Freeman's Wharfer Posted 19 December 2013 Posted 19 December 2013 Same here, For how "brilliant" he has spent his career on the bench for a side who have always needed a striker and generally struggled to score goals. Definitely if you now believe the rumours it was him who went crying racism to the press over Hodgson's monkey joke. If that is true then yes I could see why they would be slim. But then he got in the last England squad so would Hodgson really call-up a player that had ratted on him a few weeks prior?!

I imagine he is still trying to find out for certain, or possibly he's doing it to avoid suspicion, had he dropped him straight away it would be obvious.
Captain... Posted 19 December 2013 Posted 19 December 2013 Erm, Bobby Soldado is twice Jermaine Defoe. Spurs have just been shit creatively. He hasn't been this season, yes Spurs have lacked creativity, but he has spooned the few chances that have come his way, and generally looked a bit shit.
Fox92 Posted 19 December 2013 Posted 19 December 2013 Don't get why players go to the MLS, not that I watch it. The whole lifestyle, living in America etc, must be brilliant but when you've got another couple of years left in you to play at a better level then why give that up? Unless it's plainly for the cash, but Defoe has never come across as that type. Could get in most of the PL sides still imo.

It must be a tempting for certain egos to go from the obscurity of the bench at a big EPL team to being adulated as one of the best players in a new league.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 19 December 2013 Posted 19 December 2013 Personally, I always thought he was one of the most overrated. Completely agree, the media think he's the second coming of christ because he used to be one of Arry's darlings.
Guest MattP Posted 19 December 2013 Posted 19 December 2013 Defoe has wasted his career for me at Spurs. Hes always been happy being a bit part player but hes good enough to be the main striker for a lot of prem teams. He'd regularly get 20+ a season in the prem if given proper game time. Should have ditched Spurs a long time ago. Big thing to say considering he never scored 20 league goals in a season in his whole career. "Defoe goes to Toronto because Drake told him to" - Embarrassing.
Samilktray Posted 19 December 2013 Posted 19 December 2013 90k a week, 2 houses and unlimited flights for him & his family. You'd have to be a mug to turn that down.

Lifestyle is just as good here than the US especially when you get paid a fortune , remember its Canada he's going to though.

Langston Posted 20 December 2013 Posted 20 December 2013 Were they really slim? Most countries take 4 strikers to a world cup and I would have thought our 4 would have been from Rooney, Wellbeck, Sturridge, Defoe and Lambert. I agree that the move to Toronto won't do his chances any favours however. Don't see why he can't wait 6 months, particularly with a new manager coming in at Spurs. Well, yes. I'd say they were. I'd include Walcott in that bunch too, given his versatility. Bear in mind others players could hit form in the period between now and the World Cup as well, Gary Hooper looks settled now and if Andy Carroll comes back to fitness at some point and shakes off any rustiness he'd be in the equation too.
Finnegan Posted 20 December 2013 Posted 20 December 2013 Gary Hooperand Andy Carroll. Watch out, Italy.
Langston Posted 20 December 2013 Posted 20 December 2013 Gary Hooperand Andy Carroll. Watch out, Italy. I did a little sick in my mouth when I typed that, BUT IT'S ALL WE'VE GOT.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 20 December 2013 Posted 20 December 2013 urgh, just scrap international football and we wouldn't have these troubles.
