Harry - LCFC Posted 28 December 2013 Posted 28 December 2013 Well I mentioned free speech so I guess this is aimed at me. I'm not saying people shouldn't be allowed to criticise the views of others (quite the opposite infact), you can criticise the bloke on BR til kingdom come as far as I'm concerned, I am objecting to the idea that he shouldn't be allowed to voice his opinion. Because just as you should always be allowed to criticise others, so too should he. Whether he is right or wrong doesn't matter. What's important here is restricting the application of censorship, in order to protect free speech. You can't go around censoring people just because you don't agree with what they're saying. This isn't North Korea. Yeah I agree with all of that. I kind of skipped over what the OP had said and didn't notice him calling for the site to be closed. At first I was wondering why you'd brought free speech up but now I realise, my mistake.
Buce Posted 28 December 2013 Posted 28 December 2013 Same applies on here although in my experience few share such extreme views on Foxes Talk. Seriously? There is one poster on here whose homophobic ranting is as bad as anything I've ever seen - anywhere. To my knowledge, he has never even been challenged, never mind banned; it seems that all prejudice is equal but some prejudices are more equal than others (apologies to George Orwell).
Samilktray Posted 28 December 2013 Posted 28 December 2013 Unfashionable views. Somebody really said that.Bloody hell.

Dangerous Tiger I assume? I along with many others have challenged his views whenever he has posted them and I'd be surprised if he hadn't been warned about it and been given some form of ban in the past. He's just about the only one though where as whenever I've been on Bentleys Roof there have been several posters who share similar views.
Webbo Posted 28 December 2013 Posted 28 December 2013 Unfashionable views. Somebody really said that. Bloody hell. Yes, I said that.
MooseBreath Posted 28 December 2013 Posted 28 December 2013 I think there is. Surely saying they're 'the world's filth' is encouraging the hatred of Muslims? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-15333744 What's the difference really? Well for one that's Scotland and they have different laws, stronger presumably as a tool to deal with the sectarianism. Two the guy in question said "hope they all die" which is a fair bit stronger than anything posted on BR. The only act in England and Wales that this might be illegal under is the Racial and Religious Discrimination Act and that contains the following: "Nothing in this Part shall be read or given effect in a way which prohibits or restricts discussion, criticism or expressions of antipathy, dislike, ridicule, insult or abuse of particular religions or the beliefs or practices of their adherents, or of any other belief system or the beliefs or practices of its adherents, or proselytising or urging adherents of a different religion or belief system to cease practising their religion or belief system." That would seem to me to allow people to express any opinion they wish on religion.
Lesta Legend Posted 28 December 2013 Posted 28 December 2013 Surely they're inciting religious hatred? Which is illegal as far as I'm aware. How is that happening?People have a right in this country to discuss other religions. BR is just as likely to have a go at any religion, bothe COE and the Catholic church have taken a hammering on there recently. In the main BR posters despise all faiths. Indeed religion is becoming less relevant to the vast majority of people in society nowadays and as such it'll get criticised even more due to its complete illogical teachings that go against fact and science! You can't be racist against something you can leave (apostasy) people need to learn the difference and not lazily tar people with the bigot racist brush. Everyone should be able to live, believe and express their life how they want - live and let live.
Buce Posted 28 December 2013 Posted 28 December 2013 Since when was criticising Islam racist? It's not, though I would take issue with the suggestion that descibing Muslims as 'filth' qualifies as criticism of Islam; that is clearly bigotry of the most offensive kind.

That would seem to me to allow people to express any opinion they wish on religion. Fair enough then, I'm no expert. I guess then they've got every right to post it, so I'll just stick to arguing that the people posting that are disgusting human beings and that whoever runs that forum really shouldn't be happy to give them a platform.
fleckneymike Posted 28 December 2013 Posted 28 December 2013 I'm not saying shut down Bentleys Roof (even though I disagree with 95% of what's posted on there), but those intolerant posts should be deleted and the people who posted them banned. And according to you similar abuse has been leveled at most religions, same applies to those posts and posters. Same applies on here although in my experience few share such extreme views on Foxes Talk. Oh the irony
Soup Posted 28 December 2013 Posted 28 December 2013 Can this be moved to general chat please? Let's move it to the UFO,Bigfoot,Loch Ness Monster and tooth fairy thread.
Mark_w Posted 28 December 2013 Posted 28 December 2013 Oh the irony Perhaps intolerant wasn't the best word to use. My point is, my problem with those posters is actually based on their disgusting views. Where as their problem with every single Muslim in the world clearly isn't.
Webbo Posted 28 December 2013 Posted 28 December 2013 Censorship is a funny thing. I've recently had to delete a few posts from some clown off Stormfront, I believe he's been banned now. His views really were beyond the pale but I was tempted to leave them up so others could argue against them. In the end I decided what he was posting was against the forum rules. Sometimes it's hard to know what to do for the best.
Strokes Posted 28 December 2013 Posted 28 December 2013 It's not, though I would take issue with the suggestion that descibing Muslims as 'filth' qualifies as criticism of Islam; that is clearly bigotry of the most offensive kind.Everyone is a bigot.
Finnaldo Posted 28 December 2013 Posted 28 December 2013 Let's move it to the UFO,Bigfoot,Loch Ness Monster and tooth fairy thread. Merge it with the Nicky Maynard thread.
Buce Posted 28 December 2013 Posted 28 December 2013 Everyone is a bigot. Really? What brings you to that conclusion?
Strokes Posted 28 December 2013 Posted 28 December 2013 Really? What brings you to that conclusion? It's a fact, to hate bigots is kinda bigotry.
Buce Posted 28 December 2013 Posted 28 December 2013 It's a fact, to hate bigots is kinda bigotry. Merely claiming something to be a fact, doesn't make it so; it requires some supporting evidence. Do you have any? Who claimed hatred of bigots?
Strokes Posted 28 December 2013 Posted 28 December 2013 Merely claiming something to be a fact, doesn't make it so; it requires some supporting evidence. Do you have any? Who claimed hatred of bigots? I don't need evidence as I'm not trying to convince you, I'm just stating the truth. Feel free to disprove it, if you can.
Buce Posted 28 December 2013 Posted 28 December 2013 I don't need evidence as I'm not trying to convince you, I'm just stating the truth. Feel free to disprove it, if you can. No, what you are stating is an opinion, something which you believe to be true. That doesn't qualify as a fact.
Strokes Posted 28 December 2013 Posted 28 December 2013 No, what you are stating is an opinion, something which you believe to be true. That doesn't qualify as a fact. Something i know to be true
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 28 December 2013 Posted 28 December 2013 There is no way that the examples of bigotry given on this thread could ever be construed as merely being "critizising Islam" Calling the followers of a any religion "filth" is bigotry
