Amin Posted 16 October 2014 Author Posted 16 October 2014 I agree about Magnussen deserving the seat. However you'd probably feel a bit sorry for Button, scoring nearly double the points over his team mate and still it looks like he's leaving McLaren. Definitely. Button has quietly had a good season but the car just hasn't been anywhere near good enough (although you could say that about any car that isn't numbered 44 or 6).
iamafox Posted 16 October 2014 Posted 16 October 2014 Definitely. Button has quietly had a good season but the car just hasn't been anywhere near good enough (although you could say that about any car that isn't numbered 44 or 6). Not as bad as Lotus though, by their standards they've had an absolutely atrocious season.
Asha Posted 16 October 2014 Posted 16 October 2014 They've been fantastic for F1 and had great careers but I think for both Button and Raikkonen it's time to go, they've both plateaued and neither will win another race. I think it's sad seeing former champions fighting for ninth place. Go and do something else while you're still competitive; Webber left at the right time.
ADK Posted 16 October 2014 Posted 16 October 2014 I don't think that is a fair assessment of Button who is hampered by the car. Should Vettel be retiring? I think Button will win a race given a more competitive car.
Asha Posted 16 October 2014 Posted 16 October 2014 I was referring more to former champions who are in the autumn of their career, while Vettel is only 27. I felt the same about Schumacher, he's the greatest F1 driver of all time - why come back? It was hard to watch at times.
Amin Posted 17 October 2014 Author Posted 17 October 2014 Both Raikkonen and Button could compete for wins on a regular basis given the car. I think they've still got a couple more seasons left in them.
iamafox Posted 20 October 2014 Posted 20 October 2014 Hulkenberg is staying at Force India for next season.
ADK Posted 20 October 2014 Posted 20 October 2014 Button and Alonso in the same team with equal status would be entertaining.
Amin Posted 25 October 2014 Author Posted 25 October 2014 It looks like we're only going to have 18 cars for the rest of the season: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/29770496
Asha Posted 25 October 2014 Posted 25 October 2014 May as well scrap Q1 eh. I think once Caterham fell off the wagon Marussia were always going to withdraw from the next couple of races too.
isaidno Posted 27 October 2014 Posted 27 October 2014 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-oxfordshire-29784602 So only 18 cars now . Interesting to see what happens next season with the 3rd car rule
Asha Posted 27 October 2014 Posted 27 October 2014 Wouldn't be surprised to see Sauber go soon as well.
yorkie1999 Posted 27 October 2014 Posted 27 October 2014 I think Caterham will get some sort of bail out from Bernie and be on the grid next season. He may still go for 3 car teams because he only has to give 6 weeks notice for this to happen. And then it will go back to 2 cars as Haas and possibly Audi and Porsche may enter cars.
DennisNedry Posted 27 October 2014 Posted 27 October 2014 I think the Caterham and Marussia teams dropping out would be good. What do they actually do anyway, except fill up some Q1 drop zone slots and block people when being lapped?
iamafox Posted 27 October 2014 Posted 27 October 2014 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-oxfordshire-29784602 So only 18 cars now . Interesting to see what happens next season with the 3rd car rule I reckon Bernie is getting his way with that. Should the likes of Caterham and Marussia fold then it looks increasingly likely we will see teams running 3 cars sooner than we might expect.
isaidno Posted 27 October 2014 Posted 27 October 2014 Wouldn't be surprised to see Sauber go soon as well. Sauber should be ok , but will miss constructors money if they finish behind marussia . They will get 2 drivers with big budgets
isaidno Posted 31 October 2014 Posted 31 October 2014 May as well scrap Q1 eh. I think once Caterham fell off the wagon Marussia were always going to withdraw from the next couple of races too. 4 cars eliminated in Q1 , and in Q2
ADK Posted 31 October 2014 Posted 31 October 2014 The minnow teams have somewhat lost their charm in the most recent age.
Asha Posted 31 October 2014 Posted 31 October 2014 Caterham have brought absolutely nothing to the sport. Now they're bowing out Marussia are basically pointless too - who can they compete against!? I hate the idea of a 3-car teams but they need to do something to fill out the grid for next year.
ADK Posted 31 October 2014 Posted 31 October 2014 I think 3 cars per team would go down well with fans as you'd have a minimum of 3 drivers in the best machinery. Can imagine Alonso wouldn't be too unhappy to throw his hat in the ring for a Mercedes or Red Bull drive if it happens. Not sure how I feel about it long term.

isaidno Posted 31 October 2014 Posted 31 October 2014 3 car teams wouldn't be that good. 3 mercedes followed by 3 red bulls by 3 ferraris. Would be hard for teams like force India and Sauber to score points. If the teams ran rookies in the 3rd car it might work .
iamafox Posted 31 October 2014 Posted 31 October 2014 Vettel will start the US GP from the pit lane as he will use his sixth power unit this season.

Call me a cynical bastard but I reckon that would open the door for the third driver to be used as a defensive mechanism in races against other competitive teams.
