Molson Canadian Posted 18 December 2013 Posted 18 December 2013 Rumors have been going on for a couple of weeks now and it seems like its going to be announced very soon....Defoe to Toronto FC and he will be the highest paid player in the MLS. The Mirror says the 31-year-old Defoe has been offered a deal worth £90,000 a week (C$155,310) as well as unlimited flights for him and his family. Thoughts? http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/transfer-news-jermain-defoe-talked-into-toronto-move-by-rap-star-drake-9013322.html http://www.cbc.ca/sports/soccer/drake-helped-sell-jermain-defoe-on-toronto-fc-report-1.2468183 http://www.torontosun.com/2013/12/13/tfc-set-to-land-tottenham-hotspur-striker-jermain-defoe
purpleronnie Posted 18 December 2013 Posted 18 December 2013 Hope its true, be a great coup for the MLS.
Langston Posted 18 December 2013 Posted 18 December 2013 Seems a wise move for him and them on paper, bang goes his World Cup chances though (slim as they were).
ousefox Posted 18 December 2013 Posted 18 December 2013 Has another 2/3 years left at Premier League level at least. If he's going for the money fair play to him but as a footballer it'll be the end of a competitive career.
Stadt Posted 18 December 2013 Posted 18 December 2013 He's still got another good season or two in him before he has to move to the MLS.
Samilktray Posted 18 December 2013 Posted 18 December 2013 If Drake asks me to sign I'm signing no how matter how many years I've got left at the top level.
purpleronnie Posted 18 December 2013 Posted 18 December 2013 Who the frick is drake?...thought it was a duck.
foxfanazer Posted 18 December 2013 Posted 18 December 2013 If Drake asks me to sign I'm signing no how matter how many years I've got left at the top level. He'll take care of them.......
Poznan34 Posted 18 December 2013 Posted 18 December 2013 He's still got a few years in the Prem left. Could have gone back to West Ham and got a few for them.
purpleronnie Posted 18 December 2013 Posted 18 December 2013 He's still got a few years in the Prem left. Could have gone back to West Ham and got a few for them. Maybe they should get Mc Hammer to ask Defoe.
Guest kristianity77 Posted 18 December 2013 Posted 18 December 2013 Defoe has wasted his career for me at Spurs. Hes always been happy being a bit part player but hes good enough to be the main striker for a lot of prem teams. He'd regularly get 20+ a season in the prem if given proper game time. Should have ditched Spurs a long time ago.
Guest Sharpe's Fox Posted 18 December 2013 Posted 18 December 2013 Why not go to somewhere like Hull or Stoke (glamorous I know) and play every week in a competitive division?
purpleronnie Posted 19 December 2013 Posted 19 December 2013 Why not go to somewhere like Hull or Stoke (glamorous I know) and play every week in a competitive division? The MLS isn't competitive?
rico Posted 19 December 2013 Posted 19 December 2013 Who the frick is drake?...thought it was a duck.
Ric Flair Posted 19 December 2013 Posted 19 December 2013 The problem for Defoe has been that his career stagnated at Spurs twice when he fell out of favour and I wonder if he can be arsed to re-invigorate it at a smaller PL club or go for a new life experience in Toronto. He's been a very good goalscorer and he can still do a job for club and country for at least another 18 months or more but he's also had some personal tragedies in recent years and I wonder if he's fed up and fancies a change.
MC Prussian Posted 19 December 2013 Posted 19 December 2013 Why not go to somewhere like Hull or Stoke (glamorous I know) and play every week in a competitive division? Why not Toronto, the biggest city in Canada, a huge financial hub and the gateway to both the Midwestern Provinces as well as Québec? Culturally, a lot more attractive than Stoke or Hull. Well, maybe not Hull - being Cultural Capital of the UK and whatnot… But then again, there's always Detroit to hang out.
Beliall Posted 19 December 2013 Posted 19 December 2013 his decision. career suicide but maybe hes fed up in the prem and/or wont take a pay cut to play regular footy in the uk. we should buy him
Captain... Posted 19 December 2013 Posted 19 December 2013 I wonder if AVB getting sacked will change his mind, ridiculous to think they have been struggling for goals all season and their best goal scorer doesn't get a look in.
Finnegan Posted 19 December 2013 Posted 19 December 2013 I wonder if AVB getting sacked will change his mind, ridiculous to think they have been struggling for goals all season and their best goal scorer doesn't get a look in. Erm, Bobby Soldado is twice Jermaine Defoe. Spurs have just been shit creatively.
Samilktray Posted 19 December 2013 Posted 19 December 2013 Always thought Defoe was 1 of the most underrated strikers in England.
eye666 Posted 19 December 2013 Posted 19 December 2013 Always thought Defoe was 1 of the most underrated strikers in England. Personally, I always thought he was one of the most overrated.
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 19 December 2013 Posted 19 December 2013 Seems a wise move for him and them on paper, bang goes his World Cup chances though (slim as they were). Were they really slim? Most countries take 4 strikers to a world cup and I would have thought our 4 would have been from Rooney, Wellbeck, Sturridge, Defoe and Lambert. I agree that the move to Toronto won't do his chances any favours however. Don't see why he can't wait 6 months, particularly with a new manager coming in at Spurs.
Guest MattP Posted 19 December 2013 Posted 19 December 2013 Personally, I always thought he was one of the most overrated. Same here, For how "brilliant" he has spent his career on the bench for a side who have always needed a striker and generally struggled to score goals. Were they really slim? Definitely if you now believe the rumours it was him who went crying racism to the press over Hodgson's monkey joke.
purpleronnie Posted 19 December 2013 Posted 19 December 2013 Did anyone get my MC Hammer joke?, I thought it was brilliant. edit. Thanks Webbo.
