven, after he'd spent millions! He spent more on Matt Mills than we've spent this season. He even spent more on loaning Fatty Jonno than we've been able to spend on transfer fees this season! Not since Taylor has a Leicester manager had such a golden opportunity to succeed at this club and completely and utterly ****ed it up. You'll sturggle to find many other Leicester managers who left us in a worse position, but still - at least we were seventh. Again it is one of those things we'll never know if he stayed would he have taken us up eventually? The bloke has spent millions and millions of pounds during his career! During his most successful stint at Lazio, he spent over a quarter of a billion! It went wrong when he decided to go into the transfer window and chuck millions about without having a ****ing scooby about what was needed - and most importantly what type of players were needed - to succeed and get out of this division.
