do we want to be in the Prem?

Personally I might enjoy being in the Premier League less than the Championship.

I dislike the hype, the big name players, the big name clubs with fake fans, the distorting effect of money, the sheer bias of the media, Sky Sports and many, many other things.

But...the club has to be there.  We will have big bucks coming into the club, we will get to see how ambitious our owners really are and even if we do get relegated, we will have financial security for a while due to parachute payments.

And, just possibly, we will be competitive, like we were in the O'Neill years, and we might win a trophy or two.

Then I'll enjoy it !!

yes but just think, we wont be biased against us by Don Goodman and Peter fvcking Beagrie. the sky punditry team might actually enjoy us in the prem and find us "a breath of fresh air"

When we were there between 1996-2002 we had Wimbledon twice in a row at home (one Monday night), Watford on a Monday evening, Middlesbrough on a Monday night all live on Sky.

Fair point, but I think their obsession with the Big Four has become more entrenched these days.

If you look at the first three months of this season, a pattern definitely emerges as to which games Sky and BT Sport are interested in showing.

At this point I will reveal the right answer

We want to see our team win and if we win we will succeed and if we succeed we will do well in the Prem

the reason I posed the question was that I suspect many Leicester fans have a bit of a small club mentality and with the best will in the world I wish they would be more confident.

I have watched the foxes since 1973 and the best times are definitely in the top flight. Obviously its not great if you finish bottom but most of the time we don't and when we have finished in the top 10 and even won cups and got into Europe its wonderful; even better than beating Derby to go 7 poinmts clear

Dr Fox says be confident fellow foxes -we have wealthy backers, a top10 fan base, a good stadium and a young and ambitious team

Remember the Middlesboro cup win at Hillsboro?  I was at that game but has often happens, the TV highlights and especially the commentary which goes with them has been overwritten over my actual memory of being there.

Now all I can think of, when Leicester were celebrating their first silverware for a long, long time, is some prat going on about 'little Leicester' beating the mighty Middlesboro!!

We have no choice.

Our finances are set up for that sole purpose, and without the increased revenue stream that even a single season generates we are not viable as a club financially.

That aside don't you think this group of players deserves a crack at it anyway?

And if they play like they did against Derby half of the Premier Leagues sides would struggle to compete.

Agree with every bit of that, Mack. Would love the adventure - and aspiring to mid-table consolidation and the odd win against the big boys - but would mainly love it if a lot of the current squad/management team were involved.

IF we went up, I hope that the inevitable strengthening of the team/squad would be selective - a handful of quality players in the positions where they'd be needed. I'd love to see a decent number of the current team walk out for a Premier League season, with a few key additions (CB, LB, DCM, Striker?) plus a few youngsters for squad development.

Given NP's inclinations and the FFP regulations, that might well be what would happen. What I'd hate to see is a truckload of new players arriving for the Premier League wages or NP getting the push for a higher-profile manager. If particular players or the manager prove to be conclusively out of their depth, that's one thing, but I'd like a lot of them to get a chance....

But that's all nice dreams. For now, it would only take 2 defeats for us to be out of the automatic promotion places again - and I've a feeling that the players have already heard that message - and have listened, it seems.

the mighty middlesboro' who got relegated? i agree, we were just "little Leicester" back then and probably will be again if we make it this time around BUT i think teams and pundits will show us a lot more respect in the premier league,

however, every single game we have on sky the opposition get a rim job.

Randolph Austin for Leeds

Kieran "assist MACHINE" Trippier for Burnleh

the whole QPR squad and 'Arry

Will Hughes and Schteve

just four examples from this season. happened pretty much each game last term too

I agree with this. The Championship is full of real fans in a genuinely competitive league. I don't go to matches to watch Man Utd or Liverpool, but to support Leicester City.

Do I want to get promoted? Yes of course I do, but it would be a bit like being promoted into a job I hate- but get 10 times as much money and a company car!

Here's a question then.... How much money would the owners commit in the premier?

I could see it being quite substantial. The whole point of them buying the club is to further promote King Power and that's through the mammoth coverage that the Premier League gets abroad (especially Asia). If you look at Cardiff and the amount of sponsorship they have that's specific solely to South-East Asia, some of it for businesses that don't even trade in this country. I could easily see them grasping the opportunity and spending a fair amount, whether that would fit with NP's plans is another matter.

It wouldn't be out of the realms of possibility for them to suddenly find a few more investors in the club were we to go up also.

There is already Chinese involvement in the board in the shape of Shilai Liu.

Don't be too shocked to see more money from Beijing coming over once Premier League exposure becomes greater.

That was my thinking. A few more Polo buddies rocking up with their cheque books.  lol

All this premier league talk and we have not noticed the most important football result of the night, Hyde have won their first game of the season in the conference, away as well, what a great journey home they will have tonight!

Posted

Really? Is this in doubt?

You should want to try your best at the highest level surely.

Then just occasionally you have a spell that makes it all worth while.

The early 60's under Matt Giles, the Bloomfield era and the O'Neil era. They were three periods in the last 50 years where we held our own in the top flight. I would love a couple more spells like that in my lifetime.

Sorry to go off topic *slightly*, but is your username the sequel to 2 girls 1 cup?

Posted

Not quite, that's basically my Leicester record 6 promotions 6 relegations 2 cup wins, if I'd been a Cov fan I'd be called 1 cup 2 downs and f#ck all else!

Haha I had assumed that was the reasoning behind it. I'm assuming mine will be the same, I was born in 87. Hopefully you can change it soon

I can see the Thais throwing serious bunce into staying in the Premier League if we're promoted.

I think they'd love to expand their business all over Asia and, eventually, into Europe. The gigantic exposure that an established Premier League club playing in a stadium named after that company with shirts bearing the name of the company would be a huge boost to those plans.

I don't for a minute think Pearson would be opposed to that either. I could see him picking up a Michu or two in the transfer market along with a few familiar names to give us a good mix of players.

Posted

No, I enjoy having proper badges and kits on FM.

In all seriousness, yes - who in their right mind wouldn't want their club to be as good as possible and reach as high as possible?

Posted

Nah **** this shit apart from goodison park I need l2 football to get some new grounds in!!!!!

Seriously yes I want us to get a crack at the top flight again.

but the commercialship has its downsides.

Agree with this, think Pearson will be good in the Prem with some money. Can't see him buying expensive over the hill players for the sake of buying expensive players, he will still look for his style of player and will have the budget to do that.

Let's be honest, the best part of getting to the Premiership is the promotion season itself. Winning a lot and the glory of going up.

It'd be great for the younger fans like me to have a chance to go to Anfield, Old Trafford etc but lets face it, we'd get beaten a lot, probably sack Pearson and go down anyway.

Posted

As a regular terrace supporter before I moved away from the area it was always a more enjoyable day out winning regularly in the second tier than losing in the first - and I recall the crowd figures reflected that.  But surely any sports fan has to be an optimist and you always want promotion!!

Posted

I'd love to go up with Pearson as manager. He'd maintain a squad with a good personality and one that I can associate with easily. I think I'd find it hard to support the club if I were QPR fan a year ago, people like Bosingwa would just anger me and I'd end up hating our own players.

You start questioning whether you're really a fan at that point.
