Wycombe Fox Posted 9 October 2014 Posted 9 October 2014 Perez the first with the post 'accident' over reaction! http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/29551563 I've never liked the use of the safety car for the reason that the field concertinas back up and any advantage gained by the lead driver, or in fact anybody, is lost. I don't know what speed the safety car travels at but I would've though, with the technology available to both pits and drivers, that each car's speed could be limited in the event of an accident similar to when a car enters the pits. That way gaps between cars are maintained and race strategies aren't compromised but I suppose one of the benefits of the safety car is that all cars are together which gives marshalls clear track time to deal with an incident. Just a thought but obviously driver safety is paramount.
RobHawk Posted 9 October 2014 Posted 9 October 2014 ~I'm not a big Vettel fan but he's nailed the riight mindset on this one for me: "If something happens there is always the chance to learn something and avoid it happening. But you have to understand that with the cars we race, the speeds we travel, accidents can happen."
Chug Laguna Posted 9 October 2014 Posted 9 October 2014 Perez the first with the post 'accident' over reaction! http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/29551563 There's literally not one thing he said that's even remotely an "over-reaction" If you're going to have slow moving vehicles with metal edges right at a driver's head height and compromise the integrity of the safety features of a circuit, even for one moment, then yes there should ALWAYS be a safety car, at the VERY least. That's common sense even at grassroots level

That's common sense even at grassroots level I don't agree! I think to do that would be detrimental to the sport and i think most of the drivers would be the first ones to complain about it. I'm not saying safety improvements shouldn't be explored and what has happened is obviously horrible, but to make a complete change to regulations that would have a huge impact on the sport is a over reaction. Whats happened is very sad but accidents do happen, its part of the sport!

Whats happened is very sad but accidents do happen, its part of the sport! The hazard presented with an unoccupied single seater carbon fibre car disabled off the racing surface is far less than the hazard presented with a slow moving piece of machinery inside the fencing, with unprotected marshals. If the car is not an imminent danger it should be left where it is, cars should never be running without a safety car when crash equipment is on the track or inside the fence. I understand that F1 is somewhat alone in motorsport in having a huge, huge aversion to the safety car, but a driver was - for all intents and purposes - killed on Sunday because a crane was inside the fence hauling away a car. Historically that is the kind of thing that leads to changes.
isaidno Posted 9 October 2014 Posted 9 October 2014 Perez's comments have annoyed me. Admitting the drivers don't really slow down for Yellow flags. As a Marshall myself I think his comments are stupid.
Chug Laguna Posted 9 October 2014 Posted 9 October 2014 Drivers don't really slow down for yellow flags. They don't overtake, may not push as hard, but a yellow flag is more of a stay in your lane and proceed with caution, at speed. Barring the introduction of slow zones like at Le Mans or full fledged safety car periods, this kind of stuff will inevitably happen.
Amin Posted 9 October 2014 Author Posted 9 October 2014 Perez's comments have annoyed me. Admitting the drivers don't really slow down for Yellow flags. As a Marshall myself I think his comments are stupid. But it's the truth, isn't it? In a sport where every tenth counts, the drivers aren't going to risk slowing down when their competitors are still going at full speed. Maybe this incident will change their minds, maybe not.
Amin Posted 10 October 2014 Author Posted 10 October 2014 Marussia only running one car this weekend. Bianchi's car will sit in his side of the garage for the weekend.
DennisNedry Posted 10 October 2014 Posted 10 October 2014 For God's sake, who designed the Azerbaijan track? Another ****ing boring, soulless street circuit. Why should they even have a race? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
isaidno Posted 10 October 2014 Posted 10 October 2014 For God's sake, who designed the Azerbaijan track? Another ****ing boring, soulless street circuit. Why should they even have a race? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Money talks . You've got classic tracks like Imola , Estoril , Magny Cours , Kylami and Zandvort which can't afford races , but you have 2 in the gulf .
Nalis Posted 11 October 2014 Posted 11 October 2014 For God's sake, who designed the Azerbaijan track? Another ****ing boring, soulless street circuit. Why should they even have a race? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ I agree but unfortunately what Isaidno is sums up the sad truth. Probably also the reason why Abu Dhabi is the final GP of the year and not Brazil when everyone knows Interlagos is perfect for a final GP of the season and a title decider. Hamilton impressive in practice yesterday.
marko Posted 11 October 2014 Posted 11 October 2014 Bottas must have been mighty close to pole if he hadn't taken the last corner sideways.
Amin Posted 11 October 2014 Author Posted 11 October 2014 Bottas was spectacular, shame he couldn't hold it over the line.
DennisNedry Posted 11 October 2014 Posted 11 October 2014 Looks to me like Bottas wouldn't have been on pole anyway although he probably would have pipped Rosberg.
Jimothy Posted 12 October 2014 Posted 12 October 2014 Well Nico just ballsed up his race just to take Lewis in the first corner. Bit stupid.
Legend_in_blue Posted 12 October 2014 Posted 12 October 2014 Hamilton has really got to him Definitely. Mathematically the title is very much on, but mentally Hamilton has him in his pocket.
Asha Posted 12 October 2014 Posted 12 October 2014 Yeah this has been the most boring race for a long while. We're kind of relying on Rosberg to make a bit of a fight of it but he keeps ballsing it up.
Raj Posted 12 October 2014 Posted 12 October 2014 im going all out in saying that has to be top 5 most boring races EVER. These new circuits, for money making obviously should stop. Not every fooking country needs to have an F1 race Bernie you fooking old goat!!!
