FoxDownSouth Posted 3 January 2014 Author Posted 3 January 2014 I always thought we are know for wit and banter tbf. For the OP to use Liverpool and Man city is really weak of him as we are not comparable as a club or from the social groups that the support is drawn from. It's fair enough what you after but you need to build something, As the mercury did on the MON years hence the balloons ect. Union FS has a good positive approach and may well be able to show the club what could be achieved, and hopefully singing first standing second is there agenda. Im not saying we will ever be a liverpool. But look at spurs. They won the FA cup from non league. Look at them now. It takes time to build the club and its following. But now its the beat time to re establish old traditions, and start new ones. The club is on the up. Take advantage of that by showing passion and pride in the club. Not just a half hearted song with no affiliation to the club.

FoxDownSouth Posted 3 January 2014 Author Posted 3 January 2014 The difference is blue moon and youll never walk alone are good songs. The reason it doesnt work for when youre smiling is because nobody knows the words, its just not the right song for it. IMO hey jude works well, everyone does join in and its no worse then the majority of other clubs our size. People expect a bit too much from our crowd sometimes. but not everybody does join in. Its lack luster and generic. You have missed the point completely. Its about club identity. You clubs in our league and bellow have so songs linked to there clubs. So in no way is it asking too much. I find it extremely difficult to believe that even leicester fans cannot grasp a 7 line song, in which many of the words are repeated.
FoxDownSouth Posted 3 January 2014 Author Posted 3 January 2014 Spurs yer right 120 years ago oh sorry it was only 110 I never said it happened over 3 seasons. It takes time. Not that much. You've taken that way out of proportion.

Kitchandro Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 LSF, the chanty bit! Do that! Do that! People have suggested this for years and I still maintain it would sound absolutely awful if sung by our fans.
Voll Blau Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 LSF, the chanty bit! Do that! Do that! Yes! The difference is blue moon and youll never walk alone are good songs. IMO hey jude works well, everyone does join in and its no worse then the majority of other clubs our size. People expect a bit too much from our crowd sometimes. There are less words to learn in WYS than YNWA, surely? Besides, I don't buy the "too many words" argument. Pretty sure most of our fans are literate to the point where they could at least read a Roger Red Hat book to some degree of competence.
Kitchandro Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 Hey Jude is an awful song, and it gets a half hearted outing and sets the tone for the rest of the match. The risk is WYS will get the same lack lustre response. Been to Bramhall lane a few times and they sing "You fill up my senses" with pride would love to get to that level. I quite like the music they use when showing the highlights, imposing but not dominating, then a quick random blast of Kasabian, can they not afford the rights to play the whole song, then post horn gallop, builds it up nicely then. Naaaa na na nananan naaaaaaaaaaaa, nananan naaaaaaaaaaaa Leicester Horrible. You may be right. But I'd rather us be lacklustre with our club anthem rather than some random song. Like I say, I think it needs a re-recording in a tune which would sound great if sung a long to. Maybe one of the verses could be sung by a group of fans?
Fox92 Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 It isn't a horrid chant imo... When we play away, and everyone sings it at the same pace it sounds brilliant. It's a bit of a shite song anyway It's alright. Not the worst song ever, not the best either.

Completely disagree, we are just singing poorly, hence my call for a re-recording to show the fans how slowly and in what tune it should be. Enough people know the words, but most can't be arsed when they're trying to rush it so they can keep up with some pleb who's too embarrassed to belt it out with a bit of pride, and instead rushes through it. You'll Never Walk Alone is actually gay as fvck unless it's sung by the fans. It's a terrible song. Marching on Together just a shit old football song which isn't even as good as Back Home, which gets laughed at these days. WYS is perfectly fine but it needs a boost. It needs to be encouraged by the club and it should be played before kick off.
Stadt Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 Recently Club foot(?) has been played pre-match but it gets cut-off after about 10 seconds for the announcer, it's the only decent song on the prematch playlist as well.

You're the one always banging on about tradition then you call Marching on Together, a fantastic traditional football song, rubbish. Get out of it, it's better than WYS which we attempt to sing.

But that's the point, genius, it is a traditional football song, making it shit everywhere but the football. This is why people's argument that 'WYS is a shit song' doesn't stack up. Marching On Together is total wank unless it's sung by Leeds fans (I don't even think they sing it that well apart from the first and last lines, but it's still has an effect). You'll Never Walk Alone is a shit old song that no one under 50 would like if it wasn't belted out by Liverpool fans in such a way. Sadly, it's not fashionable to be a Leicester fan in this modern age so the link between the older fans and the younger ones is so much weaker. That's mainly why our traditional old songs are being lost to time.

You'll Never Walk Alone is a memorable song and I suspect a fairly simple one to to remember and sing. the same could be said of the basic chorus of delilah at Stoke. These have become synonymous with these clubs in a way that WYS has not really become memorable in a sustainable way at our club. It is I suspect in some ways musically more difficult to grasp than other songs which may have an easier beat or rythym. Personally I would like to hear it played instead of Hey Jude which just has absolutely nothing to do with our history as far as I'm aware. Please tell me if I'm wrong here. Sadly I just don't think WYS is catchy enough or simple enough to catch on in a big way. I can't recall the last time I heard it being sung effectively at a home game.
ScouseFox Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 Does the sound for the post horn gallop player actually stay on without crackling or breaking half way through him playing these days? I haven't been regularly since 11/12 and it was pathetic that he'd be there playing it (usually very well) only for the speakers to break and it just looked stupid. I like that man and his horn though, pretty unique.
_Fatboyslow_ Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 How about "who wants to be a millionaire " that should get a few fans going Or walk on the bright side of life

Webbo Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 The problem with the recorded versions of WYS is that these singers want to put their own interpretation on it. Why can't the club get someone to record a version the same as the fans sing it? The same tempo with all the la la la las thrown in.
Lobsterboyuk Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 Sacrilege to suggest dropping the post horn gallop, hope thats a minority view! I don't mind Hey Jude and join in but we should be singing When You're Smiling. Louis Armstrong gets my vote, with the instrumental bits edited out (quality musicianship but too much of it for the pre match song) but can we keep the scat though - would love some scat action down at the KP en masse!
lcfcdave15 Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 I love the Post Horn Gallop, long may it be a feature of the match day! I agree that Hey Jude is irrelevant to the club and a little bit cringeworthy too, I'm a Beatles fan but I don't sing along to it anymore at the games for those reasons. Plus, if they have to play a Beatles song they could pick something much better - but it would still be irrelevant! LSF is a good shout, at least the band are from Leicester!
Leicesterpool Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 When You Smiling is such a dirge, we need something more uplifting.
Unabomber Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 When You Smiling is such a dirge, we need something more uplifting. When you're happy and you know it clap your hands?

I dont think we'd ever reach kick off with that version Let's be cool about this... I think, without the jazzed up use of words, that pace is ideal to get belted out at the KP. And for whoever said it's not uplifting enough, since when has You'll Never Walk Alone been a massively uplifting song? I reckon WYS has great potential just not enough people know or are bothered about it. We all cry out for unique songs yet WYS is shot down as "shit" and " not uplifting enough". For god sake people, you can't pick and choose like that!
